FP+ for dummies??

I have been out of the loop for a while. I know the basic idea of FP+ but would love a link that has all the ins and out of the program. Am I correct in understanding that I have to link our park passes to our account in order to use FP+?

My concern is we have a ton of tickets from our last trip but I am not sure that what we noted on each ticket as far as days left is correct. So what do I do to plan ahead? Is there now a link I can use to check how many days I have left? Since we will be in Fl a week before our DW trip begins we planned on driving over and checking what we had and then decide what we need to purchase as far as extra tickets go. Looks like that plan may not work....Please help! Lol

HOWEVER- Nobody knows exactly what FP+ rules are in the future (the future being any time past tomorrow, and I'm not kidding.)

2- Yes.
AND- in order to make ADVANCE reservations for FP+ you ALSO must
have a reservation to stay at an on-site WDW-owned resort.
To make "day-of, in-park" FP+, you don't need a WDW resort stay.
This could change (or not) at any time.

3- Add a ticket to your MDE account and see what it offers you.
You can add multiple valid tickets to the same account, then choose
between which of them you want to use, or use first.
