I have a question for all you repeat DCL cruisers....

We have cruised on DCL Magic twice. We like the Category 11s because we are hardly ever in our rooms and the kids sleep in for us when it's so dark!!

The first time, we were on Deck 5 forward. We loved the location (close to the clubs) but felt quite a bit of motion. Not that big of a deal but on this last cruise we decided to try mid ship on deck 7. We hardly felt any motion and loved the central location.

We are cruising on the Magic again in January and wanted to get the same staterooms however they aren't available. We were assigned two Cat. 11s on deck 7 aft. I have no experience with aft but I think I recall reading here that people like it because you feel less motion and it's quiet. Another good thing is that we are near the secret deck 7 aft deck!!

So.....I am looking for opinions on why you like what you like and if anyone has experience with deck 7 aft, I'd love to hear from you!!!

Thanks!!!
Kelli

It's funny, we just take whatever they give us, and usually we like where ever we are. We're easy to please. We like being by the clubs and restaurants, or like being by topsiders and the drink station. You have your advantages either way!

We've stayed forward, mid-ship and aft and aft is definately our favorite. We love deck 7 as well. So quick and easy to run up to the drink station or to Topsiders/Beach Blanket for a quick breakfast.

I'm glad you posted this question since our only experience is midship and we're aft this time.

I THINK YOU GOT THE BEST LOCATION ON THE SHIP, IN MY OPINION! :cool1:

I never felt any motion that was different from the rest of the ship. There is another big plus to your location besides the secret deck.... you are a stone throw from the food. It's very convenient when you want to run upstairs for a soda or a muffin in the morning. Take the back stairs. A lot of people don't even know that they are there, but 2 flights up and you are at the end of the buffet line.

I prefer AFT because I spend most of my time running back and forth to the Mickey pool, drink station and food. I only go FORWARD when I'm seeing a show (once per day, if that) Everything I frequent several times a day is AFT. You will love it.

Now don't tell anyone! :rotfl2:

ITA with kaykels. It is so convenient to Topsiders, Mickey Pool, chicken fingers, secret deck and the drink station.

They say it is calmer in the Aft section, but since I have never stayed in any other part of the ship, I can't attest to that.

See, I knew I could get answers here. You guys have put my mind at ease!! Really I'm happy to be anywhere that puts my on the ship :cool1: but since aft is the only location we haven't tried I was curious. Thanks again!!

Deck 5 aft aft aft! I'm sure deck 7 aft is fine, too, but the higher up you are, the more likely you are to feel motion (think of an upside-down pendulum...the "swing" is greater towards the top). We stay deck 5 aft on almost every cruise and have only felt the motion once (during a hurricane, when you could feel it EVERYWHERE).

Yeah...

Aft is good. Mid ship is slightly better. And forward is not too good IF any in your party are vulnerable to sea sickness.

Cheers! :thumbsup2

I'm glad to see all these responses as well. We are Deck 5 Aft in room 5622. After seeing the layout, I chose this room due to only having one neighbor!

Another plus being so close to the kids clubs... walking son there from the room will be a breeze! :)

We are on the Wonder this April but Magic next April and hoping to book the same room again! :thumbsup2

We've cruised twice and stayed both times mid-ship. Actually the same stateroom...once on the Magic, once on the Wonder. We like midship and we also love having a verandah! We sleep with our door open so we can hear the ship moving through the water.

I was on a cruise in November ,different CL. We were so far forward there was only three cabins in front of us. I seldom get sea sick this cruise I was.

They other thing being so far forward we had to walk the whole lenght of the ship for dinner, & the buffets in the morning. The funniest part about that we were the last table back in the dinning room,of aft ,we were right next to the hug picture window.
:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

Great view of the ocean as we had dinner. :thumbsup2

Most of the time I've had mid ship port side.

Our first cruise we were midship, and I never felt the movement. The second on we were at the very front, no rooms in front of ours, it was a long long walk to food, and I have to say, I really felt the movement the last night. Wow, all of us did. I didn't like it, however, that was on the Disney Mexican Rivera, I heard you always feel it when you come back into California??? Several people have told me that they usually always feel it. Something about hitting rough currents coming down from Alaska??? Anyhow, I don't think I want to be upfront again.

Now I am worried, we are in 7503 and that looks pretty far forward. We have sailed twice before and the only time I remember getting sick was on the first night walking down to dinner passing all the porthold windows on the way to one of the restaurants. Other than that, It was okay. Guess I better get some seasick medicine to take with us.

I'm worried with you....we have connecting rooms 7007 and 7005 for January 13 2007 ~ all the way forward. I am prone to motion sickness and now I'm really scared of these rooms!! I did not actually get sick on the Wonder last August, but I definitely felt motion the first night at dinner. We had rooms on deck 1 and never had a problem down there. The sea was pretty calm in August when we went...I am thinking it will probably be little more rough in January.

I asked the TA to see if deck 1 connecting rooms were available this time and she they weren't :guilty:. I am hesitant to book connecting rooms on deck 2 since I don't want there to be a noise issue being under a club or restaurant. Oh boy...now I don't know what to do

Only good cabin that's forward IMHO is on deck 8 if you get my drift. After 6 cruises I'll stick with aft if I have a choice. April 15 '06 cruise is an aft veranda room. I love the ease to access drink station and topsiders. But in truth anywhere on the boat is great.....unless your in the brig!!! Opps that was another thread- ;)

I was on the Mercury Mexican Rivera, & last night is when our two cabins got ss the most. Coming home. Matter of fact now that you mention I heard alot of people were ss. We docked San Diego

You are in our favorite area on the ship! :) We have stayed in 7010, 7503, 8004, & will be in 7007 this year. It was great being rocked to sleep every night. I don't fall asleep easily usually, but was out in minutes on the ship. :) The motion is more of an up & down than side to side. None of us have gotten ill on the ship...and our first cruise had 20+ foot swells on 2 or 3 days. Walking was interesting & it was difficult to stand in line at the PC chef station at lunch. :)

We have been in 7127 three times (1-7 night and 2-3nights) It is cat. 11 aft. We love our room. Yes, I said our room. We'll be in it again in June, so take care of it whoever will be in it until then!!!!

I am not trying to scare everyone from the front of the ship. We thought it was nice and quiet, VERY long walk to all the food, but nice to get to the Walt Disney Theater. It could only be that we felt the current from Mexico/CA.. coming from Alaska current. I have never sailed Mexican Riveria except for on Disney, and that was when I was up front. But being a West Coaster, many many people do the 3-4 cruises out here to Mexico, and many have said they really feel rough waters coming back home. So hopefully that is all it was.
