For those with A/C, what temperature?

When we first moved into this house (our first with central air ) I kept the temp at 68 all the time. Then I got the bill
Now I keep it at 71 all the time and turn my ceiling fan on at night. My DH freezes but I keep him warm

We don't have gas but our electric runs around $300 a month. We also have an inground pool so our electric includes that.

For those of you that keep it that cold what is your electric/gas bill a month? It must be expensive to keep it that cold. I am glad I can't take a real cold house.

My electric bill runs around 400.00 a month in the summer. I have gas heating and we rarely use it in the winter so my bill in the winter (electric) runs about 80.00 per month!!!!

70 for the AC in the summer. 66-68 for the heat in the winter.

I would absolutely freeze at most of your homes. I would be constantly wearing a sweater. We set our thermostat at 80 in the summer (night and day) and I still have to use a comforter to cover up with. This summer has been fantastic. I think we only have had 3 days the entire summer break triple digits.

A/C at 74 at the very lowest (day or night), we try to turn off at night and open windows when outside temperatures drop to 80. Then open all windows early in the morning to get house cool (if it is 75 or so outside). I try to leave A/C off until house temp reaches 78-80...usually not until afternoon.

We have lots of trees and good insulation...that helps.

Winter is a different story, the house never heats up...brrrrr...have to run the heater a lot. Probably up to around 68 in the winter (I can't remember)

Wow, most of you guys would freeze me out, too. We keep ours around 75-76. It is programmed (by DH) so shuts off when we are at work and kicks on around 5 pm. It is the same day and night, didn't know so many people turn theirs DOWN at night.

Also, one poster asked about not having A/C, well we are one of the few people in our neighborhood to have air, the temperature is very mild year round here. All summer it is usually 75-80. A few days a year it gets to 90 or so, but most folks go without air. And people do not think we are special because we have air, they think we are WIMPS for having to be cooled down when it heats up! And we do use ceiling fans and open windows, too.

Electric bill runs $150 in summer, $100 in winter.

I would FREEZE in some of your homes!!! Not to mention I can't imagine how you can afford to keep it so cold, we'd have to take on 3rd jobs to pay those bills.

We keep it about 78 when DH is home, I bump it to 80 or 81 when I'm home alone. I'm always cold. At night, we both sleep with it cold better, so we push it to 75 but it goes right back up in the morning. Can't afford anymore than that, esp since in the Texas heat that AC is working all the time to maintain that!

72, day and night for A/C season
Bill runs $200-225 for June/July/August for 3000sf house.

When winter comes, it's usually 68 or 69...depends on how high the gas rates are!!! Last year, due to the price spikes, our bills were $225-250 for December/January/February. OUCH!! Usually more in the $125-$175 range.

We got a new ultra-high efficiency central air unit 2 years ago. Compared to our old unit, our electric bills are about half what they were before and the house is cooled much more evenly. In addition to AC, we also have electric stove and oven as well as all the usual electricity hogs - fridge, freezer, laundry, TV, etc. Our bill last month during peak summer usage was $122, certainly not bad for this region.
