I know its apples to oranges, but I see some of these numbers and I just can't imagine. I know in reality we paid a ton more for our DVC points, but now that its paid for and we pay our dues - it just seems like such a deal!

660 points
$3120 per year in dues
4 AP's $1348 (2 adults, 2 children, DVC discount)
Dining Plan - optional as we want it
Drive - no airfare, but gas is usually $200 per trip
Typically 2-3 trips per year

This year (so far) we've booked:
BCV Studio for 11 nights (end of May-June)
Vero Beach 2 Ocean View Inn Rooms for 2 nighs - June
Kidani 1 Bedroom Savannah View - 7 nights - June
BLT 2 bedroom Std View - 3 nights - June

Total of 23 nights this summer and we have 50 points left over to use at somepoint. Granted that will basically be enough for a studio for just a few nights, but still not bad.

When you take out the initial investment- and I know that seems crazy - but at this point around $5068 is what we pay yearly (figuring 3 trips) now. Food or the Dining plan just varies, but is pretty flexible with DVC.

That doesn't seem too bad given the length of stays and accommodations we get. Our summer trip alone would be double that amount easy if we didn't have DVC.

Again I know its apples to oranges and our initial investment was substantial, but for our family and our Disney habits it has been an incredible value.

Mine's a little different:

Dates: 5/11-5/19, Two adults

WDW
Room: CR Garden View, 4 nights
Dining: DDP
Tickets: 4-day PH
Discounts: free QSDP (upgraded to DDP)
Total: $2555

DCL Dream, 4 night
Oceaview Room:$1492
Base Tips: $96

Airfare: $450
Car Rental: $150
Cat Sitter: $200
Trip Insurance: $100
Airport Parking: $54

Total of all: $5098
Various Disney Dollars, DCL & TA credits, Disney Gift Cards received as Gifts: $-750
Grand Total: $4348

This in no way is what the real grand total will be, as it does not include any WDW or DCL excursions, extra food, adult drinks, special dining on ship, photos, souvenirs. Much of that is up in the air b/c I can't be sure if they will be available when my booking date comes due. I estimate it could add as much as $1000 to that final total. It's our 10-year anniversary trip so we're going splurgier than normal.

I have to edit. Thanks to the D23 events going on our week of travel, we changed our ressie to a special group rate offered by a TA.

The $2555 for two adults at 4-night Contemporary, PH tickets and DDP is now $1482 for same room, PH tickets and no DDP. Taking the trip total listed above from $4348 down to $3275. Sweet :cool1:

5 nights/6 days
Arrival - Mothers Day!
CSR-water view
6 day MYWHoppers
Adults - 3
$1748 (received PIN - 35% off room)
JetBlue roundtrip Newark to MCO $556
****SCORE****:cool1:

I really appreciate you breaking this down like this. We go each year to disney. Only once have I been twice in a year. I have often felt like we should have already done DVC. You show a very good deal...but...since really I can't go more than once a year (usually) and then when I do it is only for a week (usually) I think my cost is still lower than your yearly dues/passes cost. Plus we didn't have the upfront cost. I can totally see how it would make sense if you went more than once in a year. (3 trips for that cost! heck of a deal) All in all...your breakdown makes me feel better about spending the money I do each year. Thanks! :thumbsup2
