FP+, 7DMT, and More! - Here Now with Tips, Info, & Encouragement (updated 6/5)

Yesterday was a complete washout! It was cloudy all morning but at 2pm, the heavens let lose and the rain was on and off the rest of the day all the way into the night past the fireworks. For me, rain can make things difficult but I still think we had a nice day at MK.

Started off with breakfast at CRT, which was amazing as always. We didn't have any young kids or princess-lovers in our group, but we really enjoyed it not as much for the princesses but rather the food and atmosphere (no better way to start your day than IN the castle). Really a great experience and worth it in my opinion. Our ADR was at 10:15 and we were finished just after 11:30.

We headed over to Tomorrowland to ride Buzz then returned to Fantasyland for our FP+ 7DMT. In reality, it's much more fun at night. Maybe because it was my second ride on it but I can't call it amazing by any stretch of the word. It was fun, cute, and nice, but not necessarily an E-ticket in my opinion.

Next, we headed west to grab a snack at the Golden Oak Outpost (great fries and you can also get the free iced water there) and went to Tom Sawyer Island for a bit. This is definitely a neat area and worth exploring. By the time we returned, it was time for our Splash FP+ but it was down. For those who don't know, if an attraction is down during your FP+ window, you will be given a list of attractions (most FP+ ones except 7DMT, Wishes, MSEP, FoF, and character greetings) that you can use your FP+ instead through park close. That said, on that list is also your original FP+ attraction, so for us, that was Splash. We discussed where we wanted to go for about 5 minutes and lo and behold Splash re-opened. Jumped in the standby, waited about 10 minutes (the line had been emptied due to the breakdown), and got onboard. Unfortunately, between the time we entered the line and the time we boarded, a torrential downpour had begun but not enough for them to close the ride. Needless to say, we got a little too wet on Splash. I don't recommend riding it in the rain.

Drying our clothes took a lot more time cause the rain/clouds didn't let up all day. We did a bit of shopping and headed over to Space to use or FP+, but of course, that was down too, so we went over to HM, had lunch at Cosmic Ray's, and attempted to see the new Festival of Fantasy Parade. Biggest disappointment of the trip is that it was canceled. While I understand that it would have been unsafe for the performers, I was still pretty upset. They brought out the MK Rainy Day Calvacade, which consisted of three back-to-back Main Street Vehicles with some characters on them set to the old Countdown to Fun soundtrack except they occasionally inserted "Rain, Rain, Go Away". If you've never seen this, consider yourself lucky. I wish I could have those four minutes back. That said, I'll be back, so I will see FoF then.

We returned to Space to see if it was open and it was, so we rode using FP+. We then got another FP+ for Splash for 7:35 at the kiosk. Tip here is that those kiosks are incredibly stubborn and you've got to press down hard a couple times to make a selection. Scrolling on the list of attractions was particularly difficult. The CM advised me to hit the bottoms of the arrows, which seemed to work. The app needs to be able to book 4th FP+ soon. The kiosks have somewhat sizable lines, are annoying, and were very inconvenient, but I rather have 4th FP+ from a kiosk than none at all.

Rode the TTA and Mad Tea Party than just chilled for a bit. Went on PoTC as another show came in. Walked around New Fantasyland and went to dinner at BOG at 5:30pm. Such a wonderful restaurant but not worth the ADR craze. Don't get me wrong, it was really nice, but I wouldn't do the whole 180+10 thing again for it. Overall, nice dinner though. Be sure to meet the "Master" (the Beast) in his study. Lots of laughs and fun!

We were in there for quite some time but just made our 7:35 Splash FP+ then got another for Space, while some in our group rode Splash again (only had a 15 minute standby due to all the rain). We met up and rode BTMRR and then did Splash one more time. After all that was said and done, it was time for the highlight of the day: the Wishes Dessert Party.

I had never tried the WDP but will certainly be doing it again. This was 100x better than the IllumiNations one. Much more established too, you could tell. We got there at 9pm and were let in about 10 minutes later. The view was fantastic and the desserts were plentiful and delicious. Because of my dairy allergy, I couldn't eat most of the desserts but a chef came out and brought me my own plate of non-dairy desserts. This made my day. There was some sort of chocolate/fudge cake (non-dairy of course) and dairy-free cookies and ice cream and fruit scattered around the plate. Delicious! Watched Celebrate the Magic (which has really grown on me) and Wishes from here and it was perhaps the best view I've had. Oddly, it started raining towards the end of Wishes but they kept going. I've never seen someone launch fireworks in the rain, but because we were undercover, our experience was virtually unchanged. This is, by far, worth the $30!

After the party, we used our FP+ for Space, rode Buzz, Astro, and Under the Sea Journey of the Little Mermaid before doing some shopping at the Emporium on our way out of the park. It was a busy day, but everyone's resting today.

What did we learn? Rain definitely makes navigating the parks tricky but decreases waits, FP+ kiosks are difficult to use and take time so plan accordingly, Golden Oak Outpost (right next to the Pirates game) has free iced water, the Rainy Day Parade is pitiful, FoF does get canceled, BOG is great but not worth the ADR thing, and the Wishes Dessert Party is a must-do.

Overall, we had an enjoyable day! Weather is looking much nicer today with more blue and sun and less crowds. We're doing breakfast at 1900 Park Fare before we head to a water park and top it off with dinner at DTD. Thanks for following along!

Thanks for the tips and tidbits! December will be our first experience with MB and FP+, so all the ins and outs are most welcome!

What did you mean by MouseGear does smell? :)

Glad you're enjoying it! The reference to MouseGear was a joke about an earlier thread that asked if the OP was the only who thought it smelled. One side has a sewage-like smell I noticed. That's all!

Thanks for the report. Good info. I'm enjoying your reports. :thumbsup2

I've had friends come back with the same report from Tutto Italia.

Now, you did write that you had to "dash" over to the Dessert Party due to having had a TT FP+. And you "shoveled down" the desserts and wine. So, to clarify, if someone arrived earlier, would have more time to enjoy it? Or was the time wdw scheduled for this event so short that everyone has to rush the wine/desserts before being taken to the viewing area?

Just gotta say...... with all the wdw visits in your signature...... how did you remain an "O Canada virgin" for so long? :upsidedow

To answer your ladder version first, I don't know. To be honest, WS has always been kind of an after-thought for us with most of our focus being directed towards FW, but on recent trips, that has changed quite a bit and we're starting to really explore that section of the park more.

In regard to the dessert party, it certainly would have been nicer had we not had to rush but not worth $50. I think $30 would have been reasonable. The party itself was kind of dull with not many desserts being offered and the wine not necessarily tasting good (so others in my group say, I don't drink). After doing the Tomorrowland one, I can't say I think I'd do the IllumiNations one again. In my opinion, the MK one was better but cheaper, which doesn't make sense. That said, the view was truly incredible for both parties, so you can't go wrong!

awesome review and glad your trip is going so well ! this may be a stupid question, but how do you check the status of the Mb's each day? do you have to go to the front desk ? I only ask this because we haven't been back since they've started the magic bands, so I really don't know a lot about them.

To check that status of MBs, go into My Disney Experience and click on MagicBands and Cards. If you see a red box over any band that says "INACTIVE" or "LOST", you'll want to click on it and uncheck the deactivate box if you plan on using the band. Apparently, a CM had deactivated a band by accident.

Sorry I haven't been answering questions. Been really busy! I'll check again a bit later today. Thanks for following along! I've enjoyed writing these thus far.

Thank you so much for the reports! I really hope they start doing all the Illuminations dessert parties from the building. You get seats there correct? It almost makes me wish for bad weather!

Sorry to hear about missing FoF, andyman. I saw it for the second time on Friday and was reminded--not to put salt in the wound--the Maleficent Dragon rig is in.cred.i.ble.

Standing only, no seats.

I was hoping someone could help me, I have googled every way I could ;)
Two questions:
1. If you do NOT have parkhopper, can you use two of your day passes to visit two different parks in a one day? For example- we are deciding to pass on park hopper and instead do the Christmas party with the funds. Because we are going to have party tickets, we will skip the parks that morning and were hoping to use that day's tickets to go to Fantasmic after being at Epcot for the day.

2. Second part- Fastpass plus- Can we book two fastpass plus events at Epcot and one at Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic?
Thanks so much!

1. No, that's what parkhopper is for--and why parkhopper is more expensive. The lone exception is if you did DHS, Epcot, or AK during the day and used your MVMCP tickets for MK entry after 4:00p. That is allowable since it is a separate hard ticket.

2. No. All 3 must be in the same park. See the green link in my signature.

I can see why they do that, but we can't do both the party and park hopper. Will make a new plan! We are staying at the Boardwalk Sat-Thur, Christmas party tues. Are we able to use the extra day ticket (by skipping morning park on party day) if we checked into a non-Disney hotel on Friday or are they useless once our regular reservations are "up"?
Truly appreciate your help.

The tickets are good for up to 14 days after first-use, and has nothing to do with where you are staying. Once you move offsite, you will only lose EMH privileges.

Question on FP+ when the ride goes down......I know that becomes a use anytime on select rides, but curious if you have to use that before getting a 4th. Example: first two FP+ have been used and 3rd is set for 12-1 in 7DMT. That ride is down and no other FP+ available for that ride later so you plan to hold that FP+ until mine train comes back up. Are you able to book a 4th right then or do you have to wait until you ride Mine train?

too funny!!! I see why you have the a top thread of the month award! This is great!

Love following this thread! Thanks for all the updates! I wasn't able to get a Wishes Dessert Party ADR, but will keep checking! November is a long ways away!

As a reminder, 4th FP+s can only be booked at kiosks. I tried to make a modification on my app and it did not work either.

Some have wrote that after you visit the kiosk and get your 4th+ FP+, you may then go back to the app and modify it....but after you get it at the kiosk.

This probably has been answered, but I was wondering if there is a ride photo on the seven dwarf mine train ride? I am guessing that it's a no, but how about a store with their merchandise when exiting?

Nope, no ride photo and no store at the end.

Loving these updates! Witty and informative, and the "What did we learn?" at the end is a great summary. Ponchos are now must-haves for our packing just in case and we've had the same experience when it comes to the Italy Pavilion: pretty to look at but a stroll through is better than the food.

We were able to get our fourth FP+ before using either of the two. Because they say it is valid until the park closes, it seems logical that this would be the case as well.

I was able to make a change to 4th FP+ on the app in addition to copying it but you must reserve it at the kiosk. The same thing goes with the 5th, 6th, etc... FP+. Those also must be made from the kiosk but can be edited from the app.

We did not get the dessert party on our first try. Something is bound to open up!

Awesome....I think this is logical as well but not sure I had read any comments on it before. Good to know b/c it would kinda stink to miss out on getting more FP+ b/c you were waiting for a ride to come back up.

Thanks much for your reports back. I'm not heading to WDW til Oct, but I like to hear how the new system is working for folks right now.

Seems like this thread has lost some steam. Oh well; we'll keep going!

Yesterday, we started with breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. For those that have never done it, this is a must-do. The characters are lively, funny, and generally great and the food is delicious. Dinner is nowhere near as good and much more money in my opinion. Breakfast was great though. We ultimately checked in at 10:45 and finished around 12:30. My only complaint was the spacing of the characters. Two appeared within our first 25 minutes of eating and the other three were back-to-back about ten minutes after we paid the check.

We returned to the room to get changed into our water park clothes as the skies started to cloud over a bit, but after ten years of always being rained out, we were finally going to visit a Disney Water Park and I wasn't going to let clouds get in the way. We ended up leaving at about 1:30.

Bus service to the water parks is apparently atrocious (or at least to TL). We got there at 1:30 but we didn't get a bus until closer to 2. We stopped at both DTD stops, had a driver switch (which took an incredible amount of time but at least I got to hear about our driver's life, hopes, wishes, and dreams that he shared with his colleague). We got there just after 2:30 and went right to it.

Started with Crush 'n' Gusher (rode all three types plus a second ride on one), did Gangplank Falls, Mayday Falls, and a couple other slides. We were able to do all the water slides except for the couple for little kids. Tried the Shark Reef and Castaway Creek and then chilled in the wave pool, which was surprisingly my favorite activity of the day. We headed back around 4:45. Mind you, because the clouds, there weren't really any waits for the slides. We had a blast and I'll definitely be returning! The theming was incredible and blows our local water park out of the water (literally) and the slides were fun and efficient. Definitely worth the $50.

Upon returning to the GF, we hit the Captain's Shipyard (marina) where we rented and raced the SeaRaycers. Those are a blast. If you haven't done them, make a point of trying them. The marina closed at 6 with us having to return them at 6:25. Because of that, we got over 40 minutes on the boats with only having to pay for 30 (plus AP discount) minutes. Awesome!

Rested a bit, showered, and drove over to DTD (was not going to repeat the TL bus situation) where we ate at Wolfgang Puck (delicious), shopped at World of Disney, grabbed an Italian Ice (rainbow flavor is the best if you ask me) by Characters in Flight, and strolled around a bit. Maybe we just got lucky but the parking at DTD wasn't as bad as Disney said it was. This has also been my experience in past trips. If you're going to DTD on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday night during anytime except Christmas, Fourth of July, and Easter, drive. On other nights, the bus would probably be worth it.

We ended up returning to the GF at about 10:30 after a fun night. I made a FP+ for Space and headed into the MK to use it. Walked around a bit and rode Space. Astro and TTA are now closed (just for maintenance nothing special) but I was surprised to not see any scrims or anything. Two walls have gone up surrounding the entrances to both rides but the Lunching Pad remains mostly clear and open. Walked over to the Contemporary and grabbed a light snack at the Cotempo Cafe (favorite quick-serivce on property) before getting on the monorail and returning to GF.

In general, a really awesome day yesterday!

So what did we learn? Bus transportation to DTD and TL is spotty and should only be used out of necessity unless traveling to DTD on a Thurs, Fri, Sat, or Sun night. TL is worth it but consider visiting on a cloudier day to avoid having much of a wait, rope drop at TL is not necessary, the only Dippin' Dots location at WDW is at TL, the marina is open later during the summer, parking is not that bad at DTD, italian ice is available by Characters in Flight, and FP+ does come in handy for short, last-minute visit to the parks. I think short park days is what FP+ is best for with those of us who staying at the parks more than 5 hours requiring to better manipulate the system to our advantage.

Today, we're off to DHS. We've such an enjoyable time that we're considering returning in August for my son's eighteenth birthday while my daughter is away at camp. Still looking into that as an option but having a blast! While FP+ certainly complicates things and does lead to stress at times, I wouldn't say it's ruining my experience by any means.
