I just saw in my American Express account that I have an offer for a $30 rebate if I spend $150 at Undercover Tourist, which sells theme parks tickets at a discount. My husband's American Express SERVE account also has the same offer.

For people who are not familiar with these American Express offers, they are called AMEX Sync offers and appear in the accounts of selected American Express card holders. To get the rebate, one has to select an offer and enroll your American Express card in that offer. Once you are enrolled, if you make a minimum purchase from the featured merchant and use your enrolled American Express card, you will automatically get a rebate posted to your American Express account.

I thought this might be helpful to people buying tickets, especially for Universal or other small attractions.

I'm also hoping for some input. If I buy a discounted Disney ticket from Undercover Tourist, can I upgrade it to an annual pass? I know there used to be some special techniques involved -- you should use the ticket once before upgrading it, for example. Does anyone know if there's a current article on how to upgrade a Disney ticket to an annual pass?

Yes you can upgrade. You need to use the ticket at least once but not all the days. Then go to guest services to upgrade. Make sure they credit you the full amount not the discounted amount of the ticket (they err sometimes). Viola, annual pass.

Actually, according to a number of posters on the TPAS (including Robo), there's no need to use the ticket first. But it's a good idea to know how much you should be paying for the upgrade before you go to guest services. And if the amount that the CM quotes doesn't jive with your numbers, don't hesitate to walk away and try at another location. I had an AK guest services CM tell me that I was already getting a discount on my ticket, so I could not use it to renew my DVC Gold pass. I left and tried at the MK with success.

I did this with my last annual pass, this past November.

I did it at the International Gateway going into Epcot from BWV.

Did not use the ticket in advance - just stopped to ask the question since no one was in line. The CM did it on the spot.

What WDW requires is that a ticket be upgraded in the first 14 days. After 14 days of using your ticket you can't upgrade. So when you go to the window - that's day one once you pass in the ticket. People add in lots of stuff - 'use it once', or 'make sure you have a day left' but the qualifier is 14 days.

Right now it looks like the 6 day park hopper will give the most value - savings of $59 plus your $30 Amex rebate.
You are looking at what WDW says your ticket is worth when you give it to them.

waahh.... I used this offer last time they had it...this time, I got nothing....

I did not receive the offer either. However if you link your card to twitter and then tweet #AmexUCT the offer will be added to your card. More info oh how to do this can be found here.

silly question... once i link via twitter, does it appear on my card page?

Yes. After I got the tweet back from Amex (almost instantaneously), I logged into my online Amex account and saw it under offers "added to card". I also took it a step further by opening a separate twitter account for each authorized user's card so I could add it to those as well so now I have the offer on 4 cards :smooth:

Oh did not know you didn't have to use it once. That is very helpful!

I got the UCT tickets but 4 days get 3 free. Was wondering if I apply it to a gold AP, will I be credited fora 7 day hopper, or only the 4 day hopper?!

Thanks for this tip. Just did this successfully.

I'd still encourage people to to check out Touring Plans' Least Expensive Ticket Calculator. Even with the $30 rebate from Amex, some of the other vendors are a lower total cost.

Same question from me, as I plan to do the same thing.

What you have is a seven day park hopper. Check the back of your ticket - it should say 7 day park hopper on it.

Thanks to everyone who posted information here!

Ooo, good catch! Thanks! I might get a better credit with a 6-day hopper than with a 3-day non-hopper. My dilemma is that I have a bunch of Disney gift cards that I've been saving up towards the cost of annual passes. 6-day hoppers cost considerably more than the 3-day non-hoppers, and if I buy 6-day hoppers from Undercover Tourist, I won't be able to use up my Disney gift cards. (Yeah, I could buy souvenirs or sit-down dinners with the leftover Disney gift cards -- but that will ruin my budget!) I guess this is a "First World Problem!"

Also, based on what it says on Mouse Savers, Disney now rarely if ever gives full gate price when upgrading a ticket to an annual pass. Instead, it seems that Disney generally offers people the advance purchase price. Anyone try upgrading an advance purchase ticket to an annual pass?

.
I played around with the Ticket Calculator that you linked to, but the biggest difference I could find was a $9 savings per ticket versus Undercover Tourist's price. If you have the Amex Sync offer for Undercover Tourist available on multiple Amex cards, you could use a different Amex card for each ticket you buy. If you have only one Amex Sync offer, you could buy one ticket from Undercover Tourist and get the $30 rebate, and then buy other tickets from a different vendor, if the other vendor is cheaper. Of course, buying tickets from multiple vendors is more work, so it may or may not be worth it to you.

I often miss out on some of the best AMEX Sync offers, too. I'm guessing American Express tracked who used the Undercover Tourist offer last time. If you used it last time, they may not offer it again. I had the Undercover Tourist offer last time, but didn't have a chance to use it.

On the other hand, I've used AMEX Sync offers for 1-800-Flowers before, and I still get offers for 1-800-Flowers. However, a rebate for Undercover Tourist is way more valuable than a rebate for 1-800-Flowers. Buying from 1-800-Flowers is a lot like flying on Spirit Airlines -- it's often too much hassle no matter how cheap it is.

I think you're right...... last time I had the offer x4 and I used them all!

We had the offer last time. Used it for Kennedy Space Center tickets on 2 different cards. Got it again this time but have no use for it. I wish they sold Southern California attractions on their site.

Same here. I had the offer and used it last time. Checked the card this time and there it is again.

However, I have all the tickets I'm planning to buy stashed away. I bought 2 of the 7 day hoppers (4 plus 3 promo) right before the price increase at $419 each for my daughter and husband. That ticket is now $516.53 (from Disney) after the price increase. That was quite a savings! Not even sure when they will be using them yet.

Oh darn! Just bought my UT tickets a couple of weeks ago. Too bad I didn't see this offer sooner! Hope others can take advantage of the savings!

I got this offer too...right after I bought 5-day and 7-day tickets. Fortunately, I also got a $20 AMEX offer for UCT a few months ago and I was able to use it towards our rental car. I was able to get an intermediate SUV from Budget for 9 days for only $314 (before the credit) for our upcoming spring break trip to HHI. Had I gone through the Budget site directly, even with coupon and discount codes from mousesavers, the best price I could find was still over $400. In fact, it's over $500 now! If you have EVER purchased tickets from UCT, you can rent a car from them without buying tickets.
