My friend and I went on the Spiderman ride in September and had a blast. We were trying to describe it to friends last night and they asked if it was just a simulator ride similar to the Back to the Future ride.

I said "no, you ride all through the place" and my friend said "yes, it was a simulator ride and we never moved from one spot other than swirling up, down, around, etc." once we were actually in the ride.

Now we are both confused. Does anyone know how it works?

thanks!

"3D Motion Simulator on a track" is what I tell people. It's very hard to explain.

As everyone knows, you get in a car and the car moves on a track. On the track your car, which never stops moving, encounters 3D simulation screens. The screens actually MOVE along with you, but it's nearly impossible to tell. That's how you get the effect of not moving at the screens.

Both of you are right, to a degree.

This is how it was explained to me. Basically, you are moving through the ride or building from one movie theatre, or screen to another. During the ride, your Scoop (name for the car) will stop at a movie screen and the scoop moves like a simulator ride with 3-D effects. When you are done at that screen you move on a track to another screen. While moving from screen to screen you go through some other 3-D manuvers that enhance the ride experience. I hope that makes sense. It is difficult to explain.

Please excuse the correction, but the cars do not stop once they leave the station, until they reach the end. At least they're not supposed to....

If the car stops on the track, that means the ride is having technical difficulties.

I would say it's more of a cross between MIB & Hanna-Barbera. It's on a track, you ride along that track sensors on the track tell the computer where you are so that when you get to a certain point the 3D film begins. Your vehicle stops along the way in front of the screens and when the action picks up you move.

I have some great pictures of the tracks and all that stuff.

Excuse my ignorance. The cars don't stop, but move rather slowly in front of the screens. The cars are always moving, or rotating for simulation purposes. Would that be a correct statement Earl?

thank you all for your responses :)

What about when you are plummeting down really fast towards the sidewalk? Are you really going fast straight down a track similiar to a roller coaster or this part of the whole movement with the screen and your car is just turn downward to??

Now you all have me more curious :)

thanks again, Marley

The "Falling" feeling is done by your car tilting downward and the motion of the movie and all areas. The track itself is fairly flat.

Ok it appears that you do, when you first meet spiderman it seems that way, and when you fight the water guy it seems you do. I guess you creep by very slowly. The rest you move by them quickly.

What is happening is a combination of effects:

1) The wall in front of the car drops down.
2) The video of windows flying by on the sides is meant to give a sense of rising
3) The car tilts forward 11 inches as the image zooms in towards you.

I did spiderman on the 31 and we had a breakdown. They had none of the screens working exept for the first room. You don't slow down at all through the different rooms. What you think is farely rough moves as the movie is running is farely smooth bumps and jerks.

I disagree, but I'll be on it again today so I'll have to pay closer attention, to me it appears to really slow down at the 1st film, The fight with that water guy, and during the flight and end. That vechile is on a lift system very close to that of the BTTF Ride so it can jerk you around even being stopped.

I'll pay closer attention to it today.

With a 120-Minute wait I didn't want to go on and with single rider, lined up outside I didn't go on.

Today there were 30k in the park. Yeah, I know. Nobody was expecting that many people. The park's hours have also been extended till 8pm until Saturday. After Sat, they go back to normal (9-7).

Was that all, I was shocked when the parking tickect booth was lined up to Universal Blvd at 1pm. Then the rest of the day was like a battlefield to get around.

I just seen the Grinchmas Whobilation Show, I walked around the park then left and went to Universal and walked around and got my seat for the Macy's Parade, watched that and left.

That's for SURE!

While we didn't go to USF/IOA yesterday, we did head over to Downtown Disney and Disney Quest and there were tons of people there!

Last year, we went to IOA on the 2nd (after spending NYE there) and we were AMAZED at what a "ghost town" it was! It was like it was a totally different place. I remember thinking, "where did everyone GO so quickly!"

I guess they decided to stick around this year!

We're going to see the parade and Grinchmas on Sunday finally, for it's last day, and we're hoping it will be fairly quiet over there by then! :)

please tell me it wont be overly crowded on Saturday & Sunday at USF & IOA. We are trying to squeeze in Grinchmas & the Macys parade before they are gone. I really dont want que times of 1+ hours at IOA....
