I sheepishly admit I made DH (against his will) throw a big toilet paper package and paper towel package in our Costco cart yesterday even though we don't desperately need.
Everyone seemed to have both in their carts and I got intimidated. Told DH I would sleep better at night knowing we had.
I think I'm losing it.
Well of course. Blood is good for the pipes. And Scott prides itself on drawing blood with every wipe. And that sandpaper feel means that it's scraping the insides of the toilet on the way down. Two different plumbers who came to our house (we do not have septic, just normal, with occasional problems - - the house not us. ha. ) made us promise we would never use any other toilet paper except SCOTT. He said NEVER. Especially Charmin. "Charmin keeps us in business".

Ack!! Charmin was the only TP we could order from Sam's for quite some time. They were out of their house brand. Now I'm worried! Two different plumbers who came to our house (we do not have septic, just normal, with occasional problems - - the house not us. ha. ) made us promise we would never use any other toilet paper except SCOTT. I heard the same thing that there’s a good chance of another shortage. I just bought a pack of toliet paper at Costco. It seems our area is starting another TP run. Neighbor said the Walmart is selling out again. People are getting nervous with talk of possible shutdowns and riots.
We had to stock up on toilet, Lysol, wipes and Sanitzer. My daughter was living away at college living on campus. We stocked up for our home and for her to take with her Incase we could see her. Plus I’m high risk so I made sure we stocked up Incase I couldn’t go shopping or to see her. She was living in a city where high and cases are still high. Her college closed and went virtual in March and will continue spring semester. I don’t work in the summer so no paycheck but we had everything we needed. I stocked up on the wipes too because we would wipe down groceries or anything we brought in. I went back to work in August and using sanitizer during work hours and wipes when I leave or eat lunch. Any Time we have to go to the store we use hand santier when we exit. Hubby happen to find a huge jug of Lysol. I told him just get it, if we run out of wipes we can spray Lysol on a paper towel and wipe down groceries and surfaces.Remember back when everyone was baking bread & you couldn’t find flour anywhere?
Well, my dear husband decided to order a 50 pound bag of pricey bread flour from some supplier on Amazon, so we’ve got TONS of bread flour left.
I’m a germaphobe, so I had a stash of Lysol, Clorox wipes, & hand sanitizer anyway. I have not yet run out of hand sanitizer - but I discovered, when you’re home, you don’t use hand sanitizer. I did end up running out of Lysol & wipes due to all the sanitizing of groceries & deliveries.
We went to Costco last night because I heard the pallet with the Dowdle puzzles was back. Entering the store, we saw the white board of “Things we are sold out of” was back. TP, paper towels, Clorox wipes, and 1 or 2 more things. We go back on Monday for our flu shot appointment. I will be curious to see how long the list is then, because things were starting to look much thinner in the food cases and food aisles. It seems our area is starting another TP run. we went to Sam’s and Costco looking for their store brand chicken wings and both were out. It was just a weird vibe. People were rushing, people in a hurry not paying attention. I don’t my husband that I felt a weird vibe and it was making me anxious. I want my frozen plain uncooked wings! Lol! Next time I go I’m going to check for the list of out of stock itemsWe went to Costco last night because I heard the pallet with the Dowdle puzzles was back. I have not kept up too well with this thread, so not sure if that was mentioned already.same. I restocked over the summer, now just starting to use my freezer/pantry supplies and supplementing as I go along as needed. Prob the only thing I buy 'extra' of weekly is a pack of TP. I don't use premade wipes, and a 12 pack of paper towels will last a year in my house. Food? that's what we use/replenish/use.We rotate it and replenish as we go. That way we get everything eaten and nothing goes bad and we keep our stocks if we need them.
I'm pretty much like this on an everyday basis too...I tend to always have about a 2 month stock of most stuff at all times...using and replenishing as necessary. I attribute it to the way I grew up,in the country, use every little thing, stock up well b/c you don't know when you're going to the store for a while etc. For me a 'pandemic stockup' extends that to about 3 (maybe 4 tops) months where I know I could avoid the store 100% if I HAD to..... I know if I stock our basics, the rest will be ok.We have a large (likely 3+ month) rotating supply of all non-perishable items on hand all of the time--winter, spring, summer, fall, even during non-pandemic times. Our supplies actually dipped a bit when corona hit as we stayed home more and made less frequent grocery trips. Most of our supplies (there are a few things we are out of, like Clorox Anywhere Spray, that have never shown up back in the stores yet) are back at normal levels again. However, one of my tasks next week, given that it is the beginning of November, is to inventory what we have on hand and decide what supplies need to be beefed up a bit. Winter is coming, which is when I usually stock up a little extra because the weather can sometimes mess with supply trips. The holiday season this year is going to be another issue.
I was discussing with my family last night, how I want them to let me know if there is anything they need me to pick up now (anything from pickles to new underwear), as I will be dramatically reducing my trips to the store soon. We shop about once every two weeks and have done so throughout the pandemic. We sometimes make a quick trip out for fresh items like produce if needed. I know that right before Thanksgiving, the stores will likely be busier than usual, so if possible, I would like to avoid that this year. I also would like to try to avoid the stores for the two weeks following Thanksgiving if I can, just because I feel like if there is going to be a super-spreader event for the whole country, Thanksgiving is going to be it. I haven't frozen milk for later use since the pandemic first started, but I will be instituting that again for the short term, just to limit our store visits. I am fortunate enough to have a cool (not cold) storage room, where things like potatoes, onions, squash, and apples seem to fare well for 2+ weeks. We should be in good shape, for the most part. Meals may get a little repetitive or uninspired, but we shouldn't go hungry.
Scott TP is awesome.
At one point in April, when we were down to no actual toilet paper in the house, the store was empty except for a big package of Scott's. I bought it. It is now November and I think a third of that package is still left because everybody protested.
that's why it's the best to keep in storage for emergency use
So, ignoring the fact that I was being a jerk earlier in this thread (besides to say, yes, I'm sorry), due to an extensive explanation regarding my crowd anxiety and shopping...

We have a package of Scott - 12 pack I think- that has two rolls missing. I've been moving it around the house until I finally stuck it under the sink in the spare bathroom upstairs. NO ONE wants any part of it, yet I'm loath to toss it just in case!
God help us if we are so desperate that we've got to use the leftover Scott, it means things have gotten very bad!
hahaha Scott..... it's a love/hate relationship with cheapness yet it lasts forever..... if the tp is too nice it disappears too fast....that's why it's the best to keep in storage for emergency use
