what a way to end the year/start a new year!! we found a bald spot on my head about the size of a quarter. it is not just hair that has been pulled out. kevin looked and said you cant see any hair follicles, no remanents of hair there at all. i am a female and only 26 years old!!! this should not be! i am totally freaked by this. i know i need to call the doctor and i will. in the mean time it is rather hard to hide. i am devestated. girls are NOT supposed to be bald!!! i feel like a total freak and like everyone can see. been avoiding going out. i just about burst into to tears everytime i see a hair. even though some hair loss is normal. i havent noticed the hair coming out. when i comb my hair there is always some but never alot.
anyway...sorry to vent to ya'll. any advice on how to hide the spot till i see the doctor? my hair is shoulder length and all one lenth.

thanks for listening.

:( More women go bald then men... or so I've heard. SOrry I'd be freaking out too but they have so many good hair restoration things they can do these days!

{{{hugs}}}

Ask the dr. about a thyroid check. Also, do you get enough fat in your diet? Believe it or not they say that can cause hair loss in women. Good luck.:D

A lady I worked with had a similar problem and the doctor gave her a topical med to apply to her spots. Her hair did start to grow back. She'd show me from time to time and I could see an improvement. (I didn't know she had the problem at all, she brought it up one day and showed me. I was surprised 'cause you couldn't see the spots.)

For some reason I think her problem was also stress related. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was part of the problem. Don't get too worked up about it, it might make it worse. Try to take your mind off of it until you can get to the doctor. (Hard to do, I'm sure.)

Where is the spot you have located? You may want to get some layers cut in to help hide it temporarily.

Good luck!

Annemarie

thank you all.
annemarie~ the spot is on top, in the back but on the side. sort of on the crown of my head but off to the side. does that make sense???

faith~thank you for the thyroid suggestion. i did not know that that could cause hair loss. my mother had thyroid cancer twice (30yrs apart) before they took her thyroid. will definitely talk to the doc about that.

I understand your concern, Angela. I sure don't have much on top any more, but being a guy, it seems to more go with the territory. I can only offer a {{hug}} and tell you that you will get some good thoughts here on the DIS. My best.

angela,
Calm down.
As a hairdresser, I see many women with exactly what you are describing.
Usually it is stress related. Of course, I am sure it could be related to thyroid or something so you should see your doctor.
Yes, women do go bald but I have never experience that with any of my clients in 20 years of hairdressing. Everytime the hair grows back. Everytime. Sometimes it comes back in gray--but not most of the time. Have you been under a lot of stress? Our bodies react to stress & worry in different ways. This could be yours. Calm down so you don't stress yourself out more. I know, easier said than done. :) I have one female client who applies rogaine (over the counter) to her head and it works wonders. (She doesn't get bald spots, she is overall thinning A LOT) Usually, what I have experienced is that rounder spots that get about the size of a quarter come back. Be patient and if you think you should, see your doctor.
Take care and good luck.
Brenda
