Iv watched the video and I think I understand how it works..
You make your FP choices online before you leave, then scan your FP+ card at the FP line when your time arrives..

Questions
how do I sign up for it?

Can you still get regular FP?

Is there a perk for staying at the disney resort?

I have a AP and will be staying at a disney resort..
Rumor says AP pass holders will get 20 FP+ pre quarter...
Do I still get the perks for stay at the disney resort?

I feel like I'm misunderstanding something... Please help!

Most of the answers to your questions are unknown or only rumors.

I know of no video that explains FP+. Can you link to it, in case it's not one that discusses regular old FP?

When it rolls out for real, it will be hard to miss. The 2 or 3 daily threads here on the DIS will likely become 2 or 3 dozen.

I hope you guys have a great trip!

YouTube:

It just shows the way it works in the parks..

Am I able to sign up or is it by invite only...
We have already booked our rooms at ASM, and wasn't sure if I missed something

This video looks like it shows you how the test worked and only tested some of the mechanics of FP+.

Also their description has a lot of info that is only rumor, but they present the info like this is how its going to roll out.

Great way to confuse everyone.

According to what I've read you won't be able to use regular Fastpass if you register for Facepass+.

FastPass+

The ability to pre-plan specific times to enjoy attractions is called FastPass+, currently on its third round of testing at Walt Disney World, which first began in May 2012. With the launch of the new “My Disney Experience” site, Disney has revealed details of how the FastPass+ system will work when (soon?) made fully available.

Disney’s official description of FastPass+ reads:

“Once available, Disney FastPass+ service allows you to select an arrival window to experience certain park attractions, character meet and greets, and quick-service restaurants, and to arrange a viewing location for certain entertainment such as fireworks, parades and shows.”

By planning a trip to the parks ahead of time, guests will have the opportunity to schedule times to take part in a variety of attractions. Disney notes the availability of FastPass+ times and access depends on a variety of factors, including “the theme park you are visiting, the attraction or entertainment experience, the time of year and the day of the week, and prior demand.”

Much like Disney’s existing FastPass system, each guest will need their own access to attractions by way of FastPass+. But planning ahead will no longer require running around the park with a handful of tickets, individually inserting them into machines, hoping for a good return time.

Instead, new radio frequency-equipped cards will link to attraction reservations made online prior to arriving at the park. A simple tap against a Mickey head-marked post will make the connection and offer preassigned access, such as the one installed at Peter Pan’s Flight and The Haunted Mansion in the Magic Kingdom shown below.
Though the “My Disney Experience” site, guests may manage groups of friends and family members, setting up FastPass+ selections for entire parties at once. The number of FastPass+ reservations available to each guest is limited, spanning across an entire group.

In addition to reserving ride and show times, FastPass+ will also allow assistance with dining, by allowing guests to order a meal prior to arriving, simply selecting the time at which they’ll want to eat.

According to the rules posted on the new site, FastPass+ selections will be available for one park per day, available for each attraction, entertainment or restaurant experience just once per day as well. That is, for example, guests cannot pre-book multiple trips aboard Space Mountain, though are certainly free to join the Standby line as many times as they want once in the park.

FastPass+ reservations may be changed online up to the point when the first is redeemed or expires for the day. Unredeemed FastPass+ experiences can be changed throughout the day, so guests who want to stay flexible while in the parks can simply skip a time they chose and go online via a mobile device to make modifications to the itinerary if needed.

Guests purchasing Magic Your Way tickets can begin planning FastPass+ times 60 days prior to using the ticket. The selection window for other ticket styles, including annual passes, is yet to be determined.

Existing ticket holders, including annual passholders, wanting to participate in FastPass+ will be able to “convert” paper tickets to a “paperless” variety, via “My Disney Experience.” A new RF-equipped ticket will replace the old, allowing access to all of the newly-enhanced planning opportunities. The old FastPass system will no longer be accessible for those who switch to the paperless option. Likewise, old paper tickets will no longer work for theme park admission, requiring the new tickets to enter.

Annual passholders will need to hang onto their paper pass, for now, to verify passholder benefits, such as merchandise discounts.

Interesting....

I doubt we will get the offer for FP+, since we did a room only booking
We are planning to buy annual passes this year...

Will they still have CM at the beginning on the lines once this gets rolled out?
Is this Disney's way of cutting back on staff?

I'm going to say yes.
Someone must stop guests who try to enter the FP gate without a valid FP
to trip the FP+ sensor. (And, to ascertain problems with guests FP's.)

And, we know that they will (must) have a "greeter" on the attractions with Height Restrictions
to assess and measure the kids.
That CM could do double-duty, I suppose.

Wow! THanks for all the info! and NOOOOO...seriously..it sounds like in the future, no one will be able to do much of anything without booking it months in advance! Honestly, we don't go often, and with discounts cutting back, this may be our last trip, and I plan out the wazoo, so I would take advantage...but for those who throw in a last minute trip, or live close by so just go whenever, I can see this being a huge disadvantage. Having pre-designated spots to watch parades and pre-reserved times to go on rides? GRRR..I know some will love it...but I think Disney is going a little overboard with all the "planning".

and also...I'm guessing I'm safe from this for my trip in 2 weeks...disney will probably announce this months in advance if/when it goes into full effect.

I don't know about "months" in advance.

I'd like to think so, but...

Everything remains to be seen.

I just stumbled onto a thread in the "Codes and Rates" section saying free dining would be very different this year. The rumor is that it would have no FD at the values, and the mods and deluxes would offer only the QSDP.

With all those rooms to fill, I wonder what on Earth Disney might use to motivate people to book..........

I've heard this is a rumor...guess we will have to wait to find out if it goes into effect...however, I'm not sure they will "replace" it with anything..DIsney is starting to cut back.

Yeah, my main issue right now (as it *seems*) is that with FP+ it's going to be all or nothing. So if I wanted to utilize FP+ a few days of my vacation but just use regular FP the other days, that isn't allowed going by the "paperless tickets" section of the FP+ description. I don't like that we'd be locked into 4 FP's a day, every day, and that's it. If this were something to be used in conjunction with regular FP I'd be more likely to get behind it.

Also, sometimes when my mom or younger son wouldn't want to go on a particular ride, we'd use their tickets to get 2 more fastpasses for others in our party to use for a ride they'd like. Doesn't seem like that's going to be possible now either...

And I thought I saw somewhere on the new Disney site that when this rolls out, the reservations will open up 60 days in advance???? I could be wrong about that but swear I think I saw that timeframe...

You did see it, and it mentioned MYW tickets in the same breath.

I didn't read anything that indicates that if you use FP+, you can't use FP, or vice versa. How they will handle tickets vs. bracelets, etc. remains to be seen. It wouldn't take much to add RFID readers to the FP kiosks...incredibly simple, actually. Won't take replacing them to do it.

Its in the terms and conditions document for the My Experience website and app and it's painfully clear. It says exactly that.'
Found it:

From the Disney Experience Terms & Conditions : "You are required to convert paper tickets and passes in order to make and use FastPass+ selections. Once you convert a ticket or pass you will no longer be able to participate in the standard FASTPASS service upon arrival at the parks."

Where is it on the site? I haven't been able to find it.

If that is the case, that's a MAJOR change, and really sucky.

Edit: Never mind, found it at the end of the ginormous conditions page. GAH!
