For thoes who don't have carpet

We have tile everywhere, but I would only recommend it if you live in a warmer environment, as it tends to have a cooling effect.

You understated that. It's downright frigid! Also wanted to add that it makes your feet hurt being on solid ceramic all day.

We have hardwood (oak) through out most of the house and I love it. Our kids have asthma and I have noticed a HUGE difference in them since we put in the wood.

Our Whole house has hardwood floors!!
And I can't stand it I need to buy som area rugs!
Hardwood floors collect alot of dust!!!
I sweep at least 3 times a day! :yay: well hey at least I am getting some excrsize! LOL

Hardwood floors don't any more dust than carpet, but with carpet the dust settles into the fibers and is impossible to completely remove. I would take hardwood floors that I can tell need to be vacuumed any day over carpet that collects dust and dirt.

We had an off-white area rug over our hardwood floor in the LR and I ended up throwing it out because it got so nasty. Between the kids and DH, the rug got very dirty and was too large to throw in the washing machine and it was too expensive to send it out for cleaning.

When I had carpet, if there was a "wet mess", I would have to use the steam cleaner until the mess was no longer visible, which didn't mean that all of the mess was actually removed from the carpet fibers. With hardwood, some towels and/or a mop clean up all wet messes. It took about 5 minutes of mopping to get balsamic vinagrette dressing off my hardwood floor -- I don't want to even think about what it would have take to get that out of carpet!

After living our house with hardwood floor (tile in bathrooms/kitchen), I would not want to live in a house with carpet ever again. Honestly, I would buy a house and have the carpet ripped out and replaced with hardwood before we ever moved in.

:thumbsup2 we took up the carpet in the hallway and 2 bedrooms last winter, the living room already had hardwood floor. we got laminate at Sam's Club, it was the cheapest price in town, dh and I did it all very easy to install and keep clean. it really helped dd's asthma. in the kitchen we just put down real wood flooring....did it ourselves in about 6-8 hours. looks so nice..... :woohoo: you will be so happy with this type of flooring.....dh and I both said no carpet ever again.... :yay:

I love my hardwood floors. Only the den and the guest rooms have carpeting now, the kitchen and bathrooms are ceramic tile.

Thanks everyone. DH does want to go with laminate and since he is very handy he will install it him self.

I live in an old house, so there were hardwood floors under the carpeting. (Oak downstairs and heart of pine upstairs) The downstairs and most of the upstairs had been removed prior to our moving in;we ripped up the master bedroom carpeting and had the floor refinished.

The floors in the bathrooms, kitchen, and family room are all tile. I put my oriental rugs in storage because I kept having to have them cleaned (kids and cats) and it was adding up. Any rugs I have now can go in the washer.

No carpet in this house!Wood laminate in all rooms except kitchen, laundry and bathrooms, they are tile. I agree with all the others that stated you have to clean more often, but with allergies(dd) and pets carpet was not an option.
