Would it bother me if my perfume gave the smoker (not an innocent by-stander) an asthma attack? Quite frankly - No. They aren't concerned about my health so why should I be concerned about theirs.

Now that's cold...................

OT...We have a 14 1/2 year old Cocker Spaniel named Cody too. Our other one, Lady, will be 2 tomorrow.

I got my 13 1/2 year old Cody from a cocker spaniel rescue group when he was a year old. Part of the agreement for me to keep him was that I had to promise to change his name.

He was originally called Spike and had been part of a drug deal! He's deaf now, but for years I would occassionally call him Spike to see if he remembered his first name and he did.

Articles in todays news state that Marriott is going non-smoking in all its US resorts in Sept. of this year. Just another large chain jumping on the bandwagon. Now if WDW will just jump onboard..smjj

The entire state of RI is non smoking as far as "work places" go. This was accomplished with much kicking, screaming and yelling about violating the rights of smokers. There are designated smoking areas that must be 50 feet from any entrance to a building so they didn't completely ban smoking just where it could happen. Restaurants feared they would lose business etc- I still have to wait for a table at many we go to and I haven't heard of any closing. The only exception to the law involves the casinos- that's another whole topic. So any place designated as a work place is also non smoking inside the building or within 50 feet of the entrances. I was a smoker until 1987 so understand the "need" to smoke but think consideration for those who don't should also come into play.
Designating certain sections of buildings and making them more than a request should help and if they can't guarantee that designation you could have the option of trying a different resort or smoking in a designated outside area. We had covered gazebos at the place I worked and it was soon noted that the "smokers" got to go outside on their break but the nonsmokers had to stay inside= got the smoke out of the building and then the ones who had complained wanted to go outside to the gazebo- there seems to be no final answer to this problem.

While MVCI is moving this way for some resorts, the article is about Marriott hotels.

We also live in a state that has recently banned all smoking, in all establishments BUT casinos. Which imo, is ridiculous. If it is a non smoking state, then that includes ALL locations. If this does not reek of the big buck speaking, I do not know what does.
Unfortunatley, what was feared as a result of this new ruling, is already taking place. We are beginning to see the local Mom & Pop bars/restaurants closing up. They can no longer compete. It is a shame.
IMO, whether an establishment is smoking or not, should be up to the owner of the establishment. Then if people desire to patronize that establishment with their smoking rules--that is their choice. To enforce all bars to be smoke free, yet allow casinos, which are less than 15 miniutes away, and also give free drinks, as long as you are on a casino floor--is slowly but surely forcing small mom & pop bars, in this area, out of business.
It is a shame, extremely unfair, and very unbalanced.

The smoking issue is just one of those things that will just keep going in circles.

I have seen people die from smoking.....some from second hand smoke? (maybe).. SO BAN SMOKING!

I have seen people die from Alcohol....some from second hand Alcohol DWI...a lot more than second hand smoke? (maybe)...SO BAN ALCOHOL!

I have seen playgrounds take down Spin wheels and Monkey Bars so kids wont get hurt or killed...Those are banned.....I think in the long run more kids will die from obesity from not playing at the playground.....SO BAN ALL FAST FOOD and JUNK FOOD.

People die from peanuts...second hand peanuts also....SO BAN PEANUTS.

Guns? Peoples lives are taken by guns everyday....peoples lives are saved by guns...sometimes. SO BAN GUNS.

People do not seem to be accountable for their own actions anymore.....So let the Government decide what's best...No Smoking States....No Gun States...No Peanut States....No Alcohol States...

Do not forget that we do not want to offend anyone either......So Ban Christmas Trees....Ban Halloween ( it is a Pagan Holiday)....Ban Menorahs....Ban these boards...Shut down any ride at Disney that anyone has died or got hurt on...Shut down the parks in August so people do not die from the heat....

I just had to rant.....I am tired of seeing this topic go round and round and round and round and round.

I posted earlier in this topic.....people just need to be considerate and respectful of others. Sorry if this offended anyone.....

One more thing....Stop letting these SSR people book at other resorts...Thier Ruining it for everyone else!!!!!!!!!! (SARCASIM AGAIN)

Coming from an ex-smoker, let smokers have a nice outside area where they can enjoy. Lets keep the rooms smoke free..

I agree with that! :smokin:

Many times, as we wait for our NS table, we will see patrons who request smoking ( or no preference ) seated immediately as they enter the restaurant. This admittedly unscientific piece of anecdotal information nevertheless would suggest that the majority of diners want to eat in NS areas, even though empty seats are available in the smoking sections.

I don't mind adults choosing to sit and dine in a smoking area if they choose, but it's dismaying to see some parents dragging their children into these unhealthy areas and subjecting the wee ones to the very real dangers of 2nd hand smoke. So for the protection of those who can't protect themselves, I'd prefer to see smoking bans and not leave it up to the individual restaurants to determine whether they want to allow smoking or not. Granted, the poor children may be suggested to 24/7 barrages of 2nd hand smoke at home, but every little bit helps when parents refuse to be responsible.

I sympathize with the smokers who can't quit, but I really think making it more difficult to smoke anywhere but in one's own home might actually aid them in quitting.

I have never nor ever will smoke in my house car or in front of my children or anyone else.....I am all for designated areas and always use them....I do not sit in smoking sections and do not book smoking rooms....I think second hand smoke is a danger and dirty...I have a bad addiction and have tried to quit several times......(and yes not smoking whenever it strikes me has helped me cut down)...But
It all comes down to having common sense...I can not stand seeing someone smoking in their car with children in it...Your right that the kids do not have a choice if their parents are stupid enough to sit them in smoking section or smoke in front of them.
They also do not have a choice if their parents drink in front of them or drive them in a car after a few drinks.
Children do not have a choice if their parents beat them or choose their religon or cloths they are going to where....But it all comes down to accountability and common sense....I know what is safe for my children...I would never put them in harms way....sometimes I feel so guilty that by smoking I might die younger then I should and leave them without a father...I lost mine to cancer when I was young and he never smoked a day in his life....
But too many decisions are made by the Government that should just be common sense...............But apparently People have seemed to loose all common sense....
I am so against drinking......I do not drink...I do not hang around others that do...But I will not walk near a bar and complain about it......like people that walk through a smoking section and complain....I do not think drinking should be banned......although studies show that there are more alcohol related deaths then deaths related to smoking.....So where is the Government here!
I know I am on a RANT again......but the smoking issue needs to stop....

Why, as far as I'm concerned, it can stop when all public spaces are NS and the ban is enforced.

Hitler wanted to ban a lot of things also.......Why stop at smoking?

Hitler tried to ban guns too and was largely successful. You've moved from discussing the topic to name calling. We can certainly work on banning anything that endangers a lot of innocent people unnecessarily but I can't think of anything else directly comparable and that includes drinking. However, this is a thread about smoking so you can avoid it or ignore anyone you want. My super soaker is ready, lock and load.

Let me start by saying you misunderstood my comment...I did not call you a name...I was refering to the people deciding on what states to make no public smoking the law..along with other things that are being baned....

I will repeat myself...I do not smoke anywhere inside..or around others...I always go to the dessie areas and even walk away from others in places where it seems to be OK to smoke...like the bus stops which all have ashtrays I never smoke there.

But to reply to the rest of your post...lets see whats comparable to second hand smoke......Carbon Monoxide from cars....so I guess we should not drive cars through the resort and when those buses pull up I and everyone else breaths in the exhaust so no more buses.....

Carcinogens from BBQ's also bad for you and others around you...so we can take those away....

I am just trying to say that smoking or non smoking...everyone needs to be considerate....I smoke but still have asked people to not smoke in front of my children if we are in an area that is not desicnated for smoking....or I move away if I can. Bashing Smokers, doing that fake cough or squirting them with Super Soakers is not the solution...

People just need to be considerate...which I find on a whole are not.....

I bring up the drinking for a lot of personal reasons......

but last time we were at OKW...there happened to be someone at the pool who seemed to have a little too much...He was very loud and obnoxios, cursing up a storm and splashing around in the pool..bumping into children.....
so should we have designated areas for that?

I asked him twice if he could keep it down....and showed him all the kids around...but he still kept going on.even got a little to loud with me..well 2 of his friends saw what was going on and took him away....before he accidently drowned....so to me I find drinking very offensive and possibly fatal to others if he decides to get in his car when he leaves the resort.
