Free Dining 2008 Watch

I have a room only reservation....should i switch to a package with dining now and then have them apply the code or does it NOT matter......

Sorry - I may have asked this before but I dont remember a definitive answer.

Thanks

And if not - they will NOT cancel my original reservation until the new one is done...right?

I'm such a dork...one more question!!! I have seen this mentioned but don't recall any definite answers. If we arrive 2 days before the FD promo ends, do they extend FD during our trip or is it cut off? I need an absolute from someone that has done it in the past or truly knows for sure! I want to book one set of dates and not move it if at all possible...puhleeese :lovestruc

Its still unkown until Monday if it can extend past the 20th. In years past yes. However this year Disney has changed thier policy on recent offers making offers end when posted (20th). Check back on Monday I'm sure someone will post. At the moment IMO I woulsd say no, but only Disney will say.
Good Luck!

as others have said... THERE IS NO ABSOLUTE ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION AT THIS TIME!

unfortunately, disney has changed their methodology of assessing room charges in '08 (from rate at check-in applies throughout stay to a nightly rate based on season/day of the week/etc) and that may or may not impact the free dining promotion... only time will tell... it is likely someone will post the answer come monday but until then, it is purely speculation!

fwiw, in past years, free dining followed your check-in date, so if you checked in near the end of the promo, you were eligible for your entire length of stay... again, that is NOT a given for this year...

hope that helps!

You could do the room only and purchase your tickets from somewhere else and hopefully save a few dollars and then only purchase a one day ticket with your free dining reservation.

You can't do that if you want DDP for both stays. DDP is not available on a room-only reservation (except perhaps for annual passholders.)

I am so confused by all these recent posts... I think I read on the previous page, that if you are booked before 9/20 you can still get the dining for the length of stay, is this correct?

This will not be known until people start booking. As usual, CMs are providing conflicting information.

You guys are right, that makes total sense (considering the changes within WDW). I'm still new to the true world of Disney. Last year was the first time we'd taken our ds and both trips were rather hastily planned and executed! I'm thinking I'll book today and hope for the best during the rumored times. Is AAA the best way to book for deals on the room? With or without DDP?

Thanks again to all of you pros! You're life savers!!!:worship:

Can you get 4 rooms with FD, all paid by the same person? Does it matter if a AAA agent does it for you?

I was told on one of these threads only 3 rooms per discount, but my AAA agent says it doesn't matter how many, and so did a CM at Disney, Is this right? Thanks!!:goodvibes

I can't wait till Monday. This will be our 4th year to use the free ddp offer. It is awesome!

So IF (a big IF I know) we are allowed to extend past the ending date, that would mean that you could stay sept 20-27 and get free dining for the whole trip, right?

Since this is close the same question I asked, I'll try. The big IF is right. In the past, yes. BUT WDW made many changes this year including daily rates and not by the arrival date so it's a good possibility that the Free DDP would end on the 20th. All alledgedly of course ;)

:rotfl2: True. I was totally thinking about my own plans. We wouldn't be doing the dining plan the first part of our trip. Actually, we aren't doing it at all.

Sorry if I messed up anyone's calculations.:flower3:

What have you read to make you think that? I've tried to go back through and its a looooot of pages. I think I may need glasses :sad2:

I don't remember which thread had that on it. But one poster asked your same question. I think they just got their approval, but no card in hand. Someone else posted that you have to have your card in hand because you need that special 3 digits on the back for confirmation of your card number.

Sorry.

I THINK the 3 room per discount is for PIN codes that are household specific.

I'm not sure why there would be a restriction to the number of rooms on a general open to the public code. :confused3 But then, I'm not Disney. :rotfl:

And I so need to get off these boards and get a real life. :rotfl2:

Hope I was able to able help some one today.

I called today and posed a hypothetical question:

"I am a Disney Visa Cardholder. If I have a reservation with a deposit paid using an American Express card but a promotion is released for Disney Visa members, can I have that promotion applied to the reservation?"

She said:

"Disney Visa promotions must have the deposit paid using a Disney Visa"

I asked:

"What if my deposit is already paid but I make an additional payment towards the trip using the Disney Visa?"

She said:

"That won't work".

She went on to say:

"It is sometimes possible to refund the original deposit to that credit card and then repay the deposit using the Disney Visa without having to cancel the reservation and rebook but it will depend on the specifics of the promotion and I don't know of any Disney Visa promotions right now."

I suspect that this will be more or less successful depending on the experience and the helpfulness of the agent you happen to get when you call. I have found that not all Disney CMs are created equal.

You usually don't need the 3 digit security code with phone in reservations because you are providing your name, address, and phone number as security information.

I brought up a similar scenario with a CM recently regarding my existing reservation. I booked with an AMEX but asked about taking advantage of a Disney Visa promotion. She told me to call back when/if the Dining promo is released and they can simply add dining onto my existing ressie, no need for me to put the money on my Disney Visa.

On the other hand...here is an email I received from Disney Rewards:

"Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry. Disney Rewards Visa Cardmember vacation package or hotel stay offers do require the use of your Disney Rewards Visa Card when booking the offer. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please let us know if we may be of any additional assistance.

Sincerely,

Disney Rewards Guest Service"

Okay, there's this thread and the "official thread--each with 1000ish posts!!!

So I'll post here, too---Has anyone answered the question yet of a minimum number of nights for the FD package? Has that info been leaked? What is it typically for wdw packages? (I usually book room-only.)

I've read in one of the threads that it's 3 nights

I've never used a dining plan, what do you all think the chances are that most of the restaurants will be booked for the length of the free dining if offered?
