Can anyone recommend any homestyle restaurants in Frankenmuth other than Zenders or Bavarian Inn. Also a good pub Looking to branch out for an upcoming trip:confused3:confused3

Wow, I'm surprised to see a question about Frankenmuth here! Are you from Mid Michigan? I've heard good things about Sullivan's Black Forest, I haven't been there myself but it would be an alternative to the chicken dinners. I'm not too far from Frankenmuth.

I have only eaten at the Bavarian Inn (eating there this week in fact) but since we will be staying in that area 2 days I could also use some suggestions.

I think the Frankenmuth Brewery is really good, they make their own beer there and the food is tasty.

I second the Frankenmuth Brewery! They have a really good beer cheese soup, and you can sit on the patio overlooking the river. Very relaxing on a summer night.

I live about an hour and a half from Frankenmuth :) I also agree that the Frankenmuth Brewery is great. Tiffany's is really good too. I like to eat on the patio overlooking main street.

You could venture into Birch Run and try Tony's I-75 restaurant with their larger than life portions. It was featured on Travel Channel's Sandwich Paradise. But beware, bring your appetite! Nobody leaves Tony's hungry!

Here's another vote for the Brewery in Frankenmuth, or Tony's over by Birch Run. Both are great. The portions at Tony's are huge, so you may want to share a meal or else be prepared for leftovers. :)

Tiffany's is a great place to go eat and it's on the main strip in Frankenmuth. I've also heard good things about the brewery.

I know I didn't start this thread but thank you all for your suggestions. We are leaving either today or tomorrow and spending 2 days in Frankenmuth, 3 in Midland, and 1 in Okemos as we are going to see family and attend Michigan State University's Green and White day since my son is looking at going to school there next fall.

We visit Frankenmuth regularly, my sister lives nearby. We've always enjoyed Davinci's (sp?). It is about 1 mile north of downtown Frankenmuth on the main street (Zehnders on your right and Bavarian Inn on your left) head up the hill.

We visit every year in the fall and every year we eat at Bavarian inn. We love it. But that being said the same family owns both restuarants. I don't remember the whole story, but it might be brothers or soemthing like that. But from what I hear it's the same food at both places. We have never at anywhere other than that except fast food for the trip home.

That was going to be my recommendation, too. We were sent there by the border guard on a Mom/3 daughters shopping weekend a couple of years ago. Our eyes bugged out! :earseek: Last time we went, Mom and I shared a BLT. Yummmmmmy!

Mmmmmmm.... Frankenmuth.... I was just there last month. We always try to sneak in a trip whenever we make it back "home" to Michigan. Although, I've never ventured anywhere for dinner other than the Bavarian Inn. The beer cheese soup at the Brewery has me interested though. We'll have to check that one out on our next stop.

As for Tony's, we did it once years ago and we didn't think it was all that great. Their big gimmick is huge portions, but the food is not outstanding or special in any way. We thought it was just a huge waste of food.

As for the Zehnders/Bavarian Inn ownership. I don't think they were related years ago. I know that Zehnders did eventually buy the Bavarian Inn. I have a book I found on Ebay a few years ago on the history of Frankenmuth. Its really really interesting. However, it was published in the late 60's, so they were still separate then. For some reason, we've always preferred BI over Z. I think its the theming. Or maybe its just because that's where we've ALWAYS gone.

Now I'm hungry for that chicken dinner. Thanks people!

That is the only place we eat at because we love the chicken livers. Delish

Not a huge fan of the Frankenmuth chicken dinner, but it could be because I've been there so many times. I don't have any suggestions to add for the OP, but it's rare to see a post dealing with Michigan.

I am definitely hungry now just thinking about breakfast at Tony's. Both the brewery & Tony's are great places to eat, but if you like different beers, the brewery is tops.

Brewery for dinner, walk around town for a couple of hours and then go to Tony's for desert, huge ice cream deserts to split and watch all the huge burgers etc that others order.

Just a heads up but I would NOT recommend T Dubs. It is a little Pizza place and my ex and oldest wanted to eat there tonight. I am still regretting listening to them as the place is small and they had a band in there. Small place, live and loud music, and the food was not all that great. My daughters and I left without eating much as they cannot handle loud noises so for the 3 of us it was such a waste.

Tomorrow we plan on trying the Brewery.
