Came across this old guide today and thought I'd look at how the resort rates have increased. They only give a range so I compared the lowest room to the lowest at the resort and the highest to the high season best view "regular" room. (Frommer's had a seperate range for suites).

Here's what came up for a few examples:

CBR has increased 56% since 1993 for the cheapest room -- $85 vs. $133. For the waterview at holiday time -- up 101%! $104 vs. $209.

GF has seen a 54% increase in the low to low comparison -- $220 vs. 339 and 46% for the high room $604 vs. $415.

Over at Y&B, the $195 room has gone up 48% to $289 and high season takes you up 44% from $355 to $510.

Room tax at this time was 10%, it's now 11.5%.

From 1993 to 2003, OKW dues have increased 36% from $2.56 to $3.49.

Looks like we are still coming out ahead.

Thanks PamOKW, I'll have to save the '03 book for 10 years, so I can look back and see how our then 10 year old DVC purchase compares.

I thought the moderates had gone up a lot! We stayed at CBR in 1994. I swear they've gouged the prices on the moderates just to force people to stay at the so-called Value resorts. Probably why when we've stayed with cash recently we've gone ahead and booked at the deluxe resorts....with a discount rate they aren't that much more than the moderates!

Makes me even more glad we've joined DVC, though. And what we spend on dues is much less than we'd pay for rooms for the amount of time we spend at WDW....and it looks like the difference is getting larger all the time.

here are prices from the WDW for 1996

resort - value season - all standard view (lowest)

CBR - $95 - all moderates

ASR - $69

OKW - $195 (studio)

BWI - $225
BWV - $210 (studio 4 )
BWV - $235 (studio 5)
GF - $265 (lodge)
GF - $450 (Main Concierge)

Polyn - $200
Cont - $195 (wings)
Cont - $270 (tower)

WL - $159
YC/bc - $225

vb - $160 studio
HH - $99 studio

like your price comparison Pam - we definitely have a better deal with DVC.

if anyone is interested I can send them a copy this is price list that WDW use to give out to anyone who is interested - I don't think they do it any more.

That brings back some memories. The first trip we took to WDW was in May 1993. We stayed at Port Orleans and the rate was around $84.00 per day! We booked a package through Delta Vacations with a travel agent, but I don't remember the total cost.

Thanks for posting this.;)

We stayed in 1993 at Dixie Landings. Now one of the Port Orleans resorts.

For those of us who travel a lot, that is why the Disney Vacation Club concept works. It is sort of inflation proof.

Interesting Post and fun to read. Thanks!

1st. time I went to WDW with my DW was in 1991 and we stayed at the CBR and it was, are you ready for this..... $69.00 a night. The resort had just opened that year and we were one of the first to use it.

Huh? Which DW would that be?

We took our first trip to WDW in 1989 to CBR and paid $85.oo plus tax. We were told we were the first family to stay in the room, in the Aruba section that had just opened the day before.

I'm not sure what we paid or what section we stayed at CBR but it was in October 88. I remember watching Kirk Gibson win game 1 of World Series from my CBR room.

MY family went to WDW in '92 staying at CBR and paid $93.5 ( tax included) a night for a parking lot view room.
I t seems to me when they built the All star resorts they really raised the prices up on the moderates.

1980- Tree House Villas- think it was about $120 per nite- beeeeeautiful, would be nice if they became DVC

We paid $69 in 1991 too! It was a special price from the precursor to Disney Club that was available to corporations to offer their employees.

Hmmm.

I paid an AP rate of $79 in May 2003 at CSR.

I wonder what the AP rates were back then?
