Through my DH work I have been invited to a charity dinner and auction. The invitation says Formal and I dont know what to wear!!!!!!!

I don't have a great choice of shops where I live so i have not got that much choice.Any ideas :confused3

Looks like a dress is in order, I have no experience of this sort of thing but I would guess a black not too dressy one. That way you can add shoes & a bag to make it different every time.

How long have you got, Can you get something online or have a day out to a big city?

:)

The do is on the 19th January. Went the nearest City today which is 50 miles away and it just seems to be the worst of the worst dresses left. Nothing in Debenhams, Monsoon, Next or M&S. I just want something very simple but it is so difficult to find.

I am so nervous about the whole thing as I am sitting at a table with a load of my DH clients so don't want to let him down!

I had to wear a long dress/ball gown last Christmas' works do and I got it on Ebay, at this time of year there probably isn't going to be a lot left in the shops although what there is will be in the sale.
I think this is the same seller I had mine from, it definately came from Germany and this is the same dress, which incidently was in the window of one of local boutiques just before Christmas priced at £75.00

Hope this helps.:)

Formal doesn't mean "black tie". It means formal. You don't need to wear a ball gown. You need to wear a nice simple dress, a nice skirt and top or a nice trouser suit.

Our TK Maxx had some lovely dresses which were £40-£60 and some twin sets, two piece suits etc last week not sure if they still have any might be worth a look:confused3 Formals seem to be smart dress code similar to prom but not ball gown outfits :confused3

Try BHS, I was in there looking at bridesmaids dresses last night and there were some gorgeous slinky ones for about £100 that would be perfect for a formal do and wouldn't be obviously "bridesmaid" at all.

How about trying some of these shops on-line Jackie. Did you look at the Next website?

:)

I have just got in my new Next directory but I cant see anything - I am a wee bit fussy (DH would not put it that politely)

Been online but anything I see they dont have in my size. I went into town today and bought a few dresses out out of the Monsoon sale and will try them on later. I am not mad on any of them but with 70% off I can't be too fussy. The chances are I wont wear it again - well I know I won't but us ladies don,t readily admit to that:cool1:

Wish me luck:rotfl2:

How did you get on with the Monsoon dresses?

:)

Oh yes let us know Jackie :) Hope you are happy with one of the dresses, do we get to see a piccie???

Tricky one! Formal could mean business suit or Black tie. If Balck tie you definitely need at least a cocktail dress of sorts. Ebay has some great Frank Usher tops (think sequins) which you can get for about £15 which you can dress up almost any trousers or skirt with. You could cover all bets that way whatever the invite really meant.

Not a chance:confused3 .Am I the only woman on earth that nothing ever fits!!!! The first exposed a bit too much cleavage!! The second one was a strapless black dress with pink underneath but it wouldn't do up (no other size in the shop!!). The third was a red dress and was horrible. The forth was a new arrival in Monsoon - cerise pink and strapless but full price. I tried it on and although it was ok I wasn't blown away so I can say i wouldnt wear it again so I can't justify £85

What about the first one with a cardigan or a wrap?

:)

If it fell off I would be down for indecent behavior:rotfl: It really did show tooo much - if you know what I mean
