Hi

We are trying to get our USD has anyone seen any best exchange rates the best we have seen is 1.73. My dh said it has gone down again. The other week it was 1.78 for quite a while and now its dropped again :confused3

Thanks

Thomson had a promotion on, where you buy USD, on the new travellers cheques card, the issuance had been waived, so £402, i received $750, we were told this promotion was extended until Oct. Not sure is this is true or not.

Marks and Sparks tend to be good for rates

We got our last lot this morning from M&S and is was 1.73.

I ordered some from Travelex online this morning - rate was $1.75, but they will price match, and Thomas Exchange were offering $1.78. I've already had an email confirming a cheque is in the post for the difference I would have had, but it is less the £5 delivery charge Thomas Exchange would have imposed.

It's the best rates that I have seen lately - although the tourist rate went up about 10 days ago to around $1.80 the $ has gained strength in the last week, and even the market rate is now $1.77.

I noticed this rate on Travelex this morning it showed 1.75 and in the afternoon it went down to 1.73 I thought it was the days rate and wasnt supposed to change until the next morning. Do you recommend ordering from Travelex and asking them to price match thomas exchange?

Do I buy now at 1.73 and ask Travelex to match Thomas or chance it?

The bank rate fell from over 1.79 down to 1.774 today :(

The dollar may weaken though depending on what damage Rita does.

Also, looking at the trend over the past two years, the rate does tend to go up towards December and January, lets hope it does the same this year :)

They don't actually match the price as such - you have to order from Travelex, and then email them them if you find a better price elsewhere - once they have checked out the price, they will refund you the difference - for me today it was only about £8.00 that I would have paid for the same amount of dollars from Thomas, then they take off the delivery charge Thomas would have charged. As you probably know, there is no delivery charge with Travelex - you just collect them from the airport of your choice, either when you fly or just when you're passing!

I wish I knew the answer as to whether to buy now or wait! I really don't know. I withdrew money from an internet savings account when the $ was 1.80 but in the 3 days the money took to get into my current account, it had come down again! In the end, I converted only £500, and I'm saving the rest in case the $ improves.

It's hard to say - it seemed to fall in the wake of Hurricane Rita but then it strengthened again today following news it might not be as bad as first feared. If it does hit bad, I'm sure that will cause the $ to weaken again, but it's kind of a horrible thing to hope for.

If the rate doesn't rise again in the next few weeks, we will just take and use our Nationwide credit card for the majority of our spending - this will always be the best rate at the time (but if it stays st $1.77, we would have been better off buying $ - it's a difficult game to win!).

DH ordered his traveller cheque card today, $750, for £407, rate is 1.71, this goes up slightly when you add the free $$$ and the issuance fee.

This was done at thomson, they have extended the deal for a little longer

Hiya

We have decided to go for a Amex Card as you get $50 free for $700 usd.

What we want to do is go for $700 usd and £500 travellers cheques and top up the card while we are out there. We cant take all the money with this before hand and we get paid 2 days into our holiday. I am paranoid about over spending on a card so we will be taking some TC as well.

Thanks for your advice.

Regards
Michelle
