Today the house in the movie "Nights in Rodanthe" was saved. I always loved seeing this house (it's name is Serendipity) when I vacationed in the Outer Banks. This house is probably the most famous beach house there, as it was the furthest north house on Hatteras Island, and the very first one you see when leaving Nags Head heading south. But due to severe erosion, the house pretty much was left standing surrounded by ocean (the dunes are long gone), waiting to fall in during the next big storm. The house was a very striking sight, seeing it surrounded by water, awaiting it's fate. The house was condemned and unsafe to be used. Just a matter of time until it fell.
But today the house was saved, thanks to new buyers who bought property about a mile south down the road, and paid to move the house to that new location. The house was moved by the same company who moved the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse away from the ocean. This morning the house took it's trip down the road, to it's new oceanside lot in Rodanthe. I read the new owners may decorate the house like in the movie, and get it back on the rental market this summer.

My family is vacationing in the Outer Banks this summer (first time in 10 years!) so I will definitely make the trip over to see Serendipity's new safer location. From the erosion photos, I didn't think the house could be saved, but alas it was!
