How does CS compare to RnRC? The last few times that I went to California Adventure, I chickened out and didn't ride CS. I just got back from WDW, and I rode RnRC and loved it. I know I can handle the 0-60 start and going upside down, but I'm somewhat apprehensive about the drop. It just seems so high up! I love Splash Mountain, but that's the highest drop I've ever been on. Also, I'm worried that CS might be a bit scarier because it's out in the open rather than in the dark. I'd love to hear opinions from people who've been on both.

IMO if you can do Coaster- Screamin is easy-

Its only 0-40ish- Vs Coasters 0-60
Its also a Magnetic Launch vs Coasters LSM (Big old machine that launches you) which is a little less jarring and Coaster has 3 loops vs Screamins one

The drops are actually pretty similar (within feet if I recall right) neither one is a full drop both are rounded

I worked Coaster for almost a year and LOVE it- I also LOVE screamin and try to ride 5-6 times a trip :)

What I like about California Screamin' is that it is such a nice smooth ride. I really don't rate it too high for thrills (as in Magic Mountain & Ghostrider at Knotts), but it is just a FUN ride. I rode Rockin' Roller Coaster a few years ago, and that was a fun ride, but there were a lot more loops than California Screamin'.

If you did RnR, then at least try Screamin' - it's so much fun!

I agree w/previous posters...if you can do RnRC you can do CS...less loops on CS, smoother ride and launch is greatest one Disney has IMHO.

Go for it...you will love it!
FYI...CS was my neices first coaster ever last year and she LOVED it...we had to leave lunch at Ariels for her to ride it one more time (that's when her fast pass came up!).

The differences to me are that California Screamin lasts longer and has drops. RNRC doesn't really have big drops since it is indoors but it has more loops. Sreamin is much smoother. I typically get a headache from all that jolting on RNRC. I love them both but think that if you can do one you can defintely do the other. They are different but about equally intense in my opinion.

I've never done the RnRC but love SC. I like the way Maryjo put it...its just a fun coaster. I also have a problem with the high parts. I have learned to close my eyes while going up and only peak to see if we are close to the top and then scream like crazy on the way down. My DDs think I'm funny but who cares, I like the rest of the rollercoaster!!! And after riding it a few times it gets easier- buy the 8th time we all were pros at it! ::MinnieMo

I have done both, and while I love RnRC, I did not enjoy Screamin'. Those drops were just too much for me to handle. They do both offer a nice smooth ride though.

I love RnR, however if we ride it more than one time in a row, I start to get pretty queasy. Well, it took just one ride on CS....and I was running for the closest bathroom! We will try it again when we head out this summer....I just skip the Monte Cristo before hand! That alone was a shock to my body!

Regardless, they are both a kick in the pants, tons of fun!

A lot of people are saying CS is a lot smoother than RNRC. That may be true on an overall basis. But I've found CS (almost all coasters, actually) to be bumpier and more jarring the further back you are in the train. So as to not spoil a coaster try, ask to sit towards the front of the train.

California Screamin's launch isn't very intense. The ride is very smooth, though. It's not particularly thrilling, but it is fun to ride. I've rode near the back of Screamin' and it didn't feel bumpy.

I prefer RNRC - more loops less drops. Screamin' takes you up and down numerous times, and makes my stomach lurch! Both are very smooth, and my husband, niece, MIL and FIL liked Screamin' quite a lot - but I'll ride RNRC over and over - but would prefer not to ride Screamin' again! The first drop isn't the end of the world - it's over with quick - but there are quite a few other smaller drops that I loose my stomach on. It really depends on what you prefer!

I prefer RnRC to CS. Maybe it was because it was in the dark and I didn't know what was going on. I was very nervous about riding RnRC at first, but after I did I totally enjoyed it. I dont like CS and only ride it when the sweetpea is dying to ride. But I always feel icky after riding CS. I would at least give it one try though.

I have skipped R&RC my last two trips to WDW because the launch just takes too much "out of me". Screaming is just plain fun!

It is interesting to hear the differing opinions. I for one, rode RNRC only once and my head hurt so badly that I forwent the second time when the kids rode. I should also say that I am one who can ride most rollercoasters multiple times before getting that sick feeling. I am short and my ears were "boxed" on RNRC so I am sure that makes a difference. I think it is much more intense then CS. I can ride CS over and over again and love it each and every time. I think if you can do RNRC then you can do CS no problem.

Ridden them both, love them both! Give CS a try; I think you'll be impressed!

Just back from our first trip to DL/CA Adventure - we're WDW vets (and will never go anywhere else I might add). Anyway - about your question. I too am a chicken, but I regularly ride RnR because, like you said, it's in the dark and it doesn't scare me. I was apprehensive about riding Cal. Screamin' for the same reasons you are. Guess what - it wasn't bad. In fact, the takeoff isn't nearly as scary as RnR. it doesn't go as fast as quickly. It's longer. It is outside, but I surprisingly did fine. The views are nice, you can see the mountains in the distance. It's loads of fun.

I like RnR better - due to the theming but for a regular amusement park ride, CS is great.

I like both coasters. R&RC is intense in the dark and does not last as long, Screamin' is tall and VERY SMOOTH.
In comparing them both I love Screamin' more because I love being outside and to me the ride is more fun and not so intense. I could ride Screamin' 100 times! :cool1:
