Day 2-Epcot

Arrived at the CR's concourse monorail station about 8am for the ride to Epcot. As I said in my CR report, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=592362, transferring at the TTC was a bit of a pain every time we went to Epcot, especially when you're hot & tired or in a hurry. I guess we're used to bus service-a direct shot. Arrived at Epcot about 8:35.

We had already decided that me & DD would ride Mission Space first & the rest of our party would get fastpasses for Test Track. I was hesitant to allow my nephew to ride MS since I hadn't experienced it before. He probably would have been OK, but he said he didn't care. The others-no way!!! DW would have been ruined for the day. DD & I were glad we experienced MS, but weren't up for a second trip. We were both nauseous for about an hour afterwards. That ride is intense!!! Star Tours times 5 at least!

Anyways, we did most of the major attractions in Future World. Niece & nephew loved Test Track & HISTA. Interestingly enough, my niece kept saying all week her fave attraction was Spaceship Earth. She's only eight! Maybe she takes after me-it's my fave too.

We had a 1pm PS at San Angel in Mexico, so we headed that way about 12:50. This is a regular stop for us. We just love the atmosphere & the food. I did a full dining review at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=593196 if you're interested.

After lunch, we rode El Rio Del Tiempo & did some shopping to enjoy the AC a little longer. No one in our group likes World Showcase as much as I do, so we made our way around to Morocco pretty quickly to see if Alladdin & Jasmine were there. They were & we got some good pics. One of these days, I want to really do WS right. You know, discover all the little details you can't see just skimming the surface. DW & I are planning our next trip alone, so maybe we can spend more time here. It was blistering hot, so we took a boat back to FW & then monorailed back to CR.

When we approached the Epcot monorail station, one train had just left, so I asked the CM if we could ride in the front. He said yes, but only four. DW agreed to ride in a regular car, so I told the kids we would ride up front. When the next train approached, a lady & her kids made their way up to the front of the line & asked about riding in the front. The CM initially said yes, so I raised my hand & reminded him I had already asked. He then told the lady someone had already asked. Her & her kids were already approaching the front car. She got mad & started saying something about not knowing you had to "make an appointment" to ride up front. As it turned out, she was in the same car as DW & she was fuming the whole trip. She started making it into a race issue (she was Hispanic, me white). DW wanted to yell at her but remained cool. I think the CM was mostly to blame for not remembering I had asked first. The monorail captain was not very nice-she didn't speak one word the whole trip. DW & the kids rode again later in the week & the captain talked their heads off. Gave the kids a monorail pilots license & everything. Oh well, it was still cool to sit up front.

The kids were anxious to go swimming, so we did that for about an hour before a thunderstorm closed down the pool area. It's amazing what a nap or a swim will do to reinvigorate you for evening activities.

We were scheduled to do an Illuminations cruise that evening with a fellow DISer & her family, so we walked over to the MK & caught a bus to the Yacht Club to have dinner at Beaches & Cream. We love this place. Good food, good atmosphere, good service. Everytime we go there (Y&B), DW says, "We've got to stay here!" IA. Maybe next trip.

Met our fellow cruisers a little before 8pm & had to wait a few minutes before the boat & captain were ready. The weather was iffy, but it worked out just fine. My nephew got mad at me because I told them he was 11yo & not twelve (he actually turned 12 four days after our trip) & therefore he had to wear a life jacket. He was none too happy! Other than that, the cruise was great. This is a nice way to see Illuminations without having to hold down a spot for 60-90 minutes at Epcot. Plus, at the end, there's no crowd to fight. Our driver was Nicole. She was great.

After the cruise, we shopped some at the Boardwalk before catching a bus to CR via DD. Not a short trip-about an hour. All in all, a good day.

Upon arriving at CR, my nephew wanted to call his dad. I figured he was going to tell on me about the life jacket. After a few minutes, he hands me the phone & says his dad (my brother) wants to talk to me. Give me a break, I thought. Well, as it turns out, my brother didn't want to talk with me about that at all. It seems my nephew suffers with heat rash in a rather sensitive place (I won't submit you to the gory details) & it was really bad this time. Obviously, WDW in June is not a good time to encounter this problem. Anyways, they told us what they usually do to combat the problem, so we agreed to get the proper medication to help. Luckily, the gift shop had what we needed. Remember the title of this trip report? Now you're getting the picture.

More to come soon!

Great reports so far! I was able to take my 80 year old father to WDW in February...just him and I. It was the first time I'd ever gotten to really see World Showcase. Usually I'm with grandkids and it's a rush through. Dad & I spent most of our time there as it was Dad's favorite. He loved Off Kilter in Canada and seeing all the streetmosphere, etc. It was the best trip!

Tell you brother, next time to send the special rash medicine with his son if it's something that usually happens. This way, his son could take care of things while keeping a secret and you don't have to pay Disney's giftshop prices for the stuff.

When we were there in march for the day we rode the front car for the first time and our driver did not say a word either!!   :snooty: :sad2: :confused3
