FP+ (No More Paper Fastpasses)

I don't think some people realize that locals, who make up a great number of visitors to DLR, are not going to want to plan their fast passes well in advance. The nature of the two parks is so different. I have no idea why WDW vets expect DLR to be the same - it boggles my mind. I would not expect WDW to be the same if and when we visit - this has nothing to do with ones ability to deal with change either - that was a bit offensive in my opinion. People can handle change fine when it makes sense!

We are locals & do not have a problem with this change. This is basically the same as before minus paper & the actual walk to said attraction for FP+.
I personally would LOVE the advantage to prearrange the time on rides so I'm STILL NOT waiting in LINES for either a short 2 hour impromptu visit OR a weekend staycation (DVC members) it does not matter that I'm a "local" cuz I'm sure NOBODY likes line waiting. The change to FP is not exactly how I hoped it would be but oh well - it is what it is and at least they do realize sometimes change is needed. :rolleyes1 Perhaps they will change this down the road for those who stay on property to have a slightly earlier advantage & then that would EXACTLY be what I would love! :cloud9: Have a great day!! :flower3:

When is this being implemented? Is it just in the planning phase or going in effect this summer?

Yay. Now us foreigners HAVE to get a data plan. Oh well... if there's one thing I know about this place, once the system is hot, there will be at least one thread detailing how to get them and how to do it the most efficiently.

If the system were EXACTLY like the one at WDW, I don't see how that would work for locals at all. But thankfully, it doesn't sound like it's going to be the same. They are having to alter it due to the large number of locals.

Check out the Canadian boards there's a sticky about data plans and getting SIM cards for smartphones ;) I liked Telaway a LOT when we were in Florida for over 3 weeks.

I was referring to the OP who was surprised DLR didn't have the exact same FP+ that is found in WDW. The FP+ which is being described here in subsequent posts is much different. It's a paperless version of the same process. I still can't imagine a local wants to plan 6 months in advance as people who visit WDW are sometimes required to do.

So, DLR noob question here...we are considering our first trip to DLR after 3 recent trips to WDW under the new FP+ system. The thing I'm struggling with the most about the DLR FP process is the return times. I am used to WDW, where I can choose what time I want to ride. I know I've got a lot more studying up to do on paper FP before we go, but can someone give me a brief run down on how the return times work? Specifically, do you have any choice on your return window or do you just take whatever pops out of the machine and deal with it?

You take what pops out and deal with it -- HOWEVER, the return times are posted both on the Disneyland app and right outside the FP machine areas.

With the CURRENT paper fastpass system, you get whatever pops out of the machine. If they start doing a new paperless system, it may be different. We don't know yet.

Two years I never would have believed I would be saying this - but WOW - I hope this gets rolled out ASAP. I've got a trip planned this summer to DLR and let me tell you, for someone used to WDW, the lack of pre-planning FP+s is killing me!! Sadly - it will probably roll out in phases and as an off-site guest - not apply to me.....

Perhaps NOT @ 6 months in advance but at least a day ahead OR as soon as we check in @ the hotel while NOT actually having to JUST be INSIDE EACH PARK. This was mention in the Mice Chat article WAY BACK when as describing the adding of a FastPass + system in play at DL & NOW it has ARRIVED with an official article from THIS site along with a pic that someone was kind enough to take of said FP+ machine!! So maybe they changed their mind about onsite property reservations to have advantage but everything else came true! However they can always change this later on! :rolleyes1 ANY ADVANTAGE to NOT WAITING in LONG lines for something should be welcoming to ANYONE LOCAL or NOT is all I'm saying. :worship: I'm not sure if the new way will help this but I love Disney and will take it however they choose to do so. :flower3:
I'm so lucky to live so close to DL my whole life & then become a DVC member is the cherry on top! :cloud9: I speak :mic: as a "local" who does NOT have any issues with CHANGE !! :thanks: Have a nice day!!!:flower3:

I think not needing to be on property to make a FP reservation really opens this up to much higher levels of usage, even from people who don't follow through and show up. I think requiring people to be in the park is a critical piece to maintaining adequate supply of FPs throughout the day. Fingers crossed that's how it turns out.

I agree...I think that's a much more important part of the system for DLR than WDW because of the sheer number of local AP holders.

I was not sure how it would work OR if this helps with LONG lines either but at least they are trying SOMETHING different. Honestly, when my young adult kids used FP+ for the 1st time @ WDW they were not so sold on this due to my part of planning for them BUT once they discover that THEY can plan their OWN schedule and could change it when they NEED to...... they LOVED IT !!! Never had to wait more than 10 - 15 minutes on any prearranged ride during our very CROWDED HOLIDAY visits!! So coming back to our home park in DL with our AP's at almost any given time (there are no longer as many slow or off times in DL as a few years ago) to CROWDS sucks!! :scared: This is when DVC became our only advantage to not waiting in long lines - EMH !!:teacher:
Once again I say with no bitterness " We welcome ANY change Disney offers us !!" Enjoy your day!! :flower3:
