Forcing yourself on rides?

Being a regular for 20 years now....and AP for 12. Did MS on a AP preview weekend and that's the last time I was on it!!! No use to me!! Love RNR.... TOT the first time wasn't my liking..second time was better...took my nephew recently on his BDay and TOT was one he wanted/heard to go on. We first did RNR and then got in line for TOT..As we stepped up to the elevator...he said he didn't want to...I said OK. But, he had me do RNR 6 times that day!!!! That made me proud!!!

:surfweb: If you have kids, with guts, how could you get away without forcing yourself onto a ride. Both my wife and I have done so for the sake of our daugther who is as far as I can tell not afraid of any rides. I would have never ridden the :scared1:TOT :scared1:if my daughter didnt want to, but I have to admit that I have grown to like it:woohoo:

I have forced myself to ride all the thrill rides at WDW at least once except for ToT - since falls are my greatest fear I have no plans of ever riding that one.

I usually try to ride something at least once, but if I hate it I never do it again. I have ridden RnRC 3 times and EE once but I don't plan on riding either again. The older I get the more sensitive I get to rides and they leave my dizzy and feeling awful. :guilty:

Almost every time, there are 2 rides that I've had to go one because of my family just having to go on them.
IASW and the Teacups.
IASW is jst boring to me, and while I could be in the Haunted Mansion or Splash Mountain, I'm stuck listening to that song for the....24th time.
My family seems to think it's the best ride there, so I'm automatically obligated to ride it.
The Teacups just make me sick, not gonna lie.
Never have I once been on without feeling either nauseous or like I'm going to lift up off of my seat and spin in the air. :lmao:

Hopefully whenever we go back, I won't have to ride those.

I force myself to go on Aerosmith's ride. I hate going upside down but my husband loves this ride. This year I am going to luck out though because we now have a little one, so he can go on and I will wait with her.

I love all rides with the exception of ones that spin. I will not ride the teacups, or triceratop-spin, but I force my self to ride Mission Space, because it's a fun ride and my family loves it. I forced my daughter to ride Tower of Terror. She wanted a T-shirt that said I survived Tower of Terror, though I told her she had to ride it before she could get one. She did, and she loved it.

Oh gosh. I always have to force myself to go on Tower of Terror, if I go at all. The last time I went, I was with a big group of friends who either had only been a few times in their lives or never at all! (So sad!) They wanted to do Pooh and a couple other rides I'd ridden 30320952 times as a kid, and the line for Pooh is excruciating. I haaate the song "Heffalumps and Woozles," so that ride is basically torture.

:p

My kids are thrill ride junkies so luckily they can go together. I have motion issues so certain rides are really out for me. I will say that I made myself do EE (never again), ToT (which I loved), Star Tours (another never again). I still haven't gone on RnR, Space Mountain and Mission Space (and probably never will). I also don't do the teacups - way too much spinning for me.

I'm not wild about Dumbo either, don't care for Aladdin's Magic Carpet thingy either, I don't like the up and down-ness of them...so I make my 6'5" 250 lb. husband ride it with our granddaughter. ;)

Thanks. It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one.

I will not force myself to do anything that will make me feel ill. Not going to happen, not for anyone. It would ruin my whole day. I get motion sickness. I can do RnR but not Dumbo. Go figure. On the other hand I would push past the fear of a ride if I had it.

Hi,

I am a big chicken when it comes to rides. I do Soarin (I find this so tame now that I am used to it) and also I have no problems with Dinosaur. I know I never want to do Space Mountain, EE and Splash Mountain. However I think I might be able to manage Test Track and the 'green' Mission Space, but would appreciate any detailed description of these rides from fellow 'chickens' that have plucked up the courage to do them.

Mission Space & Rocking Roller Rollercoaster are the only rides I will not ride again! The rest of the rides at Disney are okay.
44 years young. :lmao:

For some reason, I always force myself on rides I don't like. Except Mission:Space. That just made me too sick.

But I really dislike Test Track and always end up on it. I'm terrified of Dinosaur and always get talked into that as well. And the Safari makes me really motion sick, but I go on that anyway too. I think I just hate waiting around for everyone else to finish their rides. And I'm afraid I'll miss something great. But I think I am putting my foot down on the Safari this year. It always ruins the rest of my day.

Every year my son would want to go on Mission Space, the one ride I was scared to go on. Last year I finally gave in, took a deep breath and entered - Mission Space.:scared1: I kept waiting for my heart to stop and be sick to my stomache but, it never happened.:confused3 While it is not my favorite ride, I no longer mind going on it. I am now officially not a wimp.:lmao:

I wouldn't say, I force myself. But sometimes I don't feel like going on TOT (I don't find that ride fun at all, pointless for me), but my son absolutely loves it.:confused3 So my husband and I take turns going with him since my daughter wouldn't like it. But now I have worked it out so that I ride RnR with my son and my husband rides the TOT with him. :thumbsup2

My husband prefers RnR to ToT but he'll go on it because my son loves it.

Where I draw the line is the Teacups ride. I absolutely hate it.:headache: My husband goes on it with them at least once a trip. He forces himself to go on it, he doesn't like it either.:guilty:

I forced myself to ride ToT. I wanted to experiece the theming of it. I was so glad I did it! Not sure when/if I'l do it again though. Dropping rides are not my cup of tea! :)

My DH is a ride wuss when it comes to roller coasters at our local Six Flags (it's a challenge getting him on the kiddie coaster), but when he's at WDW, he will try anything once. He says it's something about the Disney magic that makes him forget he'll be plummeting down elevator shafts and zipping through Mt. Everest. DS9 usually ends up riding with Daddy "to help him be brave" while they leave their daredevil mommy to go it alone...jerks that they are... :rotfl:

I went on Soarin' this last time we were there, because my dd wanted to go on it. I was really afraid to go on it, because it's kind of like flying, and I really don't like to fly, but once I went on it, I LOVED IT!! I'm so glad now that I did ride it. Can't wait to ride it again!

My friend had to drag me on the Tower of Terror during my first trip to Disney... I was never much of a thrill ride lover, and I have a moderately strong fear of elevators, so I figured it was going to be a disaster. Huge surprise - I loved it! I hopped off after the first ride and got right back into line to ride it again. After that, I spent the rest of the week conquering the rest of my fears - RnRR, Expedition Everest and so on - and loving it!

No need to "force yourself" to get on a ride on a vacation:confused3 I can understand succumbing to peer presure to try something, but "forcing"?
