I have two girls, but every holiday I buy gifts for my cousin's three boys ages 12, 10 and 7. At Christmas time I ask them what they want, but not on Easter. I make my own Easter baskets and fill them with goodies. So far I've bought them a few gadget toys, but there was only a small supply. I'd like to get them something else. Nothing to expensive. So my question is, what small toys or gadgets do boys at that age like?:confused3

We have a family tradition that EVERYONE gets a squirt gun in their Easter basket. My Mom started it years ago. We've graduated to ridiculous super soakers. After our lovely Easter meal, we go into the yard and chase each other around with plastic guns filled with water. It's not for everyone but it's a good time :thumbsup2

I have two boys...11 and 9. Lego sets (Target has some small sets in the Easter section and in the regular section too). Michaels has some fun little wood-building craft kits. I put them in favor bags for a birthday party we just had...one was a little catapault and one was a helicopter. There was an airplane and a few other things. Those cheap balsa wood glider kits are always fun too. Other things for playing outside...balls, chalk...

Happy shopping!

balsa gliders or rubber band powered planes were a must when I was growing up.

I also used to get a magazine or a book, Goggles and waterballs for the upcoming swim season, etc.

I am not sure how inexpernsive you are going for:confused3

The squirt gun and balsa wood gliders mentioned above are great ideas.

The klutz seiries of books are very good and there are good ones for each age you mention. I nearly always put one in my son's basket.

Maybe a small Plamobil "special" set for the youngest (pirates, knights, motorcycle riders, etc are usualy available and a hit)

Small lego sets (the little racers in plastic boxes that run about $5-6 dollar especially) would probably still work for all of them (DS is 11 and he and his frioends still like them). They could have fun building and racing them together.

Books are always good if you have some idea of what they would like.

Silly putty, slime, silly string, etc.

If any of them wear jewely, a boy's necklace, etc can be nice and the wood bead ones are generally very cheap.

Card games (Blink, Moose in the House, Uno, Skipbo, Zues on the Lose, etc.)

Yo Yos (all ages), slinkys (maybe just the younger one), snake eggs (magnetic ovals which whirl around each other when tossed--good for all ages), etc.

Nerf style balls, darts, etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I know my next trip to Wal-Mart and Target will be easier.

Silly putty, slime, silly string, etc.

I prefer not to go over $15 each....:rolleyes:Belive me, I walked by the silly string knowing they would LOVE that, but my aunt would kill me....They're not raised by their parents, but that's another thread.:sad2:

But what if you bought silly string but told them they had to use it at your house. I did this for my best freinds kids (she hates messes) and let them go at it in my yard.

:sad2: The problem with that is that they live a 4 hour drive away. I see them once or twice a year.

I was also going to recommend a small Lego set. Star Wars Leo sets are really popular in my house for my 8 year old, and I am going to look into the Toy Story Lego sets for my soon to be 6 year old My boys also like card games or any type of small car (Matchbox).

My DS is 12 and he just loves the candy. I also picked him up a water gun for his basket, oh and Magic Tricks are a thrill at this age. Tannen's in NYC is a good spot to find relatively inexpensive selections and they are very good at finding age appropriate choices. My family, always fans, just got on a new magic kick after visiting the Magic shop in Downtown Disney last week. The stuff just came in the mail, card tricks are not too hard for those ages... maybe the 7 yr old but that age likes everything out there anyway.

Also, if your 10 & 12 yr old nephews have a video game system a blockbuster card in the amount of a rental or an extra controller might be a good choice.

I would go with the card games Get one uno, scrabble smack? (the new card game one) and another one. This way they have three new games they could play together. They are usually under $5 at target. Maybe a $5 gift card to a fast food resturant. Or if you know if they are into any trading games like bakugaun or pokemon you could get them some cards. When I worked at the daycare the older kids were still into that. I also like the squirt gun idea. I may have to use that myself.

my 7 year old is way into SillyBandz- (you can find them at Hallmarks and they go for about $5 a pack)

For the older 2 I agree magic tricks, For everyone maybe marbles, flashlights, frisbee!, Lego magnet guys(they pull apart like regular lego guys and you can buy just the guys!!)

Nerf guns were a HUGE hit for all ages at our family Christmas this past year. The 14 year olds down to the 3 year olds all had a blast with them.

My two boys 9 and 4 love the Shaped Rubber Bands, and Silly String....

The 12 yr old might enjoy a disc or itunes card.

It's springtime, what about a sportspack? Baseball, basketball, football, soccerball? We've got a lot of various ones but they always enjoy a new one.

Or if they play wiffleball. D!ck's has this thing called juiceball or something--can't remember the proper name. It's a black bat, skinnier than most (ours has a red plastic band on the barrel) and it comes with one ball, white with a red plastic strip on the center. The instructions show how to to give different pitches with it. The bat is reinforced, they love that. We usually have to replace the bats a few times a year, that one has lasted for about 2 or 3 years now. It eats regular wiffle balls though.

Also, my nephew got a really nice door backboard with a nerf basketball. He loves it.

ETA: Junk ball!! I knew it started with a "J."

I like this idea. I buy DS13 lots of these type of gifts when I need smaller gifts. It's always fun to have a new game to play. :thumbsup2

I think that sounds perfect as well. One thing to think about is that jsut about everyone already owns Uno.

Blink is a good game for the 7 year old (it's about $5 at Target) and still fun for the odler ones to play with him.
Just about anything by gamewright is fun too.

I LOVE the silly string idea.

That is a 1-and done type of thing.

I guess if you have to have a less messy idea - the nerf gun thingy's that someone else metnioned sound fun!
