For Kerry Supporters Only

Good for you cranky! I gotta say, that argument is the one that gets me the most fired up. Bush was snorting coke in Texas, while Kerry was defending our country in Vietnam, acting under orders from his superiors, and somehow this is supposed to be a bad thing for Kerry and a good thing for Bush. And the fact that John Kerry came home and spoke out about the war, after having lived it, was used against him, sickens me. It really does. I know your telling your FIL off probably did not sink it, but good for you for making the attempt.

I just would like for the Bush voters to respect the idea behind this thread and please just leave us alone. It's nice to have a place to not have to hear the other side for a tiny little while. We've been hearing it for the last four years. I think the Kerry supporters should leave the Bush Supporters Only thread alone too. It's only fair.

::yes::

I have to admit my reasoning for telling him off was personal. My Father was in the Navy during Vietnam. He enlisted because his Father was in the navy, his grandfather was in the navy, and his great-grandfather was a whaler.

My Father might not have been tuneling or on the front lines, but he saw some horrific things that made him to this day refuse to talk about the war (except for coming home and leaves).
My FIL was an army medic in Korea that never left the US. How is what he did to serve his country more important than my father, John Kerry, or the thousands of others that served their country by enlisting in the navy?

Its not! And its especially a disservice coming from one veteran to the other. :(

well well well.....look what has happened while I was "away".

A week or so ago, I decided to ban myself. I simply did not like the anger I was feeling about some of the posts I was reading. I had already been spending less and less time online, and devoting the extra time volunteering for the DNC. So going "cold turkey" was not as difficult as you might think.

Then today I got PM and opened up the DIS. And once there, I was unable to resist the urge to just check out the community board. I was a good girl and avoided the Bush only thread, but I did open this one. I have not read it all yet, but have enjoyed what I did read. The whole thread has a "community" feel to it. And even the trolls did not bother me, since I have had most of them on ignore for a long time now.

So "HI" everyone. It is good to be back :-)

I think Kerry will win New York State in a landslide. There are many Kerry signs on the front lawns of my neighbors' homes (i.e. accountants, engineers, union people, etc.) but not one Bush sign.

I definitely think Kerry will win the popular vote in this country by a big margin.

What do you guys think?

BTW, saw Kerry's daughters on Larry King last night. What intelligent and nice young women!

It really does have a community feel to it, and has been my salvation the past week or so.

Welcome back faithinkarma. :)

Hi faithinkarma. :wave2:

What intelligent and nice young women!

...and sober. ;) (I know, it's a low blow, but I couldn't help it)

The Kerry daughters were amazing. What intelligent mature charming young women ! They handled all questions with grace and poise beyond their years. Their parents must be so proud of them !

welcome back, fik! i too am very glad for this thread. for a long time before we were "organized" i felt like i was almost alone on these boards. it's nice not to feel like that anymore. :)

 FIK. How are you?

I think the Kerry daughters are great. Very personable young women

Scary days indeed.

Someone should remind the Religious Right that since God chooses our presidents they don't need to vote. Its all predetermined anyway, right? :)

:rotfl:

Sorry, I'll go back to lurking now. But that one made me bust a gut!

I think I'll go to the Resorts Board and figure out where to stay for my next trip to Disney. Less stress there. :earsgirl:

Go Kerry!

I keep finding myself wondering why so many of my peers in the south and midwest are voting for Bush. :(

1. Do they really think that going into Iraq was the right thing to do? Or maybe they think it wasn't the right thing to do but just don't think the US should admit to a mistake?

2. Is it fiscal? Are they standing by Bush because they appreciated those $600 checks they got in the mail?

3. Or maybe they believe that God speaks through Bush? Or they just share the same religious values as Bush and think that politicians should use their religious beliefs in making decisions for the country?

I just don't get. :(

Morning everyone in this nice, supportive community! Don't know if others have seen this, so I wanted to share.

From THE SMOKING GUN:

While the Colombo crime family will not be formally endorsing a presidential candidate, two Mafia soldiers have weighed in with their wallets on the Bush v. Kerry match-up. Details at:

MAFIA SOLDIERS SUPPORT BUSH-CHENEY
Two felonious New York wiseguys among GOP ticket's donors

OCTOBER 25--While the Mafia is not in the habit of endorsing presidential candidates, two Colombo family soldiers have spoken with their bulging wallets--and they want four more years for the Bush/Cheney ticket. The below Federal Election Commission records show that convicted felons John Staluppi and John Rosatti last year each gave the GOP candidates $2000 (the maximum individual donation). The FBI has identified Staluppi and Rosatti--multimillionaires who own auto dealerships in New York and Florida--as members of the Colombo gang. Rosatti is pictured at right in an FBI surveillance photo taken at the wake of an organized crime figure. The two Bush supporters are prized Colombo family "earners" who helped finance an insurgent Colombo faction that once sought to dethrone imprisoned boss Carmine "The Snake" Persico (that bloody early-90s mob war left more than a dozen wiseguys dead). They later switched back to the Persico camp after a jailhouse heart-to-heart with their mob superior, one Dominick "Donny Shacks" Montemarano. The duo's role with the Colombo family has been discussed by several turncoat Colombo family members, including ex-captain Salvatore Miciotta, who spoke about Staluppi and Rosatti during 1993 FBI debriefings.....

Go to smokinggun.com websight for remaining 5 pages including excerpts from one FBI report detailing some of those Miciotta observations about his two former cronies.

FIL decided to relay his opinion of those who joined the Navy during Vietnam and how they were only marginally better than draft dodgers.

I had a headache and was all ready feeling punchy, so I gave him the chewing out that no woman has given him before.

Yikes! I'd like him to tell that to my mother. My father served two tours in Vietnam in the Navy. Maybe he'd piss her off enough to vote to Kerry. She's going to vote for Bush becuase Kerry protested against the Vietnam war. She also says some other insane things about his service record (like he was wounded on purpose), but I think it's all colored by his protests and Fox News.

Not to try to hijack the thread, but since your response was to a post that I was encouraged to make in this thread, I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to answer in the same thread.

For the record, I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh or any radio talking heads, other than a local drive time talk host who is quite the moderate. So, the statement is my own, no one else's, and I stand by it.

The current tax code stifles achievement, success and hard work by telling people that after a certain point, they are really working for only 2/3 of their pay, possibly less. They have 1/3 or more of their pay taken from their paycheck to pay for services that they don't need and won't use, all while the money is given to people that aren't trying or working as hard. And I'm not talking about people that need help in the short term - few of us, if any, don't know someone that has needed a helping hand at one time or another, and I'm all for that. What I'm not for is continuing to pay people to sit home and collect the federal paycheck. I'm not for sending checks out to people every April 15 that didn't pay a single penny in federal income tax. I'm not for telling people that they can live in free federal housing, take foodstamps for their groceries and welfare for their kids without lifting a finger to try to better their situation. That situation does indeed reward failure and punish success.

I'm sorry that you can't see that you don't own logic - the fact that someone disagrees with you and supports Bush doesn't mean that they are illogical or stupid. It simply means that not everyone shares your priorities or agrees that the federal government should be the nanny of those that choose to not better their lives.

Kerry will work for middle class America. Vote for him.
Bush has said it himself that rich people (like him) know how to dodge taxes. He apparently thinks it is funny.
You and I pay our fair share of taxes and then some and you and I and our kids and grandkids are destroying and rebuilding Iraq via taxes thanks to GW.
GW failed us, failed America and failed the world. FIRE HIM!
If you have made a fraction of the mistakes that Bush has he would have no problem firing you.

you say: That situation does indeed reward failure and punish success.
If you don't vote Kerry, this is essentially what you are doing.

Bush thinks alot of things are funny, especially the things that make other people suffer.

Well I'd say its a variety of reasons. One, its the "You're either for us or against us" thing. Democrats are commie radicals no better than terrorists. Anyone leaning slightly to the right is going to shy away from that association. In many people's mind, the questioning of the President is a threat.

THen there are the hard core people who advocate Church over State. Nothing can be said for these people, there is no amount of persuasion that would change their minds. These people are as scarey as the radical muslim.

Then there are the people who really believe in this "War on Terror" and see it as a means to an end. Misguided as I think they are, I respect the fact they truly believe the President has this country's best interests at heart.

This sums up the attitude of some of the people in my life. Unfortunately, some people believe that if you lean to the left, that automatically makes you a Michael Moore or Barbra Streisand.

Thanks for the post Snoopy. :)
