How long do you wait for a seller to pay you before contacting them again?

I used to do a lot of selling on ebay and never had a problem with a buyer. I recently put up a few items and the winner of one auction hasn't paid me yet. They won the auction 3 days ago, I sent an invoice once the auction ended and I haven't heard anything from them at all.

The winner of the auction has a lot of feedback (well over 1000), and it's all positive as both a seller and a buyer so I'm thinking it may just be an oversight on their part. On the other hand, I don't want to send a message and 'harass' them in any way.

How much longer would you wait?

I'm a regular seller on eBay. I open a case for non-payment as soon as I can. Once the case is open, the buyer still has like 3 days to pay. If they pay, the case closes automatically. If they don't, I get the final value fees back and I can relist.

I wouldn't send another invoice...I would just open the non-pay case.

Open the case as soon as you can. They pay, it auto closes. Because there is no punishment for non payments there are more nowadays. I went to fixed priced with immediate payment required because I was getting tired of non payers.

I have been a seller on Ebay for over 14 years and Ebay allows sellers to file for Non-paying bidder in 2 days now (used to be 4). You can file now. Do not look at Bidder feedback because that is not accurate at all because Sellers can not leave negative feedback for buyers anymore, so all buyers have 100% feedback. I don't think this is fair for sellers but what can we do. Ebay is not the only site I sell on, I really like Etsy.

Thanks for posting this. I've got an unpaid from a listing that ended Saturday night. I sent an invoice Sunday morning, and nothing so far.

Wow, that's really rude. I've bought on ebay many times, though never sold. Usually I'm so excited that I won it's a few hours at the most. You shouldn't have to beg. :sad2:

Agree!!!! I know that whenever I've won auctions on ebay, I've paid immediately (unless I wasn't home but even then, I would pay the moment I got home!) The only time I wait for an invoice is when I'm purchasing multiple items from the same seller so they can calculate the postage.

Everyone: Thanks for the great responses! I've opened a non-pay and now have to wait three MORE days to see if this person pays! :furious: ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think any future ebay sales I do will be like another poster said: Fixed price with immediate payment required! It only takes one to ruin it for all!

I have my seller account set up to automatically start a non paying bidder report after 4 days - 2 days to open Non Paying Bidder is even better though - I'll see if I can put that on auto. I mostly sell the kids' clothes and moms are pretty great about paying right away.
All of my problems have been selling other types of items. Each problem wastes at least a week of your time past the auction end date...for anything but kid clothes I'll list with the BIN/immediate payment for sure.

I never thought to sell my kids clothes. I usually give it to my great nephew or donate to Purple Heart. How do you decide how much to ask for an item?
Are these designer-name things? I'm a Kohls girl. ;)
I'm assuming it's worth the trouble to list and ship items or you wouldn't be doing it.

If you have a lot of stuff that's not designer brands, do a "lot" - a bunch of clothes in the same size selling as one parcel. I used to sell my kids clothes and it was easier to turn a profit 6-7 years ago than it is now.

I have my listings set up for automatic case filing after so many days. It seems to work

Im a seller on Ebay too- part time to help pay for our Honeymoon. I never really thought I would like selling on Ebay but we are paying for both wedding and honeymoon ourselves so after we get done working our full time jobs e come home and get into Ebay mode. lol. The biggest issue I have is having to wait around for buyers to pay. I file non payers 2 days after auction ends. Nothing burns me up more then someone who bids up my listing and never pays

I allow 4 days to pay then 4 days grace. After the 8th day eBay opens a case automatically. I set my unpaid case auto for 8 days after payment because I thought 4 days was too soon. If the person doesn't pay they make it to my block buyer list.

I've dressed my kids pretty much for free for 7 years this way! IME Gymboree and Mini Boden sell really high, even when they're trashed. I never buy those brands in store though - I buy super cheap on ebay in EUC, then resell them when the kids grow out of them, and almost always make more than I paid in the first place. It's incredible how much people will pay for a pair of faded shorts with a hole just because they have a Boden tag. :rotfl: <there should be a "laughing all the way to the bank" smilie!
For Target clothes (honestly way cuter than the high $ brands IMO) I give them to the nieces/nephews, donate, or occasionally sell on facebook swap groups.

How many "non-pays" does ebay allow a buyer? Since sellers can no longer leave negative feedback, there's no way to know if a buyer is a regular non-payer or not.

I just can't believe people would do this! They put bids in, out bid everyone else (I think there were 18 bids on my auction) and then don't pay.

Fixed-price listings from now on with immediate payment required. No more nonsense!

After 3 strikes they are suspended though it doesn't stop someone from opening a new account. There is a section in feedback where you can report someone to eBay. Not sure what the outcome is. I've learned to pick my battles and just let the bad stuff go. There are a lot of good honest people on eBay. Just open a non payment case and let it run it's course then relist and move on.

They give a Non-paying Buyer 3 strikes. File a non-paying bidder on buyer, if they don't pay, You can offer Second chance offer to next highest bidder. I usually contact the 2nd highest bidder and tell them that the highest bidder is not paying and that you filed and ask if they would be interested in buying if highest bidder doesn't pay. If the time has run out after filing non-paying bidder, you can go ahead and do a 2nd chance offer.
