We are scheduled to fly out of dtw on Thursday am at 8. The storm will be over by then- but could this storm still impact our flight?

It's certainly possible but DTW does a pretty good job at keeping the runways clear. Last February, we had an early morning flight to Hawaii - near the end of that 15 inch snowstorm that we had. Since it was an all day storm, DTW was able to keep up with it. It also helped that we had an early flight - we were the third plane to de-ice (or should I say shovel off the plane!). We left about 30 minutes late but we got out. Of course, it also depends on if the plane makes it into DTW from wherever it's coming from.

Good luck!

If your flight is the first one (or second) after the airport re-opens, you will likely be cancelled. Very often the last flight or two coming in before the storm get cancelled too and there are no planes sitting there overnight raring to go after the storm.

I think your chances of getting out will be good. Right now, the forecast is for most of the snow to come overnight on Tuesday, with only an additional 2-4" on Wednesday. It's always possible that something could go wrong, but I would not panic just yet for a Thursday AM flight.

My wife is worried about driving to work at U Hospital over the next couple of days - looks like I'll be driving her there and picking her up - LOL!

Our flight is at 10am on Thursday. Our TA told us to get to DTW by 7:30am! Keeping our fingers crossed for you and us that we all get out on time!

As it happens, I will now be at the airport with you. My NYC meeting (with a Wednesday PM flight) was moved to DC (with a Thursday AM departure on the 1st flight).

I did see that something like 6400 flights were cancelled today and they are expecting 3400 more to be cancelled. Hope finding flights to replace those cancelled doesn't affect your flight. Good luck!

I think the biggest thing that might impact you will be all the previous canceled flights and where the equipment/pilots end up. With them having to scramble with so many flights canceled, there may still be residual issues come Thursday.

Get to the airport early and keep an eye on your flight. Gives yourself plenty of time in case the airport is buys with people trying to get out from previous canceled flights.
