Hi. My family is thinking about going in September to take advantage of the free dining. Only problem is that my DF and I have APs for this year. Would we be able to take our tickets from the package and sell them? Is there any other way to work this? Thanks!

Why not take a room only discount (Back To School Savings)? I think you'll do far better.

You can not sell the package tickets. You also can't book different lengths for different people so if the rest of the party wants 6 day tickets you would be stuck with 6 days as well.

You say it is 4 other people plus you and DF. Does this mean you'll be in 2 rooms? You could book 4 people under one reservation with free dinning and then book the other 2 in a separate room with no ticket but room only then pay out of pocket for the dinning plan or just out of pocket for the food for those of you that have APs. There aren't many hotels that fit 6 people on property unless one is an infant so that may be your only option.

We were looking at a 2 bedroom villa so all of us would be on one reservation. I was told before that you could transfer tickets to whoever you want as long as you haven't used them. I asked that specifically before I bout the APs knowing we were looking at free dining in the fall. If that is not the case, then I feel like I was misled in order to get an AP sold.

You can't transfer package tickets to whoever you want as they are linked to the package. If you transfer the ticket then the dinning plan credits and access to the room go with it. I believe there is a way a few days prior to your package start date to have the tickets un-linked and then transferred but you will have a hard time finding someone willing to buy those tickets as you won't have a hard ticket to give them and they may not transfer.

Ok. Then would we be able to save the tickets and use them for a future visit when we are not AP holders anymore? When I had asked, I had been talking about unlinking and giving to a family member. If I am not able to do that, which they told me I could, then it seems like I just wasted a lot of money on APs.

Yes

You want to make sure have have the AP prioritized over the package tickets. Personally, to avoid all confusion I would use my AP to enter the parks each time, not my MB. Things can get wonky on admission usages

You can ask to have the tickets removed from your MDE and the entitlements placed on a hard, plastic ticket. That can then be linked to anyone in the future.

Or, after you check in to your resort, reassign the ticket entitlements to a place holder profile/family member (Ticket Saver), and save for a future trip or to reassign to anyone who is linked in your MDE account.

So anyone would include being able to sell them and put them in that person's name? Or anyone that is in my family and on my MDE?

Yes to both questions. Don't link the plastic ticket to your MDE if you think you may sell it.

Thank you so much for your help. Two more questions. Do these tickets ever expire? And could they be put toward an AP renewal?

Yes

I have an AP and three tickets in my name on my account that my MB pulls from. NO issues with the wrong thing (AP) being used to enter the parks. I would check at the desk when you check in to make sure your AP is listed first but I was told by multiple CM's that the AP had the highest priority on any MDE account and will always be accessed first.

You can save the tickets in your MDE account until you are ready to use. As I mentioned above I have three tickets in my name that are waiting to be used. I will use them on future trips.

I will say compare the price of getting room only with AP, using Dave's DVC Rental (https://www.dvcrequest.com/) and with free dining. I think you will come out better using Dave's then doing free dining. A good way to see is to use this website http://www.distripplanner.com/... it will calculate the cost of what the dinning plan will cost you and what it will cost if you just pay OOP. My experience I would price how you actually eat ... meaning if you usually get a appetizer add that but not dessert etc. and then figure the dining plan and see if free dining is cheaper. I will say that i've done free dining and a few times is been the cheaper route (esp. when staying moderate but staying deluxe it's never been the cheaper route) but its alot of food!

This past Feb. I had family that went and we had multiple rooms booked. We did the dining plan for them but I had a room only. At some places I paid OOP bc it was buffets but for lunch and at restaurants you ordered from we shared and I always had enough food.

One more thing to consider. Everyone in the room has to have the same thing as far as dining and tickets are concerned. The minimum ticket for FD is a 2-day with either PH or WP&M. If you only get the minimum in order to save yourselves some money, the others can add days to their tickets once you get there. However, you will only be able to do FP+ for two days.

Online it is stating it is a 5 night, 6 day package that is required.

The problem with my DF and I booking a separate room is that it may be cheaper for us, but then my other family members will have to pay more. We are planning on splitting the cost of the 2 bedroom villa. I need to run the numbers though and see if it works with where my family wants to stay. It looks like Boardwalk and Beach Club Villas are full so we may end up with separate rooms. Thank you everyone for your help. I appreciate it.

I have been told that too. But the one thing to know is they can get wonky. We had the system use the wrong ticket once, even though the priority was set right. Using your AP instead of the MB would eliminate the mix up, I think. Though with MDE I'm not sure anything is ever a sure thing.

It's not. It always says that and it's wrong. It's 2 day with WP or PH

It is a 5-night stay, but it is only a 2-day ticket that is required.

PS. That Dis Trip Planner website is AMAZING!!!! How did I never know about it? That saves me so much time than doing it by hand!
