Can anyone tell me if the hotels onsite provide I.D. holders and lanyards for the room keys or is this something that I need to purchase beforehand?

No, they don't give you anything to hold the room key, which is the size and shape of a credit card.

The resort gift shops sell a lanyard/wallet type thing that is perfect. It has a clear pocket on the outside to show the room key at rides.
