For those flying with connecting flights

This will be my first time flying with kids and checked luggage..
I have a question ,, As silly as it sounds, I really do not know so I am asking you all

We are flying on Delta from
MCI ~ ATL then ATL ~ MCO
when we have our connecting flight in Atlanta, do we get our luggage from baggage claim and recheck it for the flight to MCO??
Or do they switch it to the connecting flight?

I do not want it to get lost or left behind so I am trying to figure all of this out before time..

How old are you kids? Be sure to bring gum to help with thier eardrums or if they are younger something like a bottle or sippy cup. Take smaller carryon or diaper bag that can fit under the seat in front of you so you can reach snacks or drinks easily. Getting in and out of the overheads is difficult.

The kids are 21 months and 6
I plan to bring a bunch of goodies for them and we are leaving at 7am so I hope they both fall back to sleep after we are up and flying
On our return we leave Late so hopefully I will get lucky and have them sleeping for at least half the trip.
I wish soooo bad that I could of gotten a non stop flight , but this was a last min. trip so we got we could get.
1 stop both ways.
I still worry about our luggage getting lost, I know I am being silly.. Hopefully that will be the last thing on my mind while going to WDW!

Some of the online booking sites are starting to book connecting flights with different airlines. I'm not so sure I'd count on my luggage making the connection in those cases.

I've flown from MCI twice now. It's a very easy airportto get around. The second time we flew out we stayed at a hotel close by and they took us to the airport. We spent the night the night before and I think for the hotel and the parking there is was like $70. It costs just a little more to park it at the hotel than it does to park it in satellite parking. With the airport parking we had to wait for a shuttle with our luggage at a certain spot. That might be a struggle if you are on your own.

With the hotel shuttle he dropped us off right by the entrance. We just had to cross the street. We checked our luggage outside (I had e-tickets) and we were ready to go. KC has a nice, small airport that is easy to get around. We also flew to Atlanta. I wouldn't hesitate to do it with my two children by myself.

And, my husband thought we had to carry our luggage to the airplane the first time he flew. Glad I was with him

If you want to know the name of the hotel we used, just let me know. And, BTW, they pick you up when you get home too and drop you off right by your vehicle. We didn't have to share the shuttle with anyone either.

Madi100~ Thanks so much. We live maybe 10 min form the airport, so we will just leave our van at the airport. It will be me, husband and 2 kids. I hope we can handle all of it..
I am more worried about ATL , husband says it is a huge airport..

yes, Atlanta is a huge airport, but you are gonna be just fine - its easy to get around and everything is well marked; there are lots of places to get snacks or just let the kids stretch their legs - you have hubby to help so you have everything going for you - please try not to stress - just think about how much fun is awaiting you!!! personally, when mine was young we preferred connections so he could get up and move - usually got back on and fell asleep!

I do agree that the kids getting a break will be nice so they can run around and use up some of thier energy.

Another Question:
I plan to bring our stroller and want to check it right at the gate. Will I get it off in ATL so I can push them in it then or will they take it with the luggage and I will not see it until MCO??
I would so much rather have it with me while at ATL.

If you gate check the stroller it will be there when you get off in Atlanta - they send/bring the items back up. Do you have to totally switch planes or is it just a stop over?

I'm sure somone will answer this with more clarity. We've never flown with a stroller, but I've seen people leave them at the front of the plane, and they are there waiting when the plane lands. The luggage is never seen (unless you see them put it under the planet through the window). It is just there in baggage claim when you land in your destination.

switching planes does not make any difference except you will go to another gate to board the next flight - the stroller will be right there when you land in Atlanta - during the approach to Atlanta the flight attendant will announce destinations and tell you what your next gate will be - the airport is very easy to navigate and chances are you will not even leave the concourse - your bags will meet up with you in Orlando and off you go on your magical journey - barring one of our famous Georgia ice storms you will have nothing to worry about except how many Mickey bars you've eaten!!!

the airport is very easy to navigate and chances are you will not even leave the concourse

While I agree that the airport is easy to navigate, Delta has flights on all 6 concourses -- A through E, and T (terminal). I always seems to have to switch concourses whenever I fly through Atlanta. But all you have to do is take an escalator (found in the middle of each concourse) down to the train, and take the train to your next concourse.

If you happen to be flying on AirTran, all of their flights are on Concourse C, with the exception of their "JetConnect" regional jet flights, which are on Concourse D. But I don't think Kansas City or Orlando are JetConnect destinations.

I just wanted to say Thank you for the information about the Atlanta Airport. We have a connecting flight there also. I was/am stressing about making our connecting flight on time (39 minutes..eek).
