What's the best way to check into our resort and get into the parks without our magic bands? We have our card tickets and I have the app.

You can use the app for most things. You should be able to open your resort room with it and use it to get into the parks. The problem is that it is only your account. Everyone else will need their own phones with the app.

If you go to the front desk they should be able to give you cards or if not then guest services at your first park will. You can use your phone to enter the room.

If you already have card tickets and they show on you MDE app, those should work. When I had an AP I used my card instead of the MB to open doors, entry, etc without going to the front desk each trip. In June, I used my unlock door feature from the app to open the room door frequently.

All of these worked just fine. Granted, I do not wear a MB on my wrist anyway so maybe it doesn’t bother me as much using other options.

Thank you everyone for your ideas. It's only a one and a half day trip so I wasn't planning to buy new magicbands, just reuse ours from a previous trip. I'll see. Do you know if you can use a card to open the pool gate?

The card works for all functions for which a MB can be used that are activated with a "tap."

Just making sure I understand. The plastic card that I got in the mail for my tickets will also work for my Disney hotel room and to tap for photos?

When I read, people talk about the card for the tickets and then other people talk about the Key to the World card for the room. I could never figure out whether they were the same card.

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
It's not complicated.
A guest's MB contains an RFID chip that when "tapped" accesses the owner's files in MDX.
A guest's plastic card contains an RFID chip that when "tapped" accesses the owner's files in MDX.

In the same way that guests can have any number of active MagicBands that access their MDX files...
guests can have any number of active plastic cards that access their MDX files.
(Or both, combined.)

I never knew this! Are you saying I can use my AP card to get into my hotel room? My AP card shows up in MDE as "active" but I never realized it can be used for hotel rooms!

Any card that is active in your MDX account can be accessed at a "tap-point" reader.
Any MagicBand that is active in your MDX account can be accessed at a "tap-point" reader.
The card has an RFID chip that contains it's own unique ID number.
A MagicBand has an RFID chip that contain's it's own unique ID number.
The CHIP does not contain any kind of ticket, AP, resort info, etc.
The CHIP just accesses a guest's MDX account info.
The guest's MDX account DOES contain all ticket, AP, resort info, etc.

It is analogous to being able to type in your eMail account number from any computer, smart phone, or tablet with web access... and then being able to use your eMail account.
The "device" is unimportant... it is the "account" that you are accessing that matters.

So I just wanted to update now that I'm here. When I checked in, they said that the ticket card isn't enough and they gave me a card that works the same as a magic band. I assume it's only for tap functions, but I somehow have one ride photo in my account, so I'm not sure.

Sounds like the chip in the card is the same as in a MB, so it will pick up photos.

Cards won’t work for linking ride photos without tapping at the photo screens. If your phone is logged into MDX with Bluetooth enabled and MDX allowed to use it, your phone can auto link ride photos.

That can be subject to debate.
Many cases have shown that having only the "near-field" RFID chip can activate the on-ride photo sensors (or at least some of them.)

Since the OP was told that these cards (different from the ticket cards they already had) “would work just like MBs,” is it possible that they contain the same chip that allows MBs to link long-range photos?

Even the MB's need an active battery to pick up non-tap photos. That is why the old ones won't work for that.

Interesting about them giving you another card.

Nope.
