For pet owners: new generic Frontline

We used Frontline but it doesn't work on our dogs anymore.....it worked until we moved to our new neighborhood and these fleas are some sort of alien hybrid LOL We switched to one of the others....Revolution I believe? Anyhow, we ended up using Comfortis and it worked wonders. Then my vet stopped selling it so we tried Frontline again.....didn't work. So I paid 90.00 for a box of 6 Acuguard pills (same active ingredient as Comfortis) and it worked for less than a week!!!! The fleas died within the first hour or so after we gave them their pill, which was on the 5th....by the 10th they were covered in fleas again and none of them are dying :(

I really don't know what to switch to next.

does anything actually repel ticks? we live near woods, and I can't keep them off the pets..... it's gross!the cats are the worst, but even the dog gets them like crazy,it is GROSS to wake up at night with a tick crawling on you!
frontline didn't do much for ticks,ever,IMO....

We use Promeris and it repels fleas and ticks. We found attached ticks in two occasions with k9 advantix. Also the only tick collars that the vet sells are Preventic but I do not think it works for cats.

I buy my Frontline from this place. This guy works for a vet. I found mine on Amazon one day and started ordering from his site directly. Its so cheap because they are selling the "vet" packs. And it comes in a sealed frontline green tube.

If you use code save7 you save 7% so its even cheaper.

Not a reliable page. I would never order this type of product from Amazon or ebay or pages like that. Since most of those cases are the medications form overseas.

Ask your doctor about promeris this is the only thing that had work for us and we been using for years. Fleas develop immunity to this products and I found that frontline is one that works the least because it has been in the market for so long. K9 advantix might work in your area it keep the fleas of our dogs but no the ticks. Good luck!

We do not use top spot treatments. I do not like using chemicals. I have Lyme disease and my DR told me about Olivus olive leaf extract capsules. I took them for some viruses that I could not get rid of. In researching it they have it also in powder form to give to your animals. I give all my dogs some of this powder every morning. We have not had one flea or tick problem since using this stuff over a year ago. I highly recommend it if you are leery about exposure to chemicals and such. :thumbsup2

Frontline has always worked for us.

We tried Pet Armor after seeing the commercials. For us, it did not work and was a total waste of money.

Fleas and ticks are always a big problem in our climate, and we have to use prevention year-round. Fleas can take over *real* fast in this heat. I've been using Pet Armor on my dog since it came out, and so far it has worked as good as anything more expensive that I've used before. And luckily, she has never had a reaction to any of these sorts of meds. So as long as I can find it, I'll keep using it!

I ordered from them before. its 100% legit. Its the same stuff I was buying but its much cheaper from them. The person selling them is a vet tech.

For those of you who like Promeris, it has been discontinued by Pfizer. Not recalled, so it is still available until what is out there is gone.

It always works that way for me. Make up/cleaning products, etc. that I like, taken off the market.

In San Diego where dogs are in the ocean and bathed all the time, the topical flea products...all lumped together, Revolution/Frontline/advantage/ etc. do not seem to last the entire month, so have to be applied every 2.5 to 3 weeks. Comfortis is used a lot more as a result. Fleas are a giant problem, ticks minor,

And just a clarification: Pet Armor Plus has been recalled because of patent infringement issues, not because of any safety or efficacy reasons.

Oh no! It was?! I've been using it on my cats since May and they need more the end of this month! Drat!!! Well, anyway, Pet Armor worked for us these brief months.

I still see it on Walmart's web site as available in my store. :confused3

I have no idea what the real truth is... From searching recent news, it sounds like it's only the PetArmor Plus that has the patent issue. Here's info on the lawsuit:
http://www.petproductnews.com/headl...ars-sale-of-petarmor-plus-in-merial-case.aspx

But then, this is on the PetArmor website:

PetArmor and PetArmor Plus: Safe and for Sale

We want to assure pet owners that PetArmor and PetArmor Plus are safe to use on their pets and are still available for sale. Rumors that the product is currently being recalled are false. Recently, some customers could not purchase PetArmor products at Walmart and Sam's Clubs, and we apologize for any inconvenience this misunderstanding may have caused. We have worked with these retailers and believe that issue has now been resolved. Pet owners can continue to use PetArmor and PetArmor Plus to provide their pets with safe, effective protection from disease-carrying fleas and ticks, helping to keep pets healthy year-round.

So, who knows? :confused3 Maybe they're trying to sell as much as they can before the suit goes further? All I know is, it works for my dog, and Frontline costs too much. :(

I used the Pet Armor on both my puppy and cat a couple weeks ago. It worked well and they had no side effects. It seemed just like Frontline.

I got it at my local Walmart.

We use Frontline on both our cats and dogs and it does a good job. One time we tried a brand that was supposed to be all natural and our cats did not do well with it. The vet told us that that is often the case with "natural" products. Anyway, we buy the largest dog Frontline applicators and then use a syringe to dispense the correct amount to the cats. It lasts forever that way and saves a lot of money. HTH...

I ordered from them before. its 100% legit. Its the same stuff I was buying but its much cheaper from them. The person selling them is a vet tech.

Just because someone online says its a vet tech does not mean anything.
The products that are from other countries look legit too. Unless it was tested for the content I would not trust any of those pages. There is some many scams out there I would not put my dogs in danger to save a few bucks. There has been many cases were the pets were injured. Have you checked that they are EPA approved I did not see anything of that mention in their website. Sites like amazon and ebay are full of fakes and non reliable pet pharmacies are too. I bet that if the website is reported to the EPA it will be close.

I'm a vet. I will just add some facts to the discussion, and let you all figure where and who to buy things from -- keep in mind that cheapest is not always safest.

The sale and manufacturing of Promeris has been discontinued by Pfizer Animal Health due to a strong correlation with the development of an autoimmune disease, pemphigus, in canines, as well as concern of its action as an MAO inhibitor with certain antidepressent drugs, such as fluoxetine.

As to the several mentions that "after I applied (fill-in-the-blank tick preventive), I've still seen ticks on my dog/cat" -- understand the following: the only product mentioned so far that is a true tick REPELLENT is the Preventic collar that is distributed with Revolution. This acts similarly to "mosquito repellent spray" that we spray on ourselves; it keeps the ticks away. The other products - Frontline, Advantix, etc., kill ticks when they come in contact with the pet. Therefore, you can and will find a tick here or there wandering around on your pet, but it won't attach and won't spread disease; it's in the process of wandering around in the midst of dying.

Thank you!!!! I'm a groomer and it's nice to hear some facts! I hope people learn from you and make the choices right for their pets!!

My understanding is that anything that works will only work for so long, until local flea populations build a resistance to it. We're still doing okay with Frontline here but in our old neighborhood we had several neighbors who switched because it had stopped working. I dread the day we'll have to switch because our dog has developed some allergies/sensitivities as she's gotten older (to the point of needing gluten free food and getting her baths with baby shampoo) and I know she tolerates Frontline well.

I have a dog with allergies as well and from all I have researched Dawn dish soap is the best soap to wash a dog with allergies with. Baby shampoo dries their skin.

Also many other companies have Fiproguard now which is supposed to be another new copy "front line".
