Hi!! I just read about the Visa Debit Card that offers reward points... I went to the website to check if my bank is participating but its not :sad2:

For those of you who can take advantage of this awesome plan, could you let me know what bank you use?? I live in NE Ohio and the only major bank around is Chase. I don't mind changing banks if I could get this perk!

TIA

Wachovia.

It's a "debit" card, though, not a "debt" card. I use mine to try to not go into debt!

OMG!!!:lmao: I edited it... thats what I get for posting at 2am and talking finances with the hubby at the same time.

Thanks for the tip though! We don't have any Wachovia's here that i know of though...

WAMU, but I wouldn't consider it an awesome plan. Anything that motivates me to spend isn't a good thing.

Wells Fargo gives rewards points on their Visa debit too, but it's half of what their credit card is.

I have both USAA and Vystar Credit Union (florida), but they have a slim membership field. I earn points on both of those, and they are no fee.

National City offers a points program and it's decent. In May they had double point rewards, you even get points for online bill pay, automatic paycheck deposits and just about everything. Plus if you have a NC CC you can also earn points on that card too.
They are also all over NE Ohio as well, so this might benefit you.

I use Banknorth with free checking but not sure how far away they have branches.

We have National City banking and I'm not impressed at all with their points program :sad2: . I have about 50,000 points, been using my card for every little purchase for the last 7 months and the darn points are only worth around $100. Visa is making big bucks with the cc fees I'm getting charged and I don't feel I'm getting much out of it.

I have Citizens and they have the program. You have to elect "credit" instead of "debit" to get the points. Its 1 point for every dollar spent. They also have a deal going with some places that will give you more points per dollar. Dunkin Donuts, Linens & Things and Macy's are three that I know do it and I think its about 10 point for every dollar spent.

I use Wachovia and they have it. The rewards are pretty much nothing though- you have to have to spend about ten times as much on the debit card to get the equivalent rewards I get on my CC (I pay it off in full each month).

However, I guess it's better than nothing if you refuse to use credit cards.

Commerce Bank also participates. But as others have noted, the rewards are pretty slim. They give 1 rewards point for every $2 spent when you make a signed (not PIN) transaction. Looking at the the VISA Extras site, a $10 Target GC would cost 5500 points. That's $11K in spending for a lousy $10 reward!

I suppose that if I were someone who avoids using CC and makes a lot of debit purchases, it would be worthwhile. But with so many CCs that offer 1%-5% back, I'm not switching to using my debit card any time soon.

We use Wachovia and to get the points, you must use it as a credit card transaction (sign a slip instead of putting in your PIN#). They do have ways to earn bonus points (buying online through their links and by using it "x" amounts of times at restaurants or travel sites, depending on the promotion). I haven't redeemed any rewards yet because I was trying to use an envelope system and it cut down on my card usage. It's still an easy way to accumulate "free" stuff.

Mine is through Bank of America, it's an Alaskan Airlines debit card. I earn one mile for every $2 dollars I spend. Between DH and my self paying bills, getting groceries, or getting gas, we earn enough to get our tickets to Florida. I think Bank of America has other airlines as well, but I think they are regional.

I use Suntrust. Don't know if you have any of those up there. They have this program. It's actually not very good IMHO.

We use SunTrust as well. I didn't know they offered a reward program debit card. Could you tell me a little more about this? We've only been with them since we moved down here back in November.

Thanks for your help. :flower3:
