I really need help! I am wearing an ivory gown and DF is wearing a tan suit. What color shirt should DF wear? :confused3 We always just assumed he would wear white, but do you think that would look funny w/ an ivory gown? We searched a bit for men's ivory shirts, but they are difficult to find. Ok, I feel dumb for stressing out about something that seems so minor :rolleyes1 Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Couldn't he just wear a ivory shirt and tie? I think the tone on tone look is very classy. Or just have him try different colors with the suit and go with what he likes best.

actually its not that uncommon to use an ivory shirt...places like After-hours formal wears sells them...but if you want something different why not let his shirt match the bridesmaid dresses or your flowers and keep a white tie...also you could do a gray/sliver shirt...

good luck...and let us know what you decide

My DH and his best man had ivory shirts with their tuxes. I wore an ivory dress and loved it.

I think an ivory shirt would look great with a tan suit.

Thanks for your replies! I will look at After Hours and places like that for an ivory shirt. DF was going to wear a peach shirt to match the BMs, but we thought that might be too much peach!

We have been having the same deliberation. All our stores seem to only stock white wing collar shirts & I really want ivory. I've just bought 3 off ebay for £20 for the lot.

I'm wearing an ivory gown and my DF is wearing an ivory shirt. We also had a hard time finding an ivory shirt. He didn't like the one's from after hours so we went to a department store and bought one there. What's nice is when you're up close you can see a pattern in the thread, but from afar it looks like a plain ivory shirt. It's really nice and he can wear it again!

Good luck!

My gown was ivory. I don't remember if it was Randy Chapman or the bridal shop that said the grooms shirt should match your dress... ie white shirt for white gown or ivory shirt for ivory gown. IF you wear ivory and he wears white it will make your photos look off. Now the groom wears a colored shirt and your gown can be white or ivory. I believe it is the mix of the two colors that can make the balance of color off in the wedding photos.

I was in an ivory dress and hubby had a black tux with a white shirt and an ivory vest. We thought it looked great! But, I think if he wasn't wearing a tux, I would have gone with the ivory shirt with a regular suit and tie. Check out my signature ...

my gown is a color that's a little darker than ivory. They describe it as a light "honey" color. My fiance had a shirt made for him by a tailor that matches the color of my dress.

Cheeks- If you don't mind me asking, what dept store did you find your DF's shirt in? Or who makes it? Thanks for your help!

we saw this at the weekend and really love the colour and style, probably with an ivory wing collar shirt and maybe a chocolate coloured vest and cravat. The Lytham is the style we like, but the Cuba is actually more like this colour in real life (poor photo in my opinion that does not do it justice). My dress is ivory.

We found the shirt at Boyd's in Philadelphia. The designer of the shirt is Paul Smith. It was a little pricy but it looks fantastic! And considering what I spent on my dress, the shirt price doesn't compare! Hope you find something wonderful.

Thanks so much! I am going home to NJ in a couple weeks, and I will give that store a call.

Thanks everyone :) I appreciate all the help!

I wore an ivory dress, DH wore a charcoal grey suit with an ivory shirt and burgundy tie (our wedding colors were burgundy and ivory). I had to get 2 ivory shirts, one for DH and one for my daddy and I got one at Macy's for $35 and one at Men's Warehouse for less than $20. They are both nice shirts, and both guys have worn them since, so they've held up well to dry cleaning. So, just an FYI - you can find a great ivory colored men's shirt without spending a fortune.

I also wore an ivory gown. My dh wore a black suit with ivory shirt. We bought his and the best man their shirts at Macy's, it does have a slight pattern to it when up close, it's 100 % cotton, ( the only thing these two will wear) we got them on sale for 29.99. Bought their black tie with little pink squares at men's warehouse. they did have a very nice ivory shirt 100 % cotton no iron shirt for 50.00 almost the same thing as the one from macy's. All our guys looked so handsome.

and so did my son. They both wore ivory suits, shirts and shoes. However, their ties and vests were champagne to match the ladies: my daughter and I.

I think it looked lovely.... another vote for ivory.

P.S. We rented their suits from AfterHours Tuxedos

We have looked at both Macy's and Men's Warehouse. Apparently the fall is not the "season" for ivory colored shirts, if that makes any sense. So, since we still do have almost 8 months, we are going to put this task off a bit :rolleyes1 and hope there is a better selection early next year!

Thanks everyone for all your help :)

Yeah, you have some time. I'm trying to think, we must have gotten my daddy's shirt in early August and I'm sure we got DH's in late August or the beginning of September but in Florida we don't get as much "seasonal" clothing. They try to bring in sweaters and winter clothes but you can always find summery things too. I was just at a Van Heusen outlet store a couple weeks ago and saw ivory shirts, so they're out there, but you have time so take it and find the best shirt. I'm sure you will all look great :thumbsup2

I have the same problem with the ivory dress....everyone says he has to wear an ivory shirt...does that mean all the groomsmen have to wear ivory too????? the vests will be red for them. we were thinking platinum for the groom...is this not ok??? what goes well?????
