Free Dining Value guests hoping for SSR-OKW again

So? If they are upgraded, they will be in rooms that are controlled by CRO, they wouldn't be available to DVCers anyway.

I understand about the CRO vs. Points thing - but, I think it was a slap in the face last year to the DVC owners that were paying tens of thousand of dollars to stay in studios at SSR and OKW (and not getting free dining) - free dining, value guests in the one-bedrooms.

IMHO - they ought to have upgraded DVC owners that booked studios to the empty CRO one-bedrooms and put upgraded value guests in studios. I think a good policy would be that DVC owners get upgraded first if CRO is going to use the villas as upgrade properties for overbooked values.

If I could had gotten upgraded to a DVC one-bedroom villa when we stayed at the POP, I'd probably have never bought into DVC. Again, JMHO, but I think it's a big marketing mistake to have promotions that offer DVC villas at value hotel rates. We all know that anyone that runs the numbers will realize they need to be staying at a moderate or deluxe to have DVC begin to make financial sense - so I think they need to protect the deluxe categorization of DVC accommodations.

DVC is not doing the upgrades, CRO controls those upgrades. DVC can not upgrade to rooms it does not control.

I'm sure DVC is hoping to sell new memberships with the upgrades. Would you be more likely to buy DVC if you were put in a studio or if you were put in a 1 bedroom?

Wow, I had no idea! What about the "bounce back" thing? Does that mean they can get these accomodations again next year?

No, they are hoping CRO overbooks POP for FD again this year and starts moving people to SSR-OKW. I think someone said it was something with a computer glitch(overbooking part).

Bounce back is simply an incentive given to encourage booking your next trip while enjoying a current stay at WDW.

The incentive varies seasonally, and has ranged from a room discount to free dining.

The room upgrades themselves are not a bounceback incentive.

I know that's the way the system is set up, but, I'm just sayin' - it should not be too hard to figure out some way to make it possible for the two to communicate.

If they do upgrade again this year it will be interesting to see if anyone who was upgraded last year is upgraded again this year. If you book Pop and get an SSR one bedroom year after year then there is absolutely no reason for those upgraded to buy DVC at all.

If I thought I could take a chance and get a one-bedroom with free dining for 100 bucks a night - there is no way on earth I'd plunk down 16,000 plus a commitment of 50 years of paying more annual fees every single year than my entire week of free dining vacations cost just to get the same room and no free dining.

If DVC did the upgades, it may be illegal, as it would throw the number of points avaiable for a resort out of balance, basically selling more points than there is availability.

You see, the rooms CRO uses, for the most part, ARE already booked on points by other members who have traded out of the DVC system. Rooms can not be booked twice on points for the same time period.

However, with the AKV incentive giving new members current year SSR points to use until they can use their AKV points, there might not be as much vacancy at SSR this year.

I thought the upgrades were due to some sort of overbooking at Pop Century last year. Are they anticipating another overbooking or is this just wishful thinking?

I haven't the slightest idea why DVC members think they should get free dining. WDW doesn't have to offer us incentives to get us to book rooms.

DVC is a similiar lifetime cost to a value stay, and we have to pay for tickets, ...well we do not have to visit WDW parks. That's why they should give us free dining, so we keep their park traffic / consessions / gifts.. up.

OK so we get a really upgraded room with DVC, and AP discount...

Maybe I'll book Pop and see;)
Seriously... If I was them, I'd be wishing they'd comp me to a deluxe DVC 1BR
for the cost of a value as well.:cool2:

So by Disney doing something nice for one group, that is a "slap in the face" to other folks? I will never, ever understand this mentality.

If a CM decided to give a free balloon to a little girl, is that a "slap in the face" to everyone else who paid for their balloon?

I think if the first little girl's parents paid 100 bucks to join the "Mickey Balloon Club Family" and got a little red balloon - and then a CM walked up the kid next to her and gave her a free huge Princess balloon, and then also gave her a tiara and also a private meet and greet with Cinderalla - it would be a slap in the face. And, I think, bad PR for the "Mickey's Balloon Club".

It's MARKETING! It's not a "slap in the face" and it's not a personal attack.

Disney hopes that those folks will go "WOW" and race to the sale office to buy.

And folks are complaining because it "might" happen? LOL!

(And just think of the 400 pages of "Disney doesn't love us" if they do it... should be great entertainment!)

Don't think for a second that Disney's doing any of these upgrades or free dining to be "nice" to people. As PP said, it's marketing....it's business. But I still believe DVC members have given Disney billions in revenue as a group - we're a loyal bunch of Disney customers that will pump money into Disney for years and years to come so I can see the "slap in the face mentality" as relevent.
