So it says you can get free dining when you book a reg. price ticket with the hotel. My question is if I only book a hotel for three nights and do the park tickets for the same do I still get the free dining deal? I thought I might have heard there is a min. stay. Does anyone know this answer?

I only have a weekend to go as my wife and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary.

The minimum stay is three nights so you would be fine.

Wow that is the quickest response ever. Thanks.
Now the question is do I do it? We were thinking of going to Oregon as she has never been but it would be cold there and we have never been to DW during Christmas time. Oh my dilemmas!!!!

Are you sure its 3 days? I just went to the website and I saw the little box of specials saying five night/six day?

It is 3 nights. Disney always lists a "suggested" length of stay that it hopes you will book, but that is not a minimum.

You only need a 2-day ticket in your package to qualify for free dining, by the way.

So what do you all think?
We are HUGE Disney fans but do I need to get a break away from it for our anniversary? This is a tough one.

what dates and resort categories are you looking at? I can tell you there is limited availability/if any for a lot of the resorts for December, b/c I was on the phone over an hour yesterday trying to change my dates around my DH's work schedule.

The only deluxe avail is Wilderness Lodge. We always stay at Riverside when we go with the kids and that is in our price range. Is it worth $400 extra to stay at WL? It would be nice to stay at GF if I was going to stay at a deluxe. Being on the monorail would be ideal.

I just can't get a feel if WDW is the right thing to do. I would like to take her to an ocean where we can relax w/o the kids. Maybe WDW would make us think to much of the kids? WDW was our first vacation together. We still have great memories of riding the rides together and now I thought maybe with the dining plan we could enjoy Le Cellier and other restaurants we never got to try. Has anyone else done WDW for an Anniversary???? Did they regret it?

You could always try a 3 night Disney cruise...that way you get Disney AND the beach. Just a thought.

December in Disney is beautiful. There are romantic twinkling Christmas lights everywhere. The pics of WL at Christmastime are beautiful...thus, that is where we are staying for our trip.

We have celebrated our anniversary at WDW on 2 occassions, but since ours falls in April and that usually means Easter pricing, we generally visit in Jan/Feb/Mar or Sep/Oct. Our 8th anniversary was actually our 2nd trip (2000) and we LOVED it! Seeing Wishes from California Grill was so romantic and we will never forget the moment. We were not at WL on that visit, but we have stayed there since, so allow me to give you my impression:

Wilderness Lodge is probably the best THEMED resort at WDW. It is a very secluded feel being surrounded by mature trees. There is a quietness accented by the sound of birds and crickets (not sure if they are real or part of the WDW illusion, but it is NICE). A stay at WL truly feels as if you are in the Northwest, and I have lived in Washington, Northern California and visited Oregon. :thumbsup2

They also feature one of the finest Signature dining places (and one of THE most romantic) Aritist Point. Their Whispering Canyon is lively with great food for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

And in December you will be absolutely stunned at how lovely the decorations are, especially the HUGE tree in the lobby. :santa:

No, they are not on the monorail, but it is easily accessable by taking the boat over to Contemporary or Magic Kingdom! :sail:

From there you can catch the monorail to Epcot, or catch buses to other resorts off the monorail should you wish to do so (AKL to see the savanah animals or have dinner at Jiko?) :simba:

You can also do a monorail tour of Grand Floridian (maybe book her a nice massage here?) and the Polynesian (Spirit of Aloha dinner show or the always wonderful Ohana?).

The boats availalbe also take you to Ft. Wilderness - perhaps to catch a romantic evening carriage ride?

And while at Contemporary, perhaps another special dinner @ California Grill with Wishes viewing? :welcome:

Or a fun breakfast at Chef Mickey's? :earboy2:

And don't forget the WAVE - amazing place features as much local produce, fish as possible and generally easy to get an ADR! Wonderfully relaxing decor' that features what my grand daughter called the 'blue room' just inside the entry.

The buses to AKL and HS are available frequently directly from this resort and they are seldom crowded. :dance3:

I cannot imagine a more romantic place for an anniversary, especially considering your history with WDW. GF is nice, but DH and I find it is way out of our comfort zone - we are midwesterners as well (live down here in Wichita). We have stayed at Poly and enjoyed it for many reasons, but for the price and amenities, WL would be my HIGHEST recommendation for you. :goodvibes

:tinker: One other thing you might consider - pay the difference and upgrade to Deluxe dining. You will get 3TS per day (can use for QS as well, but WHY when you don't have the kids along?) and it includes an appetizer as well!

DH and I like to do a 1TS for an early lunch, then do Signature dining in the evening. With 2 snacks allowed per day, this is plenty of food for us! In fact, for the last 3 nights of our September trip we are staying at BLT and adding the DxDP. We plan CG, Citricos, AP, Chef Mickey's, Coral Reef and WCC! That is 6 nice meals over 3 days and a total of12 snacks to fill in any gaps (morning danish from Main Street Bakery @ MK, fresh fruit & water @AK, pastry from Norway @ EP and Starring Rolls @ DS - you get the picture.) It will only cost you around $30 a day extra, but that is a BIG bang for your buck!

Sorry for such a long post, but I wanted to do my best to assist your decision. Wherever you end up going, you will be with your best friend and life-mate, so it will be a great trip!

Just read part of your joint DL trip report. DH and I visite DL Feb/Mar this year - 1st time as adults for each of us and we are in our 60's now. Took my DD 27, her daughter our DGD 4.5 and another daughter's son DGS 12. Spent 4 nights at Wyndham Oceanside (ocean front 2 bedroom suite right on the Oceanside pier - wonderful!) so the kids could see & spend time at/in the ocean. Then stayed 3 nights at HoJo by DL in their kid suite (adjoining rooms, 1 w/bunk beds & loveseat pull-out bed, 1 w/king and small fridge, microwave) that is easily walkable to the parks.

I have to say I truly enjoyed DL, especially their PoC - wow, what a difference from the WDW version. Met so many characters and DGD was delighted to run into Capt. Hook on an abandoned path. He stopped and posed with her, shared several hugs and even signed an autograph (hard to do with 1 hand, ya know?)

Enjoyed the rides at CA, but very disappointed in CM overall. Found out later that they are NOT Disney trained which explained a lot.

Your report was absorbing and the pictures AMAZING! Thanks for sharing. I am the photographer in our family, thus seldom in any pictures. This September trip to WDW we are trying Photopass for the first time so we can get shots TOGETHER. We will also keep a slower pace and 'smell the roses' while I do some stills. It's nice not to have to keep a 'let's get to the next ride NOW' sort of schedule.

Anyway, from the pictures of the Grand Californian, I guarantee you will like the WL - not as sophisticated, but more homey in feel - a bit less refined if you will.

I also appreciate the attitude of your family as celebrating LIFE is our mission as well. We are blessed not to have had any personal health issues other than the aches/pains that come with aging. :confused3

Our celebration comes from having found each other in our 40's after each had gone through divorce. Our union gave new life to both of us and we never take it for granted. I breathe because he breathes and his heart beats at my pace. I know that sounds mushy, but even after 18 years we have never had an argument nor harsh words and we wish that for everyone. :hippie:
