My Kerry signs have been destroyed, my car was egged recently. I've been told I'm going to hell for not supporting the "President who is annointed by God." I was told recently that my lesbian daughter and her partner will "roast on Satan's spit." I don't know ANYONE who rationally supports Mr. Bush, here the crazies seem to be everywhere. Blind "faith" in this administration seems to run rampant and I cannot begin to conceive of it.

I guess I'm lucky because I've not encountered these extreme and radical viewpoints from people I know. All of my Republican family and friends have been extremely respectful of my views. But if ANYONE said that about one of my family members, I think I'd be the closest to throwing a puch since I was 5 years old.

In fact, what makes me so sad it that I've only encountered these hateful types of remarks here on the DIS. One reason why I've started posting more on this thread instead of other political threads. Although I see that that has started to change as well in the last couple pages...oh well, I guess it was good while it lasted...

I think people vote for Bush because of things like this:

Cheney: “It’s absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on November 2nd, we make the right choice, because if we make the wrong choice then the danger is that we’ll get hit again,” Cheney said, “and we’ll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States.”

"Democrats," said Minnesota GOP Chairman Ron Ebensteiner, "are the party of hate, of anger. They are mean. They are part of the 'hate America' crowd. Their chief spokesman is Michael Moore."

And a whole article by Jim Dicus: Why on earth would the people vote for George Bush again? This Democrat's Theory
"Ok, I haven't ranted about politics in quite some time now. Why? Well, I've been totally disgusted with the election and the notion that this nation seems prepared to re-elect George Bush. So, I've given lots of thought to the question of "why on earth would the people of this land vote for this man again?" I have read lots of theories but I think I've figued this thing out. Now bear with me and I'll explain. There are four groups of people voting for Bush. First, the super rich have a reason to vote for Bush. If someone is a billionaire with no conscious then they should probably vote for Bush and I understand why this group would do such a thing. Second, the staunch anti-abortion believers are going to vote for Bush and even though I don't agree, I understand why this group would do such a thing. So far, I guess you can tell I don't have a problem with a republican who has a legitimate reason to be a republican. My problem comes with groups three and four. So, the third group is that group of people who will always vote republican because they are racist and vote for the all white party. Now mind you, they would never admit it and most of these are sitting on the front row of the all white Baptist Church each Sunday but I've seen these biggots my whole life and they make me sick. Most of them are middle to lower middle class, they depend on the social programs such as Medicare and Social Security implemented by Democrats, most believe in a woman's right to choose and the only reason on earth they could possibly be for Bush is that they are voting against black people and minorities, i.e. they are racist. The fourth is the group of people who are the true swing voters and what I'm going to define as the "Bubba Vote". You know, those idiots who say "I vote for the man" but they don't have a damn clue what that man stands for. This gets to my basic theory. Our politicans and the policies we live by are ultimately decided by these "Bubba Voters" that vote for whoever can speak their language and get down on their level. They don't have a clue what the issues are and they are to stupid to realize how these issues affect them most of all. This is why George Bush is ahead in the polls. He has that knack of communicating with the "Bubba Vote". Bill Clinton was extremely smart, from the south and and he had mastered the knack of communicating with Bubba. That's why he won re-election and why he survived the Monica scandal, much to the dismay of republicans. In the end, I think Bush will unfortunately win re-election because he has the skills to con Bubba right out of his Social Security check, Medicare Supplement, Welfare, Pension and basic way of life. In the end, we Democrats are probably going to realize that we have nominated a good, decent, deserving man in John Kerry but because he is from a northern state and does not have a clue how to talk to "Bubba" we are going to lose the fight. Yes, it will be disgraceful if this happens but we had better learn to think about these things when nominating candidates or we will continue to be on the outside looking in. I'm voting for John Kerry and I hope you will also. Let's just hope that "Bubba" forgets to vote."

What I find amazing about the posted commentary is the factual inaccuracies it contains. It is evidence that there are indeed demagogues on both sides.

I have heard over and over that "Bush is a man's man." I wonder if they know he was a cheerleader in prep school?

Sadly, I don't think the commentary is all that far off the mark.

I see examples of it every day.

The people you have described are disturbed. There's no other way to describe them. I am truly sorry that anyone has to endure that kind of behavior. But both sides have their nuts. Just because you're only exposed to one side doesn't mean the other doesn't exist.

Sorry for barging in but there was no lock on the door. Since I don't have a candidate I can fully support, I guess I could start a thread "For moderates only that really don't think much of either candidate", but by a quick glance at the posters on this thread and the Bush thread, I'd be pretty damned lonesome.

I won't let the door hit me in the you-know-where on my way out. Get someone to check that lock. There's all sorts of dangerous crazies out there.

Richard

Kerry supporters need to keep believing and get out the vote because it is there for Kerry. Most polls that show Bush ahead are within the margin of error. And these polls only include likely voters and they are not taking into account college students and newly registerred voters.

"College students say they are much more interested in politics this year, more likely to identify with a party and more likely to vote, a new Harvard University study shows.

And it appears a majority of those responding to the survey intend to vote for Sen. John Kerry.

About 52 percent of students say they would vote for Kerry today, compared with 39 percent for Bush. "

I don't think the commentary is far off the mark either, and like you, Peachgirl, I sadly see examples of it every day.

I saw Going Up River and the Frontline special. Don't need to see Stolen Honor.

You know why? Because I side with the Vets against the war. I respect that other don't agree with that group. But guess what? It's not going to change my vote.

I didn't watch either of those. How does it portray Kerry? The short version if you don't mind.

Arguing against the war is one thing. If you believe the war in VN was wrong and for the wrong reasons, that's ok. Your choice.

Do you believe that what Kerry stated in his Senate hearing in '71 was true? Do you believe he did what he admitted to doing as he stated in later interviews? If so, do these not have any significance? I'm looking for you to judge him, I'm just wondering if you believe that he was telling the truth in both cases.

But I would think that most people would have a problem with any lies or distortions and the effect those had on others. Do you disagree not agree?

I'm not trying to get you to change your vote. Both sides have been subjected to the truth, half truths and outright lies. But in all of that one must seek out the truth.

But what perplexes me is that rarely have I heard anyone that's for Kerry disagree with anything he's said or done. Even the main stream media has not shined much of a spotlight on anything Kerry has done or said in the last 35 years. I wonder why that is?

Conversely, Bush supporters have been critical of some of the things he's done. I know I have and have said so.

That is all. Respond if you care to.

Elwood, we have been over this before, start your own thread.

And FYI:
I have been critical of thinsg Clinton did. I wish John Kerry didn't mention Cheny's daughter. I wish he didn't have to kill people in the war.

Does thatmake you feel better?

With all his faults, he is still 100x's better than Bush.

You're in the wrong spot Elwood, slither back to whatever cesspool you've been spawning in.

You now currently occupy my number 1 spot on the ignore list.
