I landed at MCO this morning at 6am. DD and I returned from a trip to LA. It was a very rough landing. The wind picked up just as we were making our descent. I overheard the pilot tell another crew member as we left the plane that the tower had told him the winds were 15 mph with light rain. Instead, we experienced tropical storm force winds and blinding rain. We had to wait for another plane to depart the gate before we could pull in. The plane was rocking from side to side because of the wind gusts. People were beginning to complain of feeling that sea sick feeling. I then drove home from the airport. It was not a fun drive. I could barely see because the rain was so intense and the wind gusts felt like they were going to blow us over. Our only damage at home was a small tree knocked over. So, although Wilma certainly did not affect Orlando like the past hurricanes, it definately was a rather intense experience.
I am glad that you and your DD are safe. It's sometimes easy to think that a Cat 2 or 3 is "nothing" when it can be quite devastating. Thanks for sharing & bringing back some perspective.
