Free Dining Watch 2009 - Dates Released!! Update post 1

Thanks Goofy22.

I just got the credit card bill today from our Feb trip.....probably not the best time to be thinking of another trip!!

But I miss WDW in August, and I hated paying for food!

Haha! I hear you on that! I'm under 6 months now! I can't wait! :cool1:

Thanks disneynuts! Sorry I wasn't very clear..

is the free dining really that late? (August 23rd?) I figured they might do it a little earlier.. (considering my last day at WDW is the 23rd.. :rolleyes1 )

Not sure "announced" means the same thing as open for booking. What they usually do is announce the date upon which the free dining promotion will be open for booking. For example, in March there is usually an announcement made by WDW that free dining will be available for booking, say, on April 1 for Disney Visa holders and April 4 for everyone else.

If you book a package reservation (with tickets) you would be able to change it to a free dining package as long as free dining packages are still available at your resort on your dates. No other discounts on the room would be applicable if you choose free dining. If you book a room only reservation, it will have to be cancelled and rebooked as a package. If you know you want free dining it would probably be best to book a package if you want to book a room ahead of time.

If, at the time you call, free dining promotion rooms are sold out at the resort you want for the dates you want, you'll probably have to switch resorts or dates to get the dining.

IT IS 1SNACK. 1 COUNTER SERVICE, 1 TABLE SERVICE PER PERSON PER DAY.

It is 1 snack, 1 CS and 1 TS per night of your resort stay, not per day. This distinction is important as most guests are at WDW more days than they are nights.

It may start Aug 16 since that is when the pin code I got is valid. 8/16-10/1. And also because the 4/3 deal ends on the 15th.

Yes! it is definitely the 23rd of August for bounceback free dining! Who know's what will happen when it's released to the general public ! But in the past the window has been a lil shorter than the bounceback. There was a pincode that was emailed to ppl that offered Free Dining on the 16th August . But it is my understanding that will only be offered for those early dates to those that recieved the pincodes. So it's basically a wait n see game.:thumbsup2

I can't sleep I'm so excited. The thought of them releasing Free dining a month early OMG the waiting is killing me.

We have so much to celebrate this year. A new house, Our DD turning 9, and the birth of our beautiful surprise little girl.

Come on Free Dining. I'm going to surprise my family w/ a hotel upgrade if it comes out!

Question on how you find out: people are talking about waking up at 6am to call.. do you know a day ahead of time when free dining is (ie, the website says on Saturday that free dining reservations will start Sunday), or is it that when you wake up in the morning the website is updated and you have t-minus 1 hour to call in to get your free dining?

Also, this is probably pretty obvious, but you can schedule your entire package when you call in, right? You don't have to add free dining onto an already existing package?

If this has been asked before, I apologize. :flower3:

Take a deep breath everyone. LOL
Usually the early Disney Visa code comes out on the internet somewhere, either Mousesavers or here long before it is publically announced.
(IF I get something from Disney Visa, I usually get it after I've already called in and booked the sale, so don't rely on that!), but usually the day before the sale.
I remember double checking it that morning, but having it in hand.

When that comes out, you usually see info that a general public sale will break a few days later. That code is generally not available till that morning, and we're usually on here, waiting for someone to find it. We all found it right around 7 am, when we were already on hold. The CMs will also have it available, as it is a general public code, and unless you get a really bad CM, they will set you up.
The website will post it that day.

If you are picky about what resort or room type you want, call that morning.
If not, it's not as big a deal. They will have rooms available for weeks.
They just might not be your first choice. Have a back-up.

I had to book 3 rooms with my Dis Visa, and then 2 with the general sale.
By the time I got through the day of the general sale, there was one standard room available at Pop.
They couldn't find a second room of any kind, but then the computer crashed, and when it came back up, there was a preferred, so I snagged it.
I called back a few weeks later and there was a standard available, so I switched.
It is not true that when they run out of rooms for the sale, they are done.
Sometimes they open up new blocks of rooms for the sale, but later on, and also there are people who cancel.
So if you don't get your first choice, call back.

So does anyone know, if you book a stay at the Pop now for example and then later when the Free DP comes out if Pop is booked up the week you already have a ressie for can you add the free DDP on or will you be out of luck? I hope that makes sense, I guess I'm wondering would it be a whole new reservation or can you just apply it to the existing reservation?

IF they do not have any more rooms of the type you booked available for the sale, you will have to change room type OR hotel. Have a back-up choice.

Happy Planning everyone! :wizard:

I agree with Disneymom5. Just because you hold a current ressie at a particular resort, it no way guarantees that your resort will be available for that promotion. Often those holding reservations at Pop have had to switch to one of the A/S to get the free dining promotion. The resort you want HAS to have current opennings in order to get the promotion there and at the same room category. Have a backup plan and be flexible.

TDC Nala,
Let me see if I am getting this right. Sometime in March Disney will announce when the Free Dining will open up for such and such dates. So everyone will know what morning they need to be up at early to get the Free Dining. Did that make sense???

We've have known in advance about the first day of the free dining sale at least the last two years.

In 2007, when I convinced my best friend to go to Disney with me, we didn't book until sometime in JUNE.. we booked a standard room at POP. about a month later, she got an email offering a free upgrade to SS or OKW. We went with SS. So we got a free upgrade from a value resort to a DVC resort and free dining, boy were we spoiled rotten for that trip.

So I wouldn't worry about them running out of rooms. As long as you are flexable on resorts, I think you should be ok staying within the same resort category you want, eg.. Value, Moderate, Deluxe.

I too am holding my breath. Not because I think they will let us book it earlier, but just to know that it WILL be offered and the exact dates. Then we can go ahead and book , even if we have to change resorts, I at least know I'm going!!!

:dance3:

:confused3
I called the other day and they said that they are no longer able to check PIN offers.

We have had free dining the last three years. Bounceback the last two. Last fall we decided to visit another time of year but now we are back to September. We have been anxiously awaiting the announcement of free dining this spring. Then I read about the free dining PINS. So, I called last weekend-just for the heck of it. I was informed by the CM who with some info. such as telephone # was able to tell me that I did have a PIN assigned to my name (but not free dining). They had the wrong e-mail address-we have stayed there 3 years in a row and had had the same e-mail all along. Do not assume that they have your correct e-mail address!! So the CM said the PIN was stay 5 nights & buy 6 day park tickets and get $500 cash back. CM said that she could not tell me the PIN # but I would have no problems if I called back to book. I didn't get the dates since this is not what we had planned on. I called back after dicussing w/ hubby to get dates. This time another CM said that she could not look up the info w/o the PIN# I explained that the CM told me she couldn't tell me the number but explained the deal she told me about. CM really didn't want to look the info for me. I however very politely insisted. Once she got the fact that I wasn't going to simply accept this she did look up info. Well, my e-Mail was still incorrect and she changed again. Then she checked PINs for my name & said there was one for 5 nights 6 days but no $500 back. Then she said that my hubby had a 40% off code. :confused3 :scared: So I booked our 7 days at animal kingdom at that moment because I was sure if I called back I'd get another story. I then decided that a 40% off code would be a much better deal at a more expensive resort and called and changed to Beach Club & Poly. The discount at 40% off adds up to more than the free dining discount for our family of four.

Oh I hope you are right, I already have booked 8/16-8/23. My DD's B-day is 8/17 would love to be able to give her the birthday of her dreams!!! Free DP would just send our trip over the top!!!!

We're thinking of going the last week of September. Just curiuos how this has worked in the past. If we stay a few days into October, but the promotion was only until the end of September, would it still apply? I guess my question is, is it based on the day you check in, or they days you are there?

Thanks!

In the past, if your arrival date is during the promotion, the free dining will continue for your entire length of stay, up to 14 nights.

Now, if the promotion starts during your stay, you would have to check out and start a new reservation on the first day of the promotion in order to get the free dining for the remainder of your stay.

You'll be staying there almost the same days I will! :)
We called today and asked about "any upcoming promotions"
The CM told us (without us asking) that we didn't have any PINs attached to our name, and when my DM said that we'd gotten some in the past and hadn't used them, he was like "yeah, I can see that" which creeped her out a bit. :rotfl:

So... hopefully, if we call back, maybe there will be one? Or free dining will come out for the dates we want!
That, or I turn down the possible summer job I will know about on Monday, for free dining. It's worth it, right?

So, cool. Have you noticed that the Airlines fees are dropping for the same time?
