Free Dining 2008 Watch

I called today and posed a hypothetical question:

"I am a Disney Visa Cardholder. If I have a reservation with a deposit paid using an American Express card but a promotion is released for Disney Visa members, can I have that promotion applied to the reservation?"

She said:

"Disney Visa promotions must have the deposit paid using a Disney Visa"

I asked:

"What if my deposit is already paid but I make an additional payment towards the trip using the Disney Visa?"

She said:

"That won't work".

She went on to say:

"It is sometimes possible to refund the original deposit to that credit card and then repay the deposit using the Disney Visa without having to cancel the reservation and rebook but it will depend on the specifics of the promotion and I don't know of any Disney Visa promotions right now."

I suspect that this will be more or less successful depending on the experience and the helpfulness of the agent you happen to get when you call. I have found that not all Disney CMs are created equal.

I did this last year. My original reservation was NOT on my Disney visa. On the day the free dining came out, I switched to Disney Visa. They took the $200 deposit but I asked if they could keep the original deposit and they kept it. This is the same as taking a payment from the visa. They never changed my reservation number and I changed resorts and everything. I'm so excited I can't stand it. I already told them that I would be in late on Monday for my Student Teaching just in case.

I've never used a dining plan, what do you all think the chances are that most of the restaurants will be booked for the length of the free dining if offered?

I went last year on the free ddp, and I was able to get last minute reservations for the Garden Grill and Liberty Tavern while as was in Disney.

I think if you are flexible dont eat at the peak hours you should be able to get most of your choices. I think certain places may be hard to get like Le Celliar but you never know people will be canceling and changing plans all next week so just keep trying.

I just chatted online with a CM from Disney and she said it would be extended hypothetically. I'm still taking that with a grain of salt though.

I cant believe I am the first to post this. My Mom is a travel agent. She recieved an email this morning from her Disney Rep. Here are the details for 2008 Free Dining. 08/24/08 - 09/20/08. Disney Visa holders can book on 04/07/08 with code AYG...General public opens up on 04/10/08...sorry she didnt give me hte code for this one, as I have been waiting for the Disney visa code.
Good Luck to all.

Might just be me but I find it weird that if your mom is a travel agent you would book with aaa agency as you noted on another post. I would think you would want to give your mom the business. Also since it is your mom I would think that some of the commission would be returned to you through her to offset any aaa discount
:confused3

Regardless thanks for the info

she may have been using AAA for the discount. While I love my mother personally, if she were selling something for $30 that I could get for $20 elsewhere, I'd buy it at the other place.

This phrase was part of a desktop theme that I recently got.... I ended up turning off the sounds cause they ended up being more annoying than standard XP sounds. Did you get it from something like that or is it something common that I am not aware of?

Another question - I too have already booked w/another cc and I have the Disney Visa. When I call back if/when offered do I call Visa or Disney - I booked directly w/disney initially.

Haley'sMom asked about applying FD to more than 3 rooms...I was told on more than one occasion by CMs that any discount (including FD) could only be applied to 3 rooms. We are having a Grand Gathering in September and have 4 rooms booked at POR with all deposits on my Disney Visa and I was told that when/if FD or any pin or discount was offered I could only apply that discount to 3 of the 4 rooms we have booked...therefore my SIL got a Disney Visa as well so that she could get FD for one of the rooms in our group....The information may be incorrect given the vast array of answers to other questions CMs seem to offer but I would want to be prepared if this is the case...Just my 2 cents worth:surfweb:

I just spoke to my TA and she believes that it is a 3 night stay.:wizard:

I have not read back but for what it's worth, I added FD to my reservations last year on the first day for Disney Visa cardholders and I did NOT make my reservation originally with my Disney Visa. The CM added the code and said it was OK that I didn't pay the deposit with Disney Visa but did tell me I needed to pay the balance with the Disney Visa. Maybe that policy has changed or maybe it just depends on the CM.

ok when it says dining ends on the 20th does that mean the 20th is the last night for free dining or does it mean the night of the 19th is the last night? is the 20th covered??? i check out on the 21st so if the 20th is covered then my whole stay is covered

You could book nights through the 20 including the 20th. You will be fine if these are the dates.

When this offer supposedly opens to Disney Visa cardholders on Monday, does the booking need to be made over the phone with CRO? Or can we book online as well? I don't think there is a field on the website for the code?

Well crap!!!!
My dates are 9/16-9/28. At least I get half free dining. But I'm guessing that would require two seperate reservations. First half on free dining and then the second on not.
I really wish it was going through to the 27!!

Fingers crossed that WDW's (rumored) new policy WILL allow check in up until the 20th AND FD for the length of the stay. I've seen people post both ways but so far no one with any certainty.

What do you think?

:goodvibes
