For Morelli, I always picture Bobby Cannavale.

I didn't know his name, but earlier today reading this thread I pictured this guy that I thought would be a good Morelli. I just looked up Bobby C. and that was the guy I thought of earlier.

Isn't Morelli a couple years older than Stephanie? And Ranger is a couple months older than her.

So the 3 of them will need to be at least somewhat close in age (or look like they are close in age). I always thought Stephanie was in her late 20's too.

I can totally see Sandra Bullock as Stephanie.
I just don't see Dwayne Johnson (the Rock) as Morelli or Ranger.

Currently, the characters on Ugly Betty(her sister and the sister's boyfriend) would be pretty good as Stephanie and Joe. She does a wonderful Jersey accent, is dark haired and he is dark and could be Italian. They are both early 30's and they have good chemistry. He could actually make a pretty good Ranger.

Eh? Katherine Heigl as Stephanie, no way! Not spunky enough. Reese would've been awesome! I agree with who said Jillian as Stephanie. Too bad she doesn't act.. I like Amy Adams for Stepanie.
Betty White as grandma yes! Vicki Lawrence would be awesome too.
Leland Chapman (Bounty Hunter) would be awesome as Ranger! Too bad Leland doesn't act. The Rock would be good too!

Who could...my choice?

I don't find your guy much like I picture Ranger. Do you REALLY? I see Ranger as being intellectually strong as well as physically strong but that guy's muscles would get in the way of any romance. Men who look like that spend a lot of time in the mirror looking at themselves. Ranger has only one outfit and spends his time looking at Stephanie - not himself. I like a little definition but that's way over the top.

I favor Sandra Bullock as Stephanie too & Betty White as Grandma Mazur. Read those 2 choices here on the dis boards & I think the choices are absolutely right!! No ideas for Ranger or Morelli though.

For sure I'm not fond of KH as Stephanie however. I'll wait to see the movie when it comes out on DVD & get it through NetFlix.

Stephanie- a young Kathy Mattea

Grandma Mazur- Estelle Getty(dead I know)

Ranger - a younger Steven Seagal

Okay, let's see what I can remember. Janet Evanovich originally wanted Sandra Bullock as Stephanie, but in the intervening X years, has now expressed preference toward Anne Hathaway.

Mo'nique is, I think, the actress who just won an award for Precious.

There are some great suggestions here, but many of the men are outside the intended age range (in response to someone - yes, Stephanie and Ranger are 28 or 29, and Joe graduated two years ahead of Stephanie). Also, while it's not AS important, Stephanie is 5'6", Ranger is half a head taller than her, and Joe is 6'2".

Many of the suggestions of Dwayne Johnson in the role of Ranger are due, at least in part, to skin tone. Ranger is Cuban with dark skin (that was a small issue with Mr. Plum in one of the books).

Someone asked about minor characters. They definitely need a Vinnie, and while this actor doesn't resemble him in appearance... what about Danny DeVito? Otherwise, Steve Buschemi? Mooner and Sally, it would depend on which book they're doing - I haven't quite figured out a Mooner yet - oh, wait, yes, but he's too old. Tommy Chong. Sally - either Brad Garrett or Michael Richards.

I was trying to look on IMDb.com for a perp I saw on "Law & Order: SVU" last season. He had the Ranger 'look' - but IMDb is, apparently, what keeps locking up my computer

Joe: Eddie Cibrian
Ranger: Dwayne Johnson*
Mrs. Plum: Vickie Lawrence (I know the poster who suggested her as Grandma meant in her Mama character, but she'd be a good mom and she's in the right age group.
Mr. Plum: could be played by any number of middle-aged character actors, although if I had to pick, I'd want either Harrison Ford or George Clooney
Lula: Sherri Shepherd
Connie: America Ferrara (yes, really)
Vinnie: Danny DeVito
Sally Sweet: Brad Garrett or Michael Richards - right height, hairy, and I could see either one of them in drag in a movie
