For 2,000+ mile round-trip drivers only!

Having seen the "peanuts on a plane" thread, we thought we would ask what kinds of food do the veteran 2,000+ mile round-trip drivers (and passengers) bring with them on their journey to WDW.

Well, we're just approaching our first WDW drive, but here's our list, based on our other shorter road trips:

Mexican Coke, water, apple juice, bananas, peppermints, 70% dark chocolate bar, Baby Bel cheese, plantain chips, soft pretzel nubs from the Pretzel Factory with spicy mustard (in front seat for the drivers only), and cold pizza. We have two little ones (6 & 3), who also insist on a cheese and pepperoni cup from Wawa to share in the back seat. And, they always eat all the plantain chips before the drivers have a shot at them. ;)

This might be a dumb question but is Mexican Coke, Coke that is from Mexico or something else entirely?

For us, it's bagels in the a.m., several sandwiches throughout the day, all kinds of non-alcolohic beverages in our cooler (from Red Bull and ice tea to lemonade and water), and an assortment of snacks. popcorn::

there is a box behind the drivers seat that has everything from oreos to cheese balls in it. munchos, pop corn, slim jims, and pending on the time of year, tastycake tandy cakes!!:thumbsup2( we bring 99 percent of this stuff home with us.)

Yeah I need to know what Mexican Coke is too!

For us it's waters and juice boxes, pretzels, bananas, mini muffins and mini brownies. Pretty boring. I'm adding those babybel cheeses this trip.

We try different items each time - here's a list for the next trip -

hard boiled eggs, premade tuna and cracker kits, cheese sticks, crackers, individual bags of chips, bananas, grapes, individual M&Ms bags, water bottles and Capri Suns

I could be wrong, but I THINK Mexican Coke is Coke made with real sugar instead of corn syrup. I think...

I can buy it at our local super market in the Mexican section (by the taco supplies) and also at a local Mexican restaurant.

We love fluffernutters for the trip. We usually stop for lunch at one of those great reststops in North or South Carolina (two weeks ago we actually got to Georgia before lunch!) and pull out the peanut butter and fluff. Don't usually have it at home and we all enjoy it as an indulgence on our Disney trips!

How long do you stay at WDW if you drive there?

Next June we're thinking about going for at least 10 days so we may drive down instead of flying like we usually do. but I don't think I could do the drive back and forth if we were only staying there for a week.

Our drive is 2200 miles. We do an overnighter and it takes around 18 hrs. We arrive around noon and our room is usually ready.

Yes! Good old cane sugar! Yummy -- tastes like Coke did when I was a kid and actually liked it! ;) So, now, we get it for our car trips, and it is a real treat! (We don't drink soft drinks any other time).

We've driven twice. My husband is a pastor so we leave after church on Sunday, arrive Monday afternoon at our resort. We leave to come home Thursday of the following week, arriving home on Friday. So we are away for just about twelve days with two days being on the road and one partial (non-park) day on the property.

To tell you the truth, it isn't long enough. I would prefer to stay longer than we do.

We usually do 10-12 days. This past trip we wanted to conserve vacation time, so we did 7 days. Once we got the family used to the trip, we felt okay doing just one week.

The drive is very easy for us. We go about 10-11 hours the first day, then around 5 the second day. We have two drivers, lots of entertainment and just enough potty and snack breaks to keep everyone generally happy.

Your first couple of driving trips should be longer since you'll mentally want to justify it. Once you get comfortable with the drive, you can handle just being there a week if necessary.

My main advice is relax, know that it's going to take some time and enjoy the time with your family.

in the spring we leave home on a friday late morning, get there sat. and leave the following sat and drive straight thru.(7days at wdw) in the fall we leave home on a tuesday late morning and get there wed. we leave for home the following sat and drive straight thru. (10 days at wdw). got to put those aps to work!!:thumbsup2

wish I was near your gas station...it's still 3.09 here! ( Western 'burbs of Chicago)

2.33 is what its trading for. than add tax and tags and thats why you pay 3.09. we are around 2.90ish around here.(philly area) if you watch what its trading for, if the price drops, it will take about 2 weeks to drop at your pump. if it goes up, it will go up at your pump the next day. my guess, it will hang around 2.90-3.00 for the summer and drop back down in the fall. supply and demand and exxonmobil needs the money.:lmao:
