It sounded like such a great book so I bought it for DS6s (almost 7) "Happy Summer, you made it through 1st grade" present but I am wondering now, is it really scary? I was planning on reading it with him chapter by chapter. He doesn't scare easily but I dont want him to have nightmares about pirates coming after him pirate: or for him to all of a sudden be afraid to go on the rides at WDW. :wizard: Thanks :)

I will be interested in this info as well - picking up my copy tonight and am planning on reading with DD8! She does not scare too easily, but I am curious as well. :sunny: Thanks! :thumbsup2

First, let me start by saying that I loved reading this book. So did my 12 year old and 10 year old.

I don't know your son...but my kids would have been scared at that age. It puts a whole new prespective on the Magic Kingdom, that's for sure. Does your son scare easy?

My daughter and I both read this book. DD was almost 10 at the time. The small world stuff creeped me out! We decided to have my other DD, who was almost 8 at that time, wait a little bit longer before reading the book.

I think there are a few things in there that may not be comprehended well by a young one. Reading it together will help but it is a pretty dark story.

I would suggest you read it first. I know I will never look at a small world doll the same way!

Okkkkkkk that settles that! I will read it first! I get chills just thinking about the small world dolls normally! YIKES!

Another vote for IASM part being a little too scary for an 8 yr. old. On the other hand, I think Peter and the Starcathers would be fine. I just finished that one and can't wait to get Peter and the Shadow Thieves when it comes out. Actualy, it makes more sense to read the Pan books first, since there is some pre-stuff in it.

This is a series of books???? OMG, had no idea. Guess I know what we'll be looking for the next time we're at the book store.

DD11 and DH have read the book and loved it. I haven't started it yet.

With what you said, is both Peter Pan books a prequil to the Kingdom Keepers or is just Peter and the Starcathers?

Peter and The Starcathers is the book of how Peter Pan came to be..well...Peter Pan. I haven't read the Shadow Thieves because it isn't out yet, but the teaser at the end of Starcatchers is that he flies to London for the first time to battle evil with his friend Molly who is a normal person. Not that Peter isn't normal, he just can fly and never gets older. But I won't spoil it and tell you how that happens ;) . It may or may not be a "real" prequel to Kingdom Keepers, but I think it is from the evil that is in both books.I'll have to re-read Kindom Keepers to be positive, but the wording seemed the same.

Ok, I just looked it up, not the same wording. "Others" in one book, "Overtakers" in another, sorry for the false alarm. But the Pan book is still awesome and I believe completely appropriate for an 8 yr. old. I'm sending Kingdom Keepers to my DNwho is laid up with a leg infection...hope my DB lets her read it

DD8 and I are just finishing up "Peter and the Starcatchers" we are REALLY enjoying it - glad to hear there is a sequel on the way!!!! :thumbsup2
