FP+ Details Are Out!

I just wanted to chime in as a somewhat newbie to WDW. I just got back from our first trip in over 10 years in February. I did my research here and easywdw and had a great plan. With that being said, I did go off my plan a time or two when my 9 year old saw a couple of things he wanted to do that I hadn't planned on. I felt I did take things at a more relaxed pace than most here probably because we didn't do anything twice at MK but we definitely did a hell lot more than 9 things even with my newbie knowledge. We had one late afternoon- close to see Wishes at MK and then another ropedrop morning where we left after the 3:00 parade. On our MK night we arrived around 4:00-4:30 and stayed till around 9:30-10:00 and got the following things accomplished in order:
Met Mickey, watched some of the Dream along with Mickey show (grabbed fp for Buzz), Monsters Inc, Peoplemover, Stitch, watched some of the Dance party, Buzz, grabbed fps for Dumbo & Barnstormer, Astro Orbiter, Found a last minute spot for the Castle projection show and Wishes, rode Dumbo & Barnstormer with fps from earlier, ate late dinner at Cosmic Rays, caught most of the second parade on the way out with a pretty good spot
So in just a 5 hour period not even counting the parade and Wishes, I did 8 Disney attractions/experiences and wasn't rushing around or anything. Spent some time at the Stitch Dance Party which was a lot of fun and watched some of the Dream along castle show...
My ropedrop morning (again not a full day, 9-3)
Space, Speedway, Peter, IASW, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Pirate tutorial, BTMRR, Carpets, Treehouse (waiting on our JC fp), Jungle Cruise, Philharmagic
shopped on Main St
caught the 3:00 parade on the way out
So again way more than 9 things (didn't do anything twice, we weren't rushing around either and only stayed a half day, used fps for Peter, BTMRR & JC)

I think its safe to say that even the Average Joe who has never heard of the Dis or easywdw should be able to experience more than 9 things/rides especially if they are there a full day....

Great that you got so much done!

I would just say this: "should be able to" is very different than what the avg person "actually does" -- I presume that Disney has info on the latter after decades of data collection, which is the stat that matters when you're designing a system.

I would just say this: "should be able to" is very different than what the avg person "actually does" -- I presume that Disney has info on the latter after decades of data collection, which is the stat that matters when you're designing a system.

That "9 attractions per day" is an often quoted Disney stat.

Nine attractions per day.

Look at an attraction list, decide what to ride, do a bit of research...
many folks can be "Junior Disney Ride-Masters," too.

But you are strong, the force is with you. I do have to say i hope they don't take away the ability to be a super user

I hear ya. I do think that when they think "average", they're also thinking across the year (to your point about Feb vs summer - I agree).

I also think you might be selling yourself short -- sounds to me like you were one of the best informed "newbies" out there!!

From reading all this, it seems like for me the biggest outstanding questions relate to how same-day fast-passes will be handled. We can safely say that we will be limited to three *pre-reserved* fast-passes, all in a single park, but

1 - will same-day fast-passes be available only after the windows for the pre-reserved ones have passed, or can we reserve right away? (presumably subject to something similar to the current limits)
2 - will the only options for grabbing same-day fast-passes be through either smart phones or a very small number of in-park kiosks, or will something analogous to current fast-pass kiosks still exist at individual attractions?
3 - will same-day fast passes be allowed at a park other than the one at which the three pre-reserved passes were scheduled?

All of these are definitely still in the "we will have to wait and see" category.

No, not Christmas Week or 4th of July or Easter/Spring Break,
but in Jan., early Feb., May, Late Nov., early Dec.

Anyone here NOT do something at least similar?

Whew! Look what happens when I miss a day. 20+ pages on this thread. I can't go through them all but I read the first link and the first couple and last couple of pages.

It sounds so complicated. I am very much regretting having purchased tickets in advance from UT (not the August ones, I'm still going on that trip).

The tickets haven't even arrived yet. Maybe they'll take them back. I was saving $ before the price went up but the new system just doesn't feel vacationy enough to me. I don't want to plan and organize and decide and alter and be either attached to my smartphone or wait in line for kiosks.

I am going in August. We'll have a great time and then I'm done.

I am truly happy for those who like FP+, (I really am), but for me it takes the magic out of Disney and I'm out. I want my vacation to feel like a vacation, not a conference.

Pretty much us right there. Skip Space Mtn and add another Pooh. Amd we Tavel in the summer.

We did all this the first Mon. in June this year, we needed to leave the park before 6p, so if we could have stayed longer, we would have done more. Also, we would have been able to ride Splash twice if it wasn't down the second time we tried. So we did 14 attractions from RD to 5pm (also ate 2 meals)

Agreed 100%. It's bad enough I have to decide where to have dinner 6 months in advance. Choosing what rides (and hence parks) I want to go on 2 months before we arrive is flat out idiotic.

I agree. I really dislike the idea of being tethered to a smartphone instead of just enjoying the day - especially with so many people's smartphones connected to work email nonstop. Seems to take away the "vacation" feel. I also don't want to feel pre-scheduled like at a conference, but I think it may feel like that. Hoping I'm wrong, but ńot excited that a family vacation is getting more and more digital...

I think that's exactly the point. This seems to be a way to "level the playing field" between planners and non-planners. It's also good for marketing because if fewer first timers have a bad experience with line waits and such they're more likely to become regulars.

I disagree completely. FP+ rewards only the planners. There is no upside at all to those who do not plan their ride schedule in advance.
