Were getting ready to go on our yearly camping trip(not Disney). I was wondering for those of you who take your dogs, do you leave them in you trailer when you leave your site for whateve reason...swimming, site seeing, etc. We have a small Shih-Tzu, who sleeps all the time. My DH said he would be fine if we left him in there. If we had to go somewhere he couldn't. We have air/heat and a TV/stereo for noise. He went last year and was a good boy, but I never left him. You know he's like my baby!! I was just wondering what everyone else has done.

I know last year I went by a popup camper who had a large dog, and the poor thing was inside barking his head off all day. I felt so bad for him. That I would never do!

I guess it just depends on the dog. As long as you have air conditioning, and he's not the kind of dog to bark all day, you should be fine!

My baby Gunnar, the dog part of my user name campingcorgi, has been to FW 5 times and on a couple of other camping trips. He is quiet during the day when left alone. We just make sure that he is exercised before we go and he will snooze the day away. He does get a little anxious if we aren't back by dark, though, so we try to schedule our day so someone is back by dark. Otherwise he is just a 'happy camper'!

Our cocker spaniel and bichon have been to FW at least 6 times now, and we have never had a problem. We used to have a travel trailer .... now a fifth wheel, but they have always had no problem being left alone during the day. They get more walks at FW than when they are home, so they seem happy to see us leave for the parks so they can get their much needed rest. The only accomodation that we have had to make is ....... we take the dinette table down EVERY time we leave the RV, as the little darlins' do not seem to recognize it as a table, but merely another place to lay!

We take our collie with us everytime we camp which is on reason we got the TT. She can go everywhere with us. We have A/C as well. When we were at WDW last Oct, we had no problem. She wouldn't bark unless someone she didn't know would come up to the camper, I would think. She goes to the beach with us as well and stays in the A/C. If your dog barks a lot, that might create a problem for your neighbors, but during the day most people are out and about anyway. I was more concerned the electric would go out and she wouldn't have A/C. That normally isn't going to happen unless it's storming and you'll know that ;)

I really appreciate the replys! That's why we got our TT, well one...my DH wanted onr since we got our first popup and two...Murphy could go with us! He doesn't bark to much, he's usually sleeping!;) The only way I could forsee him barking is if we weren't there and someone knocked on the TT. Which he occassionally barks when someone comes to the door at home. (If he wants to wake up!) Plus we have my DH's family going which consist of 7 bros & sis. So there will be 8 families there. Chances are if we had to leave him, someone could keep an eye on the TT for us.

Thanks again.
Bianca...LOL!! I could see you babies sleeping on the table!! Murphy thinks my endtable is his personal seat to look outside!! Doesn't even care if I'm home now...he just jumps up!!
TinkerbellRules...That's cool your collie likes the beach!! I could see Murphy picking up his paws like...."ok what's this junk between my paws!!!" Then wanting on my lap to get away from it!!

Did I mention he's VERY spoiled!!;) He'd rather sleep anyway!!!;)

Wendy: Unfortunately, Annie couldn't "go" to the beach. I should rephrase that. She's gone on beach trips, but not the beach. She did walk in some sandy at the campground, but dogs aren't allowed on the beach unless they have some type of special permit (panhandle area). But, I'm sure she'd love it. Today, my DD and I went to play tennis. We had Annie retrieving the balls when they went out of the court so we didn't have to. She's such a sweetie!

We leave our dog in his crate in our pop-up without any problems. He's used to being crated, so he goes straight to sleep. At first I was concerned that the sound of people walking by outside the camper would make him bark, but he's okay as long as we leave the AC on to make some white noise.

Thanks again for the replys!!:D We leave in the morning...Murphy's going with us!!! He loves to go Bye-Bye!!!;)

Hi,

I bought a travel trailer (dog house on wheels,) just for that reason....so, I could finally go to Disney and stay there with my four-legged child. I do miss my stays at the nicer resorts, but obviously I trade them all in for a stay with my pet. <BG> We only go twice a year now without him....hey I have to get my room service every now and then!LOL!
We have a 12 pound Boston Terrier who is 15 years old and he stays inside the trailer (house) by himself for a few hours a day. We didn't leave him alone at all at first, but then we started to leave him a little longer each time we went. We really don't go to the parks or anything, so the most we have ever left him is for about 2 1/2 hours. He seems fine and he also sleeps most of the time as well or looks out the window for us to return. Disney has a great area just for pet owners, but if your staying somewhere else I would just make sure they are aware you are bringing a pet...that way their can't be any compliants from the neighbors.

Hope this helps with your decision...
