I have just managed to book a last minute trip for the last 2 weeks in August. We are DVC members from the Uk but no doubt because of our last minute booking ( we had no choice - as we have recently had quite a large fire at our home) no dvc resort was available for the first 8 days but fortunately we were able to secure a cabin at fort wilderness. We have stopped at the majority of Disney accommodation but never here.
Having started to do a little "research" after booking, it seems that there are many good points to Fw but "travel" problems seem to be an issue.
My children are 6 and 3 so do people think I will need a golf cart to get about and if so can I / Should I book 1 in advance?
Additionally any views on FW good or bad would really be appreciated.
Thanks as always in advance*

It has been awhile since I stayed in a Fort Wilderness Cabin (we loved it!). Do you think you will be spending a lot of time at the campground. If so I would rent a golf cart. We did on one of our trips and we enjoyed having it. Not only did it provide convenient transportation, it was fun to ride on. I would advise renting one well in advance, as I have read that they do run out.
I don't think there really are better "views" in Fort Wilderness.
Others with more experience may be able to recommend specific loops which are more convenient etc.
Enjoy your stay!

Hi there!

We stayed at Ft Wilderness in a cabin almost 2 years ago. I had young kids too although not quite as young as yours. We didn't rent a golf cart but we also had our own car so didn't use the external bus much.

Anyway, we loved the cabins and Ft Wilderness. It does seem like you are removed from the action there, very peaceful. I had requested the 2400 or 2500 loops, from my research they seemed popular. They are smaller loops, near a bus stop and a pool. However, we got a cabin in the 2800 loop, about 6 cabins back from the entrance and enjoyed it very much. There were many cabins in the loop so I don't know if I'd like all the way at the back (although if you have a cart that wouldn't be bad either). I was worried because on the map it looks near the main road but there are woods between you and it so didn't hear traffic noise. I don't think there's much difference in views anywhere but I could be wrong. Mostly you are doing to see woods and the other cabins on the loop.

You should post your questions on the Camping at Disney World board also, lots of FW vets hang out over there.

Have fun!

We stayed in a cabin in 2004 and really enjoyed it. We had 2 kids of similar age to yours at the time and were glad we had a golf cart. It just makes life easier. Not sure I would want to stay there without one. I would reserve one in advance because they are very popular.
