M&N, you have a great Easter too.

I actually did some cleaning today. When I had gone through all the kids clothes, I ended up with an empty tote box. I gathered all my books that were all over the house and packed them away. They are all arranged by author too. Took forever too....my entire bed was covered with books. :rotfl: I think tomorrow I'm going through the kids toys again. Time to throw out another bag of stuff they don't play with anyway.

Good for you. Sounds like having a retired librarian for a friend rubbed off---by author...I'm impressed.

I have piles on my bed now too...things to take to Mom's. I'm going for breakfast somewhere in Hershey with a friend who has to work. So I get to pick her up around 7:30---20 min to get there. Don't think the singing thing will work out. I haven't called that friend. So I do need to have things together.
Do you have a place to donate the toys? Are you moving the books? I've gotten rid of a lot of my books. I'm mainly keeping the autographed ones I got at conferences during my working years....I need to decide what kid I want to have them.

Most of the toys that I'm planning on getting rid of are missing pieces and such. They actually don't have very many toys to begin with but it's time to go through what they have and see whats worth keeping.

I'm keeping the books for now. I just don't know if I could get rid of them. I kinda get attached to them. And now DS is getting old enough to read some of my books. I just may slowly pass them along.

My books were so old they were smelling like old books! I think some were from HS! I liked authors like Victoria Holt and Daphne du Maurier. I think they were considered gothic novels back then. My trashy romances are passed around so I won't get them back. I haven't read much lately.

Have you seen Dr Ruth on any shows? She promoting a new book about stay at home moms. Larry King didn't believe people put stay at home mom's down. She disagreed. She was stressing she wasn't putting down moms who have to work---siad he heart goes out to them...but she wrote the book praising those who stay at home. She said she got up at 5:30 to write when her kids were little and didn't write while they were around. That's about all I heard---cannot even remember the title.

I'm only missing a few that I've lent to SIL. Know I won't ever get those back. I've been reading a lot lately but it's all books that I've bought using gift cards from Christmas.

Trashy romance? I never would have pictured it.

I could never read those kinds of books. They would just embarrass me way too much. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I need to go through the kids' books yet too. They have tons as well. The girls love to read (can't figure out where they got that from). I need to find some way to organize them so it's easier for them to keep them put away.

But I'm by myself when I read them. Mom doesn't know how bad some have gotten.
Are the kids books in a series? Could you separate by reading level? Picture books/chapter books. Definitely keep nonfiction separate. Some may want those they will read mor often handier. Have fun! It's not as hard as separating scrapbook paper and stickers.
I'm out of here...Night...have fun sorting.

I'll have to work on it this weekend when all the kids are here. Might make it bit easier to see what they want done too.

Have a great Easter!

Night!

Happy (Good) Friday everyone! I always carry some residual Catholic guilt on Good Friday. I know I'm supposed to be glad for what Jes*s did for us, but I think calling it "Good" is a bit much. Forgive my doldroms...too many years of Catholic school I think! :lmao:

I'm a huge reader too, and I'm with you Racetrack about getting attached to them. I've passed a lot of favorite books to my nieces and nephews, with the stipulation that they get returned! Its good to share and its fun to revisit some books with a new reader.

M&N...I've read some trashy books too. Most times, I get embarrassed by the 'details' so I skip some pages! But I'm all about the romance and the drama...I have to get it somewhere! b/c BF is definitely NOT the romance type!

Can't wait to see that picture Wendy!

Have a good day everyone! let's hope the weather gets better....

Hope everyone is having a Good Friday ;)

It's sunny and sort of warm here so the plan is to rake the yard...DH is already out there with the tractor...I'm hoping to delay it as long as possible.

And yes, I got a new bathing suit. I wouldn't exactly call it "hot". It's just a Lands End "Tugless Tank" in a sort of little dotted print. That and 2 of my usual solid tanks will do me just fine.

Most of my swimsuits are from Landsends...love them. I figure I'm way passed the hot stage of life anyways...my sister who spends hours doing yoga and pilates wears the bikinis around here.

I love a good trashy novel...especially sitting at the beach. When my sister read the Twilight books I had to laugh when she complained about the scene where they finally get together...I tried to tell her that the books were written for teen girls...but she kept says "I want my 40 year old lady smut":rotfl:

Morning!!! Cold and dreary here but really, what else is new? It's suppose to be like this for the next 2 days. But they are saying nice and sunny for Easter Sunday. I hope so since we always do an Easter egg hunt out back.

Today we are going to paint the eggs. I think we have about 3 dozen for the kids to share. Now I need to figure out what the heck I'm going to do with 3 dozen hard boiled eggs.

magikitty, that's cool that you share your books too. The girls already have a love of reading but DS is a different story. Before he lived with us, he never had any books and was never encouraged to read at all. He was reading at a 3rd grade level at that time and he was half way through 6th. Now he has no problems devouring my "adult" books in a week or two. At least, I know we've done something right with him.

Ev, nice and sunny up there, Lucky you. But you deserve it after that snow you had. I've looked at the bathing suits on the Lands End website. Some of them are very nice. I'd order one but I wonder how easy it is to return it if it doesn't fit right.

I didn't know that the romance novel has become so graphic. I guess I'll have to check them out. :rolleyes1
I wish women would stop attacking each other over being at home or work. :sad2: Everyone has to do what they think best for their situation. Let's all get along. :flower3:
I'm slightly annoyed. DH came back from the golf course and the Nisssan decal on the grill is missing. The car is only two years old WTH. Silly thing costs $13 and S&H is costing $10!
I'm afraid to buy clothes without trying them on as I have such a weird shaped body.

I hear ya on the eggs. I usually end up making deviled eggs Easter morning (after they've been found).
That is so good to hear that your DS is reading adult books now. You ARE doing something right!! Don't ever forget that. My DS11 is in 4th grade and has moved from a 1st to a 2nd grade reading level. :woohoo: We are so excited. He actually choose to take out chapter books (Star Wars) from the Library. Can't tell you how great that feels. He can't read every word, but he tries hard and reads the ones he can.

Ev - Our weather sounds about the same. Its been 55 and sunny here for a few days. I'll take it cause at least its not freezing and cloudy.

I liked that Geography Lesson joke - think it was Pikester or Ev???? Can't remember who wrote it but :thumbsup2.

Whgrn - I missed it...Where are you going this week???:confused3
We'll be waiting for that picture.

Yesterday at work, I saved my school about $40,000.:banana: Its my job to negotiate with the textbook sales people and we are buying new Reading/Language Arts books for next year. So I not only got the rep to give us quote UNDER BUDGET, but then to also throw in $40K in freebees. :yay::yay:
Bet they're wondering why they didn't renew my contract now. ::yes::

D&DDisney Sounds like you're a great negotiator. :thumbsup2 Maybe you should give us tips.

Hi All, I know it's been 4evr since I've been on. Just wanted to pop in and wish
Everyone a Happy Easter:goodvibes.

Hi disney54us! nice to see you! happy Easter to you and yours!

you go D&D! Awesome negotiating skills. You toot all you want! $40,000 is AMAZING.

My family never did Easter egg hunting. I just asked BF the other day what you did with all the eggs after they were found. He said you couldn't eat them, and I thought that was such a waste. But since I've heard you can eat them afterward, now I'm pro-hunt. Its not supposed to be nice here on Sunday...more yucky weather.

re; smut books....there have been times that they've been SO graphic that I actually had to put the book down and think about what the characters were doing....OH MY! But it is a great escape, and a little smut doesn't hurt too much. I try to get ones without big hunky man on the cover, or else I just use a book cover!

Which reminds me....I'm not reading anything at the moment.

Congrats to all the fantastic mommies who get their kids to read. You guys rock and are giving your children such a wonderful gift. The world is endless with a book. It gets me excited just thinking about all the wonderful stories waiting for me out there.

In less than 72 hours I will be :beach: Wahooo!!!! Gonna pack tonite when the kids are in bed, and finish tomorrow. Turks and Caicos, here we come!!

Well, since I'll be gone all next week, please feel free to come to my house and do the same!:lmao: I do the toy sweep every fall before Christmas. And lets not even talk about books! I don't read so much as I inhale them! :rotfl: That's why I bought the Kindle--saves money AND trees! I always passed my books along to my boss, but she can't keep up with me. I recently Freecycled about 3 big boxes of books. My favorite type is historical fiction and historical romance. I can't deal with the smutty type, so I read the ones by Christian authors. MUCH cleaner.

DD asked me that very question today--"why do they call it GOOD Friday when He died? It should be BAD Friday!" I always thought the same thing. We called Pastor Jeff to ask and he said he always thought that too. But he said that "it was bad for Him, but good for us". So maybe that's why?

Well aren't you the smart one!!!:woohoo: Good job!

As far as kids reading, DS is like me. Constantly has his head in a book, and he just inhales them. He's on the last Harry Potter book, and only started AFTER my surgery! Not sure where to send him next. He's on an adult reading level, but he's only 12, so content is an issue. Some sort of series would be great, but I have no idea what's out there. any thoughts?? DD on the other hand will read only when forced. Reading is not easy for her and she doesn't enjoy it. At 13, in 7th grade, she's on about a 5th grade reading level, and really struggles with comprehension and following the story. She chooses things like "HSM 3: The Junior Novel", which is probably 3rd or 4th grade level. Better than nothing, I guess.

I'm going to post pictures tonite hopefully, or at least tomorrow. I have to load them into the computer, transfer to Photobucket, such a hassle!
