Royal Street Seafood Jambalaya - A robust combination of king crab, jumbo gulf shrimp, mahi mahi, tasso ham, andouille sausage, and chicken, tossed with Cajun-style "dirty rice" $25.99

Portobello Mushroom and Couscous Maque Choux - Marinated in a balsamic vinaigrette, then broiled and served with roasted corn and bell-pepper couscous and sauteed spinach. $24.99

Which one would you recommend? I've eaten at the Blue Bayou a few times before, but have never what I just posted. I'll be dining there this summer and was hoping for some suggestions. Thanks! :goodvibes

Oh. My. Gosh.

That just sounds way to good. I'm at work and I'm drooling.

(yes I'm at work and on the disboards. :) )

My husband has had the jambalaya and actually did like it quite well with the exception that the shrimp and crab were quite sparse. I think it had 2 shrimp and one (small) crab leg. Flavor was very good though.

if u love spicy things...the jumbalaya...thats wat i had...and i dont like spicy things..but i loved it..i did however go through 4 lemonades however to kill the spicyness..but other than that it was soo good..i had plenty of shrimp and lobster... very good

 Hmm. I'm not really crazy about really spicy foods, but I LOVE seafood.

I read just the other day that they don't have the portobello on the menu anymore. :(

I know!

The person who wrote it might be wrong (but I generally trust people here to not fib), but I'm not getting my hopes up. We're vegetarian, so that was my only option other than dessert...grr. (though the same person mentioned some sort of pasta, but I'm not going to pay almost $30 for pasta, been there done that!)

Well I have the menu in my hand, and I just ate there last Saturday night, and they still have the portabello mushroom dinner available as you described it. Even the price is the same. So enjoy!!!! :woohoo:

I believe they "revamped" the portabello mushroom plate. It used to be served on a bed of mashed potatoes and now it's served with cous cous. I had it before it was revamped, and it was very flavorful -- tasted almost like steak. It was a huge portion and I couldn't finish it because the flavor became a bit overwhelming. Maybe they've toned it down a bit with the lighter cous cous? Glad you have a veggie option Bumber!

I'll tell you what -- much as I love the atmosphere of the Blue Bayou, it is TERRIBLE for vegetarians. I took my good friend who is veggie, and it was a really disappointing experience. He had the portobello mushroom plate, which I tasted. It was just okay.

There is not one vegetarian appetizer on the menu. The soup or salad included with your entree both contain meat. (Your only option is to order the salad and ask to have the bacon left off.)

We specifically asked if the mushroom entree was the only veggie option and they said yes. (Back about 15 years ago, when I was a vegetarian, I went to Blue Bayou and there were NO vegetarian options on the menu. When I asked, they made me a plate of terrible pasta primavera. Apparently that's not offered anymore, and I must say it's no great loss!)

Just a heads-up... don't expect much in terms of the food.

On the other hand, Blue Bayou is a "Louisiana" themed restaurant. Everything I have read suggests they serve dishes inspired by recipes that are several generations old...and virtually all feature ingredients that families could catch or hunt. Rural french peasant dishes.

Not saying it is right or not right....just that it is Louisiana inspired food.

(I do agree with VegasMike.....that Jambalaya sounds pretty darn good....& a good Jambalaya should bring a little heat. :) )

i have eaten the jambalaya and its the bomb....it was very spicy and made my nose run but i  spicy food so I was pleased...and they give you big portions unlike french market that gives you hardly anything...you get more bowl than food...:confused3

Oh yeah, I wasn't expecting much. :) Then again, i don't expect much from ANY restaurant! (though the best, most satisfying massmarket restaurant meal I can really remember was at a STEAK place for a friend's rehearsal dinner, when we ordered nearly all the sides and left happy and content, while everyone else left groaning about how much steak they had just eaten..)

Glad to know the post I read was incorrect about the portobello. And I like couscous! But I stil might just do the dessert thing, just to get the atmosphere. :)

I have a BB question, and didn't want to start a new thread. Does anyone know if you can reserve the seating they have by the water with priority dining?

I know for a fact (I even asked Disney dining this) you can NOT reserve a waterside table. You have to request when you actually go, which will make the wait longer.

If that's the case, and since someone posted in another thread that they found a long hair in their food at BB I'm thinking that BB is out for us. :scared:

Well, this used to be my favorite place to eat in Disneyland. My parents, my fiance , my nieces and myself went June 12 and ate there. Dad had the Jumbalaya- way too spicy and dry.
Mom had the blackened Salmon, it was wonderful comes with potato dish, very good. I and my fiance had the mahi mahi on a RAW plate of spinach with sour lemon juice and 2 TINY prawns. The fish was dry, and the "sauce" made the spinach almost inedible. The prawns were good. One of my nieces had macaroni and cheese, she liked it. My other neice had a monte cristo pb and j sandwich , it was tiny. like the size of a pack of cards- 2 peices. the kids dishes came with grapes and 2 carrot slices and 2 celery slices and ranch dressing. The rolls were very bland. The ice tea was alright. The pre- dinner salads were a bummer , it was some sliced up sausage? a slice of avocado, the same wierd sour dressing and a small half of a lettuce head you had to cut up yourself on a tomato slice with some blue cheese (not the dressing, just the cheese) on the plate with vinegar and oil?. So, I would say, if you are going to go, dont be surprised to pay an arm and a leg for a very below par meal. I guess our bill came to about 150-.What a bummer. I will say this, the service was EXCELLENT. Such a disappointment though. If anyone has the magic # to the powers that be for disney, let me know. I would really like to mention my experience to a manager. I dont even think their chefs taste their food. If they did, they couldnt send it out. but the trip to the park was wonderful and the hot dogs we had about an hour later on main street were freekin wonderful!!:rotfl:
