Beau Is not doing well. Hey has acute kidney failure, some cells of some type that belong in the kidneys have passed into his bladder and hes expelling them. He is mildly dehydrated and he had not eaten in over a week and was only drinking a little as he would throw it up. They said he threw up because his body wasnt filtering the toxins because of the kidney failure. His stomach lining was very inflamed and thats why he wouldnt eat. They are going to treat him with an aggressive fluid therapy and Zantacs for his stomach and some other medication to repair any ulcerations in his stomach from the inflammation. If he doesnt begin to respond they will stop the treatment as they are not going to prolong the inevitable and they will ask us for permission to put him down. That is so sad and breaks our hearts but we dont want him to suffer either and she said he would be suffering with that stomach and not being able to eat and drink. So in the long run, for his sake, that is what they would do.
I cant help but think that emergency vet did this to me. We took him to him as he wasnt eating and drinking and he had collapsed his back legs. He told us that Beau first of all was infested with fleas and that our house had to be infested. Beau did not have a flea on him and we had none in the house. We are always very careful with that. If we were infested wed have been seeing them, been bitten by them, etc. but neither happened. Also he said he had a disk problem / disk disease. So he gave him a shot for the fleas to kill the fleas (which he did not have) and a shot for pain, then he gave him a prescription for Rimadyl 25mg twice a day. They are anti inflammatory pills and he did start to act better and eat and drink some but I think now it may have been due to the pain shot not that medication. I think the medication is what inflamed his stomach as when I called our regular vet and asked about how to get him to eat or drink and told her about that medication she said thats pretty harsh and maybe his stomach is upset from it so try to get some Maalox or Mylanta in him. I did but he threw it up. Then yesterday after his exam she said his stomach was so inflamed that is probably why he was not eating. So my thought is that emergency vet giving him that Rimadyl is what caused the stomach problems, so he quit eating, then quit drinking as it hurt too much and made him throw up. Then I think the lack of fluids he was taking in caused his kidneys to begin to fail. I really think hes at fault and that Beau would not have gone downhill like this so fast had it not been for him. I feel whatever made him fall down the first time should have just been treated with the pain shot and make him comfortable until Monday when we could have taken him to our own vet and skipped that harsh medication.

Please say a little prayer that he'll respond. I talk to the doctor again today at 11 a.m. so I am praying hard she'll say he made some improvement. Last night they had to put him on a heating pad as his body temperature was dropping. So that brought it back up but I hope he can keep it up on his own.
