Frankenmuth Restaurants

The Black Forest Brewery has made a comeback--highly recommend it! DH & I went back there this summer after shying away from it do to poor food/service & I have to say we loved it. We shared the beer sampler & had more than enough for the two of us & enjoyed the Prime Rib & salmon--yummy. The Frankenmuth Brewery is just starting to get back up & running after being up for sale for quite awhile--I would say to check out the menu on their website & see if there's anything you're interested in. They have a very limited menu. Absolutely love the atmosphere at Tiffany's--the view can't be beat when you're out on the deck but I also love the inside & it's old time look. Their food can be hit & miss--if you want something different try their pasta pizza, soo yummy!

I agree with the review of T Dubs--we ate inside one time & won't do it again, the food was nasty. I do recommend their pizza but only as a takeout. I disagree on the Tony's recommendations---we stopped in their last year just after their prices went up & they are way too expensive for the quality of food. The waitress just said, yes I understand, when we said we were walking out without ordering--must happen a lot.

For a different style of food check out the newly reopened Oscar & Joey's in Birch Run (formerly Dixie Dave's). They've redone their menu & have gone from all wildgame food to more of a tavern menu with a few of the more popular wildgame dishes still in the mix. My DS8 went nuts over the alligator gumbo--dh game him a sample & he ate half the bowl.

Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip!

We went to Frankenmuth earlier this month. We tried Sullivan's Black Forrest Place. It was okay and my husband loved his beer. I think we just got bummer late afternoon meals.

I'm moving to Michigan next week from CT, so I am loving this thread! DH has already said we should day trip to Frankenmuth. Tell me what else is there besides chicken dinners and the world's largest Christmas Shop? I'm a total Michigan rookie lol!

I don't mean to take us off topic, but I noticed someone mentioning a few day stopover in Midland as well as a stop in little Germany :). Midland has a very good consignment store on Washington St. called Just for Kids. It is a little smoky from the tobacco shop next door, but I scored tons of deals for next season on all name brand clothing. I am adding this since we are all about a good deal on the site!

P.S. I was born and raised in Midland although I am not there anymore.

That about sums it up. LOL. Actually Bronners is huge. It can take hours just to go through it. My DH won't even go in there anymore. It is just too much for him. :rotfl:

You can go to the bronners website and get coupons before your trip. Also you can join the Bavarian Inn and Zenders birthday clubs for free chicken dinner during your birthday month. Just go to each of their websites.

We did the carraige ride once, and the driver tells you a lot about the history of the town. We want to do the riverboat tour one of these days.

Birch run is nearby, and it has the best outlet shopping in Michigan. We usually make the trip about 1 time per year.

Welcome to Michigan. :flower3: There is an ongoing Michigan thread on the community board too.

We ate at Zenders last Nov. They give you pleanty of food, more then the 2 of us could eat. There was a line about 5:30. We had to wait 30 minutes for a table. We enjoyed the food.

Went to the Christmas store. We were there for over 2 hours looking at everything.

Have Fun.

Welcome to Michigan!

Frankenmuth is all about shopping and eating. Bring lots of money! LOL The Bavarian Inn Restaurant has an old fashioned Glockenspeil ( I know I misspelled that!) which tells the story of the Pied Piper, it's kind of neat. The Castle Shops under the restaurant have everything from a candy shop, wine shop, toy store, and bakery. I love the Castle Shops! Main street has all kinds of litle shops and eateries. You'll find the Frankenmuth Cheese Haus, the Fudge Kitchen, a country store, toy stores, quilt stores, just about everything you can imagine. It's a charming town.

In the warmer months there are boat rides and nightly lazer light shows. They have horse drawn carriage rides that rage from cozy, romantic rides for two, to a much larger wagon type carriage that the whole family can ride together. The Bavarian Inn Lodge is great for a winter stay with kids thanks to the arcade, indoor mini golf, and five pools. Zenders also has a waterpark hotel and it's own restaurant with chicken dinners and basement shops.

One year we discovered Michigan's Own Military and Space museum. Since my husband is in the service, we loved it. It's a museum that focuses on the service of the men and women from Michigan. We could have spent hours in there but the kids were very young then and grew bored quickly so we had to leave. We'll go back someday to get a better look.

I love Frankenmuth! We try to go once a year. It's a family tradition.

Cool, thanks for the info. I lived in Midland from 80 to 90. I will definitely check out the consignment store for clothes for the youngest

My youngest and I did this yesterday and loved it. Lots of history and information.

For those who recommended the Brewery, I was not impressed tonight. The food was not that good. We had the Philly Steak sandwiches and they burnt the onions plus it had a weird sweet tatse to it. Oh well, it was a nice try.

I thought I would post a few pics from our day trip last fall. They are pretty much around Bavarian since that was when I had my camera out. We did the carriage ride as well that rip.
