free dining plan question

a couple of questions:
1 if we rent DVC points and stay for a week that way instead of booking thru the an agent, can we get the free dining option added to "our" name instead of the actual owner of the DVC points name?

2. If you book for the free dining peroid is it automatically assumed that you want the free dining option or do you have to request this at booking or check-in?

Free dining isn't offered to DVC guests staying on points (their own, exchanged, or rented). It's only offered as part of a rack-rate resort stay package with MYW tickets.

As a corollary to the above, you do have to ask for it, in a sense, by taking the specific package deal in lieu of any other discounts or offers.

No you cannot get free dining through DVC and yes if you book a package through WDTC you must ask for free dining. Some people use other discount codes or AP rates so Disney doesnt assume you want anything

Also if you decide to book without points they offer does sell out so trying to get the resort you want you best bet is to book early.

If you book a DVC reservation using DVC points (your own or someone else's) you are not eligible for free dining. Free dining is available only with a full price room/tickets package booked through WDTC. You can, however, purchase any of the 3 dining plans with the DVC reservation.

If you are renting points, you must do everything through the DVC member. DVC Member Services will not even speak to you if you are not a DVC member. If you want to purchase the dining plan, you must have the member add it to the reservation, and you will pay for it when you check in. The reservation is in your name as a guest of the DVC member.
